Well with Black Friday just around the corner I've been pondering about bying a new tv.
So I thought I'd ask you guys what tv's you have are you happy with them?
I've mainly had Samsung's in the past and been pretty happy with them. Good quality but maybe not the best possible picture quality.
Been thinking about a 43" (since that's the absolute max size that fits my tv corner) smart tv....mid price range.
Any suggestions?
-
Ha! Been thinking something similar, my current one is over 11 years old now (32" Sony Bravia). I'd prefer a named brand but some of the lesser known brands are good value and have good reviews.
-
Yeah the cheaper lesser known ones can be good too...but usually one thing is against them and that's the fact that they are pretty slow to start and can have very slow and sluggish menus and such...
Also a lot of those non name brands are actually the same tv with just different brands and slightly different looks.
-
I have a 32 inch Insignia 720p TV. It is the home brand for Best Buy and it is actually a great TV for the price I paid for it. Very nice picture with some very good color spectrum. It is about 7 or 8 years old now and I want a new one as well but I just do not have the room in my apartment for anything bigger.

I have several televisions that are all more than 10 years old. I have no plans to buy anything newer. Why? I stick with Samsung and Panasonic, and they last a long time. They are not the cheapest brands, but the cheaper ones use cheaper electronic parts, so they don't last as long.
Between the sets I own (2 Samsung and 2 Panasonic), I would give a slight edge to Samsung. The picture quality is close to equal, but both remote controls of the Panasonics have commonly used buttons that wore out and stopped working, like volume and channel up/down. Fortunately my Blu-ray player's remote had extra buttons for those TV controls, so I can use that one for those functions.

You guys got good old tv's I see... My bigger Samsung is about 5 years old and my smaller one is touching 10 years now. Both still work fine.
But I do want a proper smart tv because I'd like to get Amazon Prime so I can watch The Grand Tour...and that's something I can't have with my current one.
There are two brands that might be the ones to choose from LG and Samsung.
Panasonic has gotten some great reviews here for picture quality. But they mainly have bigger models nowadays. Philips is another possibility but some say that it too suffers from being bit slow and sluggish on the menus and streaming.
Normal tv functions are probably about the same regardless of the brand but the streaming speed seems to vary quite a bit from what I've read.
And yeah I think Typhon has a point about cheaper models and manufacturers using cheaper parts as well...so luck plays a bit bigger role in those tv's...also picture quality might diminish over time more than on more expensive ones...

I thought you had a PS4 - you should be able to get Amazon Prime on that. I know because I use to have it for my PS4 Pro and my Xbox One S.

Yes I do. But my PS4 is connected to my small bedroom/office tv and I rarely watch tv from that...
Honestly though I did NOT know you could get Amazon Prime on PS4. So that'd be cool then I could watch it from both tv's if needed. :)

I've got a Samsung that's 42" and two LG 72" screens. Very happy with all three, use the 72" for movies, get a great picture and sound.
-
I've got a Philips TV LED Full HD 47 " . Good tv . 7 yrs old if I'm correct.

I have an LG Oled 4K Tv. It’s about 2 years old. Make no mistake LG oled is the best technology on the market. I did a lot of homework and comparisons before buying and for picture quality stood head and shoulders above the other brands. I was sceptical about the LG brand at first but they’ve come along way in the last 10 years to be top of the market and invented the oled technology. Other brands have tried to copy them but just not as good
Only issue you might have is that they are pricey and don’t think they’re available in anything under 55” Might be the same for a for the other major brands with their oled’s and Samsung Qled which is utter shit.
Sony is probably the next best but if you want the latest tech you won’t get one in 42” and below.

I have wondered about LG but I don't know much about them, so that's useful advise. They do a 43 inch model:
LG 43UN71006LB 43 Inch UHD 4K HDR Smart LED TV
... Amazon UK don't have any 43" ecxept from 3rd parties, but they have the 49" version on Prime.
-
Jack is correct in that LG's Oled is the best technology with respect to picture quality. The problem is they are very expensive. I doubt you could find one for less than $2,000 US, no matter what the size. I didn't think Charger would want to spend so much, and that is why I did not mention it.
-
Oled would be the best option I think too but the price tends to go bit too high on them...
LG is a great brand...heck almost every other manufacturer uses LG's screen elements anyways including Samsung I believe.
If there is an Oled one for sale on Black Friday for a decent price that might be my choice but I doubt I'd get a good enough deal for one....
EDIT:
Yeah out of my price range...cheapest Oled is at 1199€ at the moment...so even if it would be at 50% sale it would still be above my budget...plus it's a 48"
EDIT 2:
I wonder what would that LGs NanoCell be like? Atleast it's got direct LED lighting...
-
My LGs are Oled and we're members at Costco and picked them up for a very much reduced price.
Does Finland have any wholesale clubs?

No we don't.
We have big chain stores both domestic and european and they sometimes do great deals on black friday but that's about it. And even then there's usually a very limited number of items so you gotta be fast if you want one.

I was referring to not making a 42” or 43” size in Oled.

Single's Day sale has this for 399€
LG 43UN8000 43" Smart 4K Ultra HD
It seems to have all I need...so if this gets a bit of a better deal for Black Friday it might be my choice.
It is also a direct LED panel so the contrast should be good.
-
^^^^^^
What would that be in US $ ?
-
^^^
At the current exchange rate $470.
-
That's about right yes.
I've given myself a budget of roughly 400€ max.
We'll see... If nothing good comes up I won't buy...it's not something I need as my old tv works just fine...and I tend to buy dvd/bluray boxsets of tv shows anyways so I don't really need a streaming service either...
-
So I have pretty much decided to get that new tv post christmas...
Since most of my tv watching is happening in the dark the LG NanoCell is out of the question as it's picture is not black enough in the dark setting as that panel is designed to work best in bright light conditions.
So Samsung Qled it is...it has the best and deepest black of all non Oled tv's...
The 43" Qled is now 444€ so that's my budget..if there's a sale after xmas awesome, if not I'll be getting it anyways.
-
Sounds like you got your plan together. Hope that sale kicks in and you can take advantage!
-
Well no real sale on the tv BUT there's a pretty good deal (50% off) on a decent soundbar system so I'll take advantage of that.
Ordered the Samsung 43" Qled and a Philips 3.1 Soundbar system for total of 595€
Also won 300€ from a casino today so...it cost me only 295€ ;D

Playing what?

Playing what?
A new slot called Expanding Fireworks...by Gamomatic. 12 freespins with some retriggers... 1€ bet. Not bad.
-
If that was an illegal online casino, then you may have committed...
... a TV Crime!
-
:D
Luckily I only use MGA licensed casinos....also don't need to worry about taxes as all winnings are tax free as well.
-

Oh, online? I was under the impression you went to a casino.
-
Sounds like a plan.
But if you *were* using an illegal casino, we'd have a great tie-in with the Dehumanizer discussion.

Yeah online...we don't really have Casinos here...and even the little ones we have are closed at the moment due to the covid thing.
Sounds like a plan.

Yup. The connection did make me chuckle indeed. ;D
