Title: Motörhead
Post by: Jack the Stripper on May 08, 2020, 01:22:44 AM
Just noticed we don’t have a dedicated thread to one of the great and most iconic bands to ever exist, Motörhead.

So what better way to kick one off than the 8th of May which has officially become Motörhead Day...The loudest day of the year.

Raise a toast to Motörhead and in particular to Lemmy, Eddie, Phil and Würzel

Happy Motörhead Day everyone

I just realised it's nearly 4½ years since Lemmy passed away, it seems like yesterday!

Any particular reason they chose 8th May as Motorhead day?

I always liked this one:

The 8th of May sounds similar to the “Ace of Spades” like May the 4th be with you.

I like that song also. The 1916 album rules.

Ace Of Spades turns 40 later this year too!

Motörhead most certainly deserves a thread!

I had no Idea 8th of may was Motörhead day! Pretty cool!

IT'S THE 8TH OF MAY!
IT'S THE 8TH OF MAY!
IT'S THE 8TH OF MAY!
IT'S THE 8TH OF MAY!

You know I'm born to lose
And gambling's for fools
But that's the way I like it, baby
I don't want to live forever!

AND DON'T FORGET THE JOKER!

Those folks standing, and I mean just standing, in the audience look like they're watching a building on fire or something lol.

I might start my top 10 Motörhead albums countdown from tomorrow. I think I can narrow it down but putting them in some semblance of order will be difficult.

I seem to have more albums by Motorhead than I thought (14), including a 40 track  The Best Of  I have absolutely no recollection of buying! I might have to give some of them a listen before I can order them, I think I have a top 3 though.

I'm on board with this.

I do think it deserves it's very own thread.

A super douper extra special edition of ACE OF SPADES is coming out!

https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/motorhead-ace-of-spades-deluxe-collectors-box-set-due-in-october/ (https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/motorhead-ace-of-spades-deluxe-collectors-box-set-due-in-october/)

Looks like a pretty damn cool package but I fear the price is going to be insane.

Just saw that and was just about to post the same link but you beat me to it. A must get obviously.

I still haven’t picked up the 79 deluxe boxset that came out late last year.

I checked about that 79 boxset...159€ here...too rich for my blood.

I'm assuming this will go around the same price range...maybe even bit more.

The super deluxe set which comes in a front zip open leather jacket is nearly double that price. That’s the one I’d like get. It’s limited to 500.

I want the face mask. If it was shipping now I'd buy it. The box sets are awesome...the unreleased stuff would be cool to hear...I don't know...

Yeah the masks are cool. Not shipping until late October though. Dunno, you wouldn’t want this pandemic to last any longer just so you can get to wear your mask lol.

I ordered the Sabbath mask the other day along with the MOR etched glass as I’ve been collecting the limited edition themed glasses they’ve been releasing one every 4-5 months but that’s not shipping until sometime in August. The masks are shipping now so I hope they send them out ahead of the the glass being shipped.

Haha! That sounds like a cool package!

I just made a new shelf dedicated for Motörhead as I am now filling my collection with all of the missing albums....well...slowly...but surely.

Y'know I genuinely think that "Year of the Wolf" maybe my new favourite Motorhead song.

That is a great song!

Mine is Killers from that very same album!

I'm still learning about all the songs on Inferno, some are more immediate than others, and Killers is getting better!  :headbanger:

I may give it a few days but I might post my Top 12 Motorhead songs on here.

Don’t think I could possibly pick 12 favourite songs. Maybe 50 not in order but not 12.

Why don’t we do a Motörhead song survivor series? It’ll take a lot of work but I’m gonna have a lot of time on my hands in the next 6 weeks  :whistling:

Coming at the back end of this, I was digging through some Northern Soul tunes today and came across this:

... which song Motorhead covered on their "What's Wordsworth" LP. I did not realize until today that there was a connection, largely because I didn't find the original until today. So there's the direct link between Motorhead and Motown. :smug:

I see there is a 40th Anniversary Edition of No Sleep 'til Hammersmith due out in June. It has some bonus tracks on Disc 1 (incluing Over the Top which was mentioned in the Motrhead Punk thread) and 3 further disks of live shows from the tour (March 28th 1981 in Leeds, March 29th/30th both from Newcastle). The problem I see with with the 3 additional concerts are they are consecutive shows from the tour with "exactly" the same track listing on each!

Disks 2/3 and 4 track listing:
Ace Of Spades
Stay Clean
Over The Top
Metropolis
Shoot You In The Back
The Hammer
Jailbait
Leaving Here
Iron Horse
Fire Fire
Capricorn
Too Late Too Late
No Class
(We Are) The Road Crew
Bite The Bullet
The Chase Is Better Than The Catch
Overkill
Bomber
Motörhead

Yeah Motörhead wasn't much into changing their setlists mid tour either...

This anniversary things are kind of cool but the pricing of them all has been insane and this honestly seems the most pointless of them all...

Maybe the remastering is better than on the 2008 sanctuary version though...because that is incredibly thin in sound.

Absolutely! Clearly the stars have aligned with the upcoming release of this seriously bad magic, promising a thinning of the veil that separates us from the...other. A thinning such that cogent communication will become possible in the between. But here's the kicker - the intrepid dead-signaler MUST use the specially annointed cardboard and plastic device.

No doubt Lemmy is going to be a busy ghost!

Kinda weird they would release their final album again so soon. Lemmy was dead against milking the fans

They should have just called it "Seriously Bad Magic" rather than having that as a subtitle. And rather than a re-release of the entire Bad Magic release with some add-ons, just made it with the unreleased stuff and a concert/amalgamation.

I wish this would include a bluray but I'm happy for a cd release!

The setlist is rather brilliant!
