Disappointing start to the season by the Cowboys. I know they only went down 20-17 to the Rams in L.A but it felt like same old same old watching them today. Poor on defense, questionable play calls and an offense that lacked creativity. In saying that, they got ripped with that pass interference call against Gallup on offense in the dying seconds that at the very least would’ve put them in field goal range to tie the scores and send it into OT.
-
But in the end, if a questionable call is the deciding factor in a game played in a lackluster manner, then I think that's on the coach and players. If they'd been more decisive earlier on, then the blown call would have meant winning by 4 points instead of 7, something like that. If it's a red-hot barnburner or a defensive slugging match where the teams are giving it their all and that questionable call decides the winner, that's when I get mad at the officiating. But if the Gods of Football are not pleased with the players' performance, they shall send that blown call as a plague upon the team.
-
Amazing comeback by the Cowboys. Dak was immense as was that field goal at the end to seal the win. But man, the defense needs some work.
-
Speaking of field goals...Chiefs over Chargers in OT off of a 58 yarder from Butker. Which, for various reasons, was the third kick he had to make on that little play. One 53 yard, and a Chief thought it'd be a good idea to draw a flag. So, second attempt but now at 58 yards. He kicks as the Chargers call a timeout. He make the goal but of course has to do it again. And he did.
At a news conference after the game, he thanked the Chargers for giving him three chances :)
-
^^^What drama! Thats what you call clutch.
-
Atlanta has to deal with the fallout of blowing ANOTHER huge lead... ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch!
-
Cowboys went down 38-31 in Seattle but I thought they held their own. Offense is getting the job done but again the defense is costing along with the penalty count. Need to start games more aggressively too.

I was listening to guys on a pre-game show saying that both sides had awful defense. That's when I called it would be a high-scoring Dallas loss. :smug:
Gonna be one of those "building years" for the Cowboys, I think.

I was surprised that the Ravens had such a poor outing last night against the best NFL team known to man ;)

Just finished watching the replay now. Ravens were no match for the Chiefs who again are the team to beat this season. Mahomes is in a class of his own...

Looks like I'm a Chiefs fan for this season.
GO KC!

Titans and Vikings won't be playing this coming weekend, all the more reason to root for KANSAS CITY!!!
-
Does Dallas have any defense at all? Who the heck is Cleveland to be scoring 49 points on anybody?
-
^^ no kidding. I realize the Browns have been on an uptick the past couple of seasons, but in their case that means upticking from a putrid shit hole. Dallas had best watch itself or they'll end up there.
-
ooof that game was rough... pitiful, even...
Good thing I'm a Chiefs fan this year! :smug:
-
Fancy giving up 49 points against the Browns on your home deck. Cowboys are fucked and won’t be making the playoffs this season if the other teams in their division decide to get their acts together.
-
^ Totally true... giving up 49 points to The Factory of Sadness is just pitiful.

What does $4.50 mean? What are the odds?

Its 9/2 in the old scale. Every dollar on you receive $4.50 back. So total return would be $225 minus the free $50 they let you bet with. They don’t give you that to keep.
-
Free $225, basically, should Mahomes take his team to a repeat win.
-
That was a rough game against the Pats last night. It stands to reason that the Pats would have posted more points if Cam was on the field, but maybe not. Their D kept KC in check for the most part, but it was simply not enough.
On any given NFL team, there's a lot of talent. Getting it all to work together consistently is the hard part. The Chiefs seem to have hit on that, and with Mahomes being a once-in-a-generation QB machine, I think Jack's odds of scooping up that bet are good.

Hey, those are pretty good odds, Jack. 8)
Currently, the Las Vegas odds for K.C. to win the SB are 7/2 ($1 to make $3.50).
However, I'm referring to U.S. dollars. Perhaps the exchange rate makes up the difference.
-
Nope, those are better odds he's getting, unless he's betting US$ and being paid in AUS$.
-
Sorry I should’ve been more precise. That 9/2 I mentioned is not the precise fractional conversation. That 7/2 you mention would be bookmaker fractional odds which is total profit made. Decimal odds is $4.50 which works out the same. $100 @7/2 would be a profit of $350 + your $100 outlay back. $100 @$4.50 includes money back. $4.50 is equivalent to the fractional odds of 7/2.
-
Hey, how about them Texans? lol
-
Besides their 0-4 start have I missed something?
Or is “Texans“ all-encompassing? ;)

I hadn't considered your second option lol. They fired Bill O'Brien. After tossing out some top-flight talent and replacing them with mediocre talent, then paying them top salary in the entire league, and almost choking the whole football team with financial problems, people were yelling for someone new. His leadership and play-calling was on-par with the level of good decision making that a truck stop whore displays while deciding whose dick to suck.
And they finally canned him. Four games into the regular season.
LOL

Pretty much all the Texan teams are in the crapper.
The NFC East is just as bad... made up of 4 teams, with 3 wins total in the division.

^^^^^^
Whoever wins that division, may wind up with a worse record than the wild card teams.

Thought it might’ve been something along those lines but didn’t bother to look it up. You did throw me off a little with the “What about those” line which is usually associated with the cowboys.
Besides what the Cowboys are up to I’m not usually up with all the comings & goings in the NFL off season. I thought O’Brien had been getting the best out of the playing roster he had the last few seasons though.
I remember watching a story on him on ESPN a couple of years ago. He has a severely disabled child or something. I was rooting for him from thereon as I hate to see people dealing with that type of stuff in their personal life also having to deal with the huge pressure of being an NFL coach or any pro sporting coach for that matter when things are going pear-shaped.
-
With the Chicago Bears playing last night, I was reminded of a couple of Bears players I watched when I was a kid. If you are a fan of the game at all, you really should take a look. This was tough hard nose football. >:(

You're right - I watched the game that's how traumatized I was.
-
Well, that was one crazy week... Seahawks are looking very strong and I'll have what the team from Vegas is drinking, it seems to be doing a good job!
And how is it that the Browns are 4-1 - and *third* in their division, overall?
:zomgwtfbbq:
-
Turn those mics down, children are watching. :naughty:
-
Lol, they should make the Salvation Army donation cauldrons into swear jars, raise a lotta charity money that way! :smug:
-
And the Chiefs show they have a running game in addition to their MVP QB.
-
And the Chiefs show they have a running game in addition to their MVP QB.
Meanwhile, nobody in NFC East got any game...
-
The Chiefs game is some great fun to watch. I tuned in on the 2nd half, got to see a sweet pick-6 and an even sweeter 103-yard kickoff return for a TD. Go Chiefs!
-
Seems like the only reason the Broncos showed up was to turn the ball over to KC. Then Denver's onside kick betrayed their desperation, and failed anyway. They had to feel like chumps when we were so far ahead we pulled Mahomes out just to give our No. 2 QB some field time. And he ran one in for a TD.
There were individual instances of solid playing by the Broncos. But the team as a whole looked like they'd rather have been watching the snow from under a comfy blanket while sipping some hot cocoa, dreaming of the days when Elway was their QB.
The Chiefs, on the other hand, showed up to play football.
-
The Chiefs, on the other hand, showed up to play football.
And the Cowboys obviously didn’t and look to have given up on the season already.
Garrett’s looking like a magician compared to what’s going on there now....
-
Cowboys are in an awful spot, with Dalton down with a concussion and Dak's massive injury. Still doesn't excuse what happens on the defensive side of the ball. They need another Herschel Walker trade and FAST.
-
^^And not one Cowboys player stood up for Dalton when he copped that cheap shot which tells you where that teams at right now. I’d give McCarthy 3 weeks to turn it around or move him on.
Doesn’t seem like the team is playing for him.
-
Yeah, there's a lot of fallout from nobody standing up for Dalton. This was supposed to be a team loaded with talent that just needed a better coach than Garrett to reach the next level. Instead, they had defense plague them at the start and then, after Dak went out with an injury, just folded up. They have no leadership, and that ultimately goes back up to the coach, ESPECIALLY the coach that was supposed to get the Cowboys to at least the conference playoff this year. Now they're 3rd of 4 in the worst division in that conference.
On the other side of the league, It's great to see Cole Beasley running up the numbers for the Bills, as he was one of my faves when he played for Dallas. It's sad to see the Jets go through their agonies.
One of the smartest plays from last week was the Lions forcing Atlanta to score in order to have as much clock as possible to come back with a winning score. It worked out well for the Lions on that move.
-
It’s actually painful watching the Cowboys at the moment. Yeah they’ve been forced to go to their 3rd string QB and have other injuries on both offense & defense but they still have some offensive weapons on that team and you’d think the offensive coordinator could invent or manufacture a play to score at least one TD.
They did battle hard today but you just knew deep down how the game was going to go and they were never a realistic chance of scoring a TD let alone winning
-
Mahomes threw five (5) TDs against the Jets. It was a dull game to watch simply because the match-up was so uneven. One team played like a team, the other played like a bunch of random guys who decided to get together and play some street football.
-
Looking at the Chiefs' schedule, I see about half the games with an opponent that could be feisty enough to put up a fight - Raiders, Saints, Bucs, Dolphins - and then four others that look like creampuff opponents to help boost the W-L record for the UPI polling... The Flintstones could very well have a 13-3 record or better heading into the postseason.
Looking at the Dallas schedule for the rest of the year, it looks like a lot of hurt on their plate. They could very well be 4-12 as they pick out new televisions to watch the playoffs on.
-
I like how the Bucs are travelling. They’re strong on both sides of the ball and are adding Antonio Brown to that offense. Will be interesting how that dynamic plays out if Brady has in fact managed to turn his attitude around and he’s as fit as they’re saying he is.
With the Cowboys down and out I’ll be taking a keen interest in them. My wife has cousins in Tampa Bay and we stayed with them for a week and went to Raymond James stadium to watch a college game so there’s a bit of a soft spot for them.
-
Yes, rooting for Tampa looks to be much less frustrating than rooting for Dallas. That poor 3rd-string QB is in way over his head and pundits are saying that Dallas needs to either win out or lose out to make this season have any value.
-
Losing to get a high draft pick is the Cowboys best option this season.
-
Losing to get a high draft pick is the Cowboys best option this season.
And then next season... being sure that the high draft pick gets used properly!
-
We're pretty much done with Week 9, and the NFC East has 9 wins between the 4 teams. Ugh.
All my friends who are Bills fans are in 7th Heaven over their recent run of wins.
-
Of coarse the Cowboys couldn’t come through when it mattered >:(
Is Aaron Rogers the only one that stands between the Chiefs and back to back Super Bowl wins?
The Bills are dangerous!

I watched the last quarter of the Cowboys/Giants game. Thought for a bit the Cowboys might pull off a win, but they just couldn't get it done.
I hope the Chiefs get refocused, or they won't even make it to the Super Bowl!

I'll take the teams with the better W-L record in this round:
Bills and Steelers are clear in that regard. Flaming Thumbtacks and Ravens have the same record, so I'll go with the Ravens, who are on a bigger winning streak.
On the NFC side, Seahawks and Saints and Bucs are easy to call. Washington will lose: the question here is going to be by how much and will Brady get benched in the second half to save up for the next round?
-
Bills
Seahawks
Bucs
Ravens
Saints
Steelers
If there was to be an upset I would’ve picked the Browns to beat the Steelers but Covid has put pay to that happening.

Love it when I can settle in and watch a full day of live football for the day.

Thought the Colts were going to win that game at the end!

Rams are looking good at the half. Sean McVay is 36-0 when leading at half-time inc playoff games.

Yeah, the Rams are there to win.

So the Rams and Bucs prevailed along with the Bills. Enjoyed all 3 games.

Typhon you’re so patriotic and pro Trump and you support these assholes who take knees during the National Anthem and then advocate for Trump? That’s kind of hypocritical.
Support them how? I never attend any games (even when we could). I don't purchase any team apparel. I don't even watch the games. I look at the highlights and read statistics, that's all. So these leagues cannot make one cent off of me.
-
If there was to be an upset I would’ve picked the Browns to beat the Steelers but Covid has put pay to that happening.
Nope! Covid has pretty much stopped everything the last 9 months but it couldn’t stop the upset. Super win by the Browns.

I got busy and missed calling my picks for yesterday - didn't even get to watch any of the games. Did catch reel highlights, Cleveland played like they had a grudge and it worked.

Watching the KC-Cleveland game right now. Defenses sure as hell win championships, seeing that now.
-
Oh damn, I hate it when a guy goes down with a concussion. :(
-
That KC/Browns game could have gone either way. I knew Mahomes was out when he tried standing up and had that glazed look on his face. Sounds like he's going to be OK. Their backup QB, despite throwing an INT did w fine job keeping the ship afloat, and yeah defense was critical across the board.
-
Yeah, that kid showed some real spunk on the field, but KC will breathe easiest when Mahomes is back on the active roster.
-
Not sure what the concussion protocols are in the NFL but does Mahomes have to pass a series of tests by an independent doctor in order to play next week or does he automatically have to sit out the game for a period of time?
Great to see both the Bills and Bucs into the Championship playoff games. Dam it I was tossing up whether to pick the Ravens or Bucs as an away team win to make up a pick on Typhon who ended up going with the Ravens anyway :wall:
-
https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2016/9/18/12940926/nfl-concussion-protocol-explained
No set timeline, it's monitoring of symptoms.
I'd say if Mahomes is back, I'd have the Chiefs edge the Bills. If not, it could be the Bills' year to go to the big dance.
I expect both Tampa Bay and Green Bay to win next week, which makes predicting the winner of their game a tough proposition.

I'm going with Green Bay over Tampa Bay because I like cheese more than humidity. Oddsmakers give GB a slight edge, but I think the only surprise that could come out of this matchup would be if it isn't a close game.
I expect similar closeness in the Bills-Chiefs game. If Mahomes clears concussion protocol and is truly ready to play, then the game goes to KC. If not, then the Bills Mafia has a very happy Monday morning. I'm thinking Mahomes will be ready on Sunday, and I think they'll be the winner of the AFC championship.

Packers
Chiefs

Packers

Is it Chiefs all the way, or conditional on Mahomes' status?

Tempted to pick Tampa but I’ll play it safe and pick Green Bay and Kansas City.

Mahomes will take the field tomorrow, according to latest reports. Im unwilling to make a prediction for the SB at this point :)
-
Well that’s good news for my bet :)
-
Mahomes will take the field tomorrow, according to latest reports. Im unwilling to make a prediction for the SB at this point :)
Just checked on that, myself. Hoping he's really good to go and not a kid thinking he can push through the disorientation.
STUPID STORY TIME
When I was much younger, I gave myself a concussion when I was fixing something underneath a set of very firm wall-mounted shelves and brought my head up into said shelves and found that the skill with which they were anchored was directly proportional to the amount of bell that got rung in my brain. But that's not the stupid part, that can happen to anyone. The stupid part is that I took a rest for about 20 minutes and then went out and did yard work until I got heat exhaustion. Found out later that one of the symptoms of a concussion is thinking it's no big deal and you can beat this thing.
NOW TO BRETT FAVRE
Which is pretty much what Brett Favre said in interviews, except his bell got rung many, many, many more times. I'm truly hoping Mahomes is playing because he is 100% and not because he's convinced himself and others that he's 100%. I've had the *one* concussion and that alone gives me the jibblies just thinking about it. Favre talks about lifelong consequences and uncertainties from a career of concussions...
... which is why I'd be behind rules changes to designate certain players in high-risk positions (QB, WR, kickers and punters for starters) to be non-tackleable. Give them two flags on either hip and if a flag is pulled, the player is down at that location. Give them distinctive marks on their uniforms so it's easy to recognize them and their status and we can all have some fun with the game and reduce the risk that it has to be interrupted because of an injury that ends a career and impacts the lives around it.
-
^^^^^^
Ridiculous, no one would pay to watch flag football. Instead, design safer equipment.

Impact to the head means the brain moves around in the skull, giving trauma. Doesn't matter how awesome the helmet is, concussions are still a thing if players take a hard hit with each other or the ground. Safer equipment, yes, I'm all for that. But also safer playing styles.

Huge play by Tampa at the end of the half to take a 21-10 lead. Brady showing why he’s the GOAT

Yes indeed... Packers got a massive hill to climb.
-
28-23 at Q3... Gotta remember, that's not just anyone playing QB for GB... That's Aaron Rodgers. That man knows how to reach down deeeeeeeeeeeep and pull up a big, juicy nugget of a touchdown and 2-point conversion inside of 32 seconds... Guy is the poster child of "down, but not out."
-
And just like that... Tampa Bay is off to the Super Bowl
First team to ever play in a home Super Bowl.
Was surprised GB didn’t go for it on that 4th & goal
-
Surprised here, as well. If you want to win, you have to go for it.
Well done, Tampa Bay... and now Brady and his team have home field advantage! >:D
Time for KC and Buffalo to get down to brass tacks to see which AFC team goes to the big dance.
-
Yeah, that 4th & goal for GB was a limp call. Lack of confidence to step up when stepping was needed. Whelp, Brady at the very least won a divisional championship - how's New England doin'?
Go Chiefs!
-
So far, it's a good day to be a KC fan! KC Defense is able to put more pressure on Allen than the Bills defense is putting on Mahomes.
EDIT: Speaking of not going for it on 4th down... Buffalo left points on the field by kicking instead of driving for the touchdown, I'm thinking.
-
^^^ Agree Sean McDermott has made gutsy calls all season so expected him to make one there.
The Chiefs defense has held up well so far. Think they’ll go on with it in the 2nd half
-
4th and 1 for Buffalo at the KC 42 at the start of the 4th, and they're down by 16... I'm thinking it's gonna be a hard day for the Bills Mafia...
-
KC scored off an INT. Technically possible for Buffalo to climb that deficit, but Jupiter and Saturn have already passed alignment, so they're hosed.

Gonna say KC wins the Super Bowl. Not gonna call the score, just that they win. If Tyreek Hill is double-covered, Travis Kelce gets the yardage. If the focus is on the tight ends, whoops, looks like that's Hill running for the end zone! Mahomes has loads of weapons and the ability to use every one of them. He's got essentially the same crew he had last year, doing the job again. Brady is still Brady and has a great and surprising team with him, but with COVID, home field advantage isn't going to be as big a factor. This should be a great game.

KC predicted to win by 3. Kickoff in about 2 hours.

Tampa Bay
-
The betting agency I’ve been with for ever and a day was just bought out by another betting agency and to celebrate, they offered their long term members a free $50 bet, so I plonked it straight on the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl @$4.50
Had a saver on Tampa Bay over the weekend taking them in a treble with a cricket game and a women’s football game which both won. So I can’t lose now.
Picking Tampa Bay just to make this thing interesting.
Being a Chiefs fan I thinks it’s safe to assume Vyn has picked them if he doesn’t log in before kick off.

Also nice that Arians 95yo mother was there to see her son win his first SB as a head coach too.

Tampa won that lock, stock, and barrel. Nice to see Arians grab a ring. Chiefs should give Butker an award for at least keeping the game from being a shutout.
What a piss-poor showing for KC, and what a feather in the cap for 43 year old Tom Brady.
-
Brady to Gronk scored almost half the points for the Bucs... but it was the Tampa OL that made that possible, and the Tampa D that kept KC to 9. Excellent playcalling on the Tampa side of the field.
