Title: Your Unplayed Music
Post by: KiloDeltaCharlie on June 21, 2020, 02:30:08 PM
Without looking too deepley, I was browsing my CD collection earlier and noticed a few albums which I am unlikely to have played... this century!

I'm looking at:

Mike Oldfield's - Tubular Bells 1 & 2
Jean Michelle Jarre's - Oxygene
Dire Straites - Brothers in Arms
Meatloaf's - Bat Out of Hell 2

... there's a load of other I suspect but I haven't investigated.

I don't dislike the albums, I just never had the urge to play them. I'll have to give it a closer look, and actually give them a spin!

Anything like that in your collections?

I’ll have to go through my collection and see. I’m sure there’s a ton of stuff I haven’t listened to for over 20 years.

Given a 20 year time span, I've spun most of them at least once. There are some, though, that I can think of off the top of my head that have languished. Not so much because I don't like the music, just haven't played them.

A couple from The Hollies
A couple from Chicago
A nice double album from Raven titled The Devil's Carrion (but in fairness it's a comp, and I've hit up the other disks)

There are some that I have that I don't listen to because I don't like them. Yet I still have them lol. A few for sentimental reasons, a few because they are tough to find (I'm talking vinyl, of course) and/or might be worth a few dollars.

Jazz Fusion. I've heard enough Return to Forever for a lifetime. :smug:

I've just run through the A-C folder of groups on my HDD, these are what I haven't listened to in 20 yeast (or more)!

AC/DC - Blow Up Your Video
Bryan Adams - Reckless
Barclay James Harvest - The Compact Collection
Black Crowes - $hake Your Money Maker (but I think it's faulty if memory serves)
Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet
David Bowie - Changes
Sam Brown 0 Stop!
Eric Clapton - The Cream of...
Crowded House - Recurring Dream
The Cure - Staring At The Sea

I'll post D thru G tomorrow.

You know, I haven't listened to Appetite for Destruction since at least 1995, if not earlier. It just got so overplayed, I quit playing it and never stopped not playing it.

Going through my collection and deleting stuff that I'm not listening to now and probably won't listen to again...

Robert Plant & Alison Krause - Raising Sand: real disappointment, I bought more for the Alison Krause than the Robert Plant, lol... but not my kind of country music.
A ton of Hawkwind bootlegs I downloaded. Done with those and they're on YouTube by now if I need to hear them again.
An album of a bunch of guys covering Jimmie Rodgers' songs. NOT A ONE OF THEM YODELS! Very disappointing, and Jerry Garcia sounds as near to death on this as he was at the time, very sad.
Will Smith - Big Willie Style: It's time to let it go. :) It was fun when I was teaching, but there's no call for it now.
Both my Gnarls Barkley albums - There's some good riffs on them, but the songs suddenly stop right when they get good. So I don't really play them that much. I prefer Cee-Lo Greene's solo work, anyway.
A set of panpipe music I bought from some dudes on the Mexico City subway. Not really gonna go back to that, it was fun for a dollar at the time.
My PM Dawn album... I still had the MP3s? Wow, that hasn't been listened to this century...
The Squirrel Nut Zippers. Done with that one.

Time to sort through tons of MP3s my mom gave me for the radio show that are duplicates of stuff I already have... it's like cleaning out an attic, going through those.

It was a compilation album of cover songs from the artist that performed at the Moscow Peace Festival for the Make A Difference Foundation. Besides Bon Jovi’s version of The Boys Are Back In Town most of the covers were pretty good, in particular Motley Crüe doing Teaser and Scorpions I Cant Explain.

Phenomena was a rock concept band put together by producer Tom Galley and his brother Mel with a bunch of guest singers and musicians. Ray Gillan and Glenn Hughes being the most notable. Very 80’s AOR sounding.

I have several hundred that I have not listened to in 10 years. Music across all genres that I just to not feel the need to hear anymore. I still like having them because I am a collecting maniac!!!

I've got a bunch of stuff I don't listen to anymore as well.

The thing is those albums are worth absolutely nothing and no one would buy them anyways so I'm just keeping them in the collection...what the heck...

Same for me, but there's some nostalgic things in my collection that I'd keep but probably won't listen to anytime soon.

Not many in the H thru L section of my collection:

Jean Michell Jarre - Oxygene (as previously mentioned)
Billy Joel - Greatest Hits I & II and also Storm Front
Tom Jones - The Complete
Carole King - Tapestry
Lighthouse Family - Ocean Drive
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gold & Platinum

When I remember I'll do the M thru P section!

Pretty much the only Skynyrd album I like anymore is Give Me Back My Bullets. I can play cuts off the others, but that's the one I can listen to all the way through.
