That is pretty cool!
Can't wait to see it!

That looks very interesting, will definitely be seeing this once it releases.

This is great news I hope it comes through, it’s been talked about for awhile, but nothing ever comes of it.
-
Are they gonna interview the hologram? :smug:
-
About time they released a proper career perspective on Ronnie. A pity one wasn’t done while he was still alive. Hope they do a good job of it and it’s released in theatres.
-
Where will this documentary be shown, Netflix,Hulu?
-
^^^
I would guess they will make the documentary and then look for a distributor... so it could be anywhere!
-
I’d say it will get a very limited release in cinema’s before hitting the streaming and home video market.

Thanks guys.

The documentary now has a name and a release date (of sorts!):

DIO Dreamers Never Die, will be shown at the South by Southwest Film festival on the 17th March. Maybe look for a theatrical or streaming release later this year.
-
Very interesting....I doubt there'll be a theater release but a dvd release should be coming...and perhaps some streaming service will pick it up.
-
^Agree on streaming being the likely go-to for this doco.

Hoping it makes it to streaming soon. Looks like it'll be a great doco. I don't care if they go easy on him, I love Dio so I don't mind a vehicle that celebrates the good in his life.
-
Agreed.
Can't wait to see it!
-
I’m off to see “Dreamers Never Die” today at the cinema in Crown Casino.
Looking forward to it.
-
I was hoping it might have got a release here, but no sign of it yet. :(
-
How was the show Jack?
-
^^It’s screening in over 500 cinemas worldwide so there will definitely be screenings in the UK Kilo.
Just on the doco. I thought it was extremely well done and a great watch. There are some things that get glossed over and some timeline jumps but given its running length I can understand how they chose to concentrate more on his early beginnings and the major parts of his music career.
Runs about 135 min but 20 minutes of that were outtakes after the credits rolled which were also very cool.
Glad I saw it on the big screen with other fans. The ending was very emotional.
-
Glad to hear it's worth a watch.
Just checked and it has a pretty limited release in the UK. The only place remotely near me is a nightmare to get to if you don't drive. It seems to be a "1-day only" thing as well. I'm sure it will get a streaming/DVD release before too long.
-
Yeah, good to know it's worthwhile. He deserves a solid "bio". The average person does't really know much about him at all, and even among those who are familiar with his work don't know much about his early career/life. So that's really cool that they focus on that aspect.
Definitely will be watching this when I get the chance.
-
Heard nothing but great things about it! Glad you enjoyed it too Jack!
This is most certainly a must see...wish I could do so in theaters...but that's not an option.
-
I'll likely have to await the streaming release, as well, but very much looking forward to it.
-
I would recommend getting along to a cinema to watch it. Not so much because it has to be seen on a big screen or anything, a lot of the archival footage is quite grainy as it’s not in HD obviously, but I think it’s more impactful in a theatre watching it with other people. There are some lol moments which wouldn’t be as funny watching it at home on your own.
I think the overriding thing that really comes across in the movie though, is Ronnie’s passion for the music rather than any scandalous type behaviour you see in other music docos.
Also, Mick Wall is fantastic in it. I love one of his quotes. “Like Muhammad Ali, Ronnie became heavyweight champion 3 times”

So for those that live in the US the doco will be screening on Showtime on Dec 1 and will also available to stream via the Showtime app.

Nothing for those that live outside the US as yet. Although given Showtime is only available in the US and is owned by Paramount, maybe it will stream on Paramount+ at some point?
-
Showtime just started it's streaming service here so I'm hoping it will end up there soon.

Eventually. But Showtime is their bid to get people to pay a wee bit more for the streaming service.

Thank me later ;)

So I’m still the only one on here that’s watched the Dio doco? I’ve actually seen it twice now. I’ve even posted a free link to watch it
-
Yeah I looked at SkyShowtime and it's not on there yet...I'd rather watch it on the bigger screen than on my computer but if it doesn't come there soon I might check it out online then...but I'll wait for a while longer.
-
Fair but to be honest. It’s not a movie that needs to be watched on a big screen. A lot of the archival footage is obviously not in HD. Even the opening sequence was deliberately shot that way to give it the older authentic look. I watched it in the theatre as I really wanted to see it and tneee was no timeline for a release date outside of that. Still isn’t actually.

I clicked on the link but it was blocked or something. I'm sure it will come out on something I have access to soon enough. ;)

Yeah it seems to have been taken down now. Was still available as of last night.
-
Seems to be back up again
-
Indeed! I shall try and find time this afternoon to watch it.
-
I managed about the first hour so far. It's not bad.
-
Should be able to get some time carved out to give it a proper viewing this weekend. Been looking forward to it!
