So last year it was the 12 icons vote, which ended up being rather ridiculous.
And this year it is 20 "best" albums of the second millennium so far.
I do not hold high hopes for this list...It is clear this will go in the way of popularity not quality as well....especially considering the band and the album that kicked the list off:

19. Five Finger Death Punch - And Justice For None (2018)
18. VOLBEAT - Beyond Hell / Above Heaven (2010)
17. AVENGED SEVENFOLD - Nightmare (2010)
16. BEAST IN BLACK - Berserker (2017)
15. IRON MAIDEN - Brave New World (2000)

-
I have hated Green Day the day I heard the first track from them and it hasn't changed...what a god awful band. Some weird teenage angst political shit.
-
^^^
I'm inclined to agree but they did do one song I quite liked (I forget which it is ;) )
-

Longview :partay:
-
^^^ I don't know that one.
After a quick Google, I think the one I quite liked was Basket Case!
-
Not much a fan of Green Day either. A housemate of mine in the late 90’s early 2000’s was obsessed with them and use to play them in the house ad nauseam which drove me completely crazy!
One of the many things I don’t miss about that ex housemate
-
^^^ I don't know that one.
-
Yeah, not a Green Day fan here. This list looks to be pretty rough if it starts that way...
-

I agree they are not as good as Nirvana, but they're not that bad.
-
^^^^^
Oh and forgot to update the list and no it's not getting any better!!!
-
I don't know anything about Five Fingered Death Punch... but I have heard of them!!
-
FFDP?
OH NO NO NO NO NO NO PLEASE GOD HELP ME
 :facepalm2: :kiwf: :mopey: :curly:
-
I keep pondering is that band really so big now?
But seeing the clips from the current Megadeth tour (where they are opening for FFDP) the crowds seem pretty big...
And honestly I just can't understand that...
-
I know that I am alone in my "interest" in FFDP, I will say that the musicians are very good at their jobs. This is of course all ruined by the "singer" and his horrible tough guy lyrics. It sucks because the guy can actually carry a tune but he is like some kind of retarded Phil Anselmo on laxatives and mouthwash. His whole act just ruins what could be a decent Heavy Metal band.
***runs away quickly before the outrage :whistling:
-
^^^
Actually Thel you have a good point!
What bothers me the most is the juvinile and asinine lyrics and the horrid vocals.
Musically the band isn't all that bad. They do remind a bit of a poor mans Pantera wannabe...and I don't mean that in an all negative way. :D
-
This is what the kids listen to that are into rock and metal these days, just like back in our day when Metallica and Megadeth had a few albums under their belt. I respect that and are at least happy that there are kids out there carrying the metal torch.
I mean they could be listening to hip hop or dance R&B like the majority of the younger generation are these days, right?
-
I'll respectfully disagree. I prefer my music without harshness in the vocals. I have no problem with getting me to think about a difficult subject, but let's explore that without getting crude and unimaginative. I don't go for stuff that's dripping with profanity and I don't go for overly-euphemistic "baby-makin' music."
There are a few artists that make hip-hop that I can really get into because they don't sling insults all over the place. Kids want what kids want, but I'm most encouraged when they're not reaching for the shock.
-
I think Green Day are ok, Five Finger Death Punch I’ve heard of just never their music, so I can’t pass judgement.
-

Are you one of those kids I was referring to? :smug:
I think you missed my point anyway ;)
-
Not getting any better!
Volbeat...seriously?!?
-
OK, Volbeat I do not know... so I'm listening to them now and am amazed that they're not Swedish. They're Danish, true, but there's so much pop in the tune, I would swear they're from Sweden.
I prefer my Danes to rock out with more chunks in the music... like Fusskalt does it...

-
Can’t stand Volbeat. The singer reminds of that “Let’s get ready to rumble” guy everytime he opens his mouth to sing.

That puts the finger directly on it.
-

Don't know what that means but I can't stand Volbeat either...waay too commercial for my liking.
Can't believe Rob Caggiano left Anthrax for this garbage...but then again that might have been Anthrax's luck though as Jon Donais is pretty damn good.
-
Oh and here we have #17 which is....
Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare
The title track is rather awesome but don't really know much else. Mike Portnoy is playing drums on this album, which makes it bit special I suppose.
-
I've heard of the band, but never heard their stuff... I guess I'm too busy with the stoner/desert rock scene...
-
My son is a big fan of Avenged Sevenfold. I don’t mind their stuff but only in small doses.
-
And now an utter and total shock...
16. Beast In Black!
Here's what I think of this list:
:frustration:
-
I've never heard of them ???
-
My son is a big fan of Avenged Sevenfold. I don’t mind their stuff but only in small doses.
I have most of their albums but I think they were doing their best music on the first two or three records. After that they seemed hellbent on copying Metallica and Guns N Roses with little to no shame. Sometimes though they were successful in creating something memorable. They tried a bit of a more progressive sound on their last album that I enjoyed and I hope that they continue in that direction.
Your son has great taste
-
Almost forgot about this!
Number 15 is finally an album that was featured on some our lists too!
Iron Maiden - Brave New World
-
^^^
Yes, a good choice, it only just missed my personal Top 20.
-
More oddballs to the list...
The 69 Eyes - Blessed Be
-
More oddballs to the list...
The 69 Eyes - Blessed Be
:wha:
-
I guess one could have expected finnish bands to be one the list but at this level?
Sentenced - The Cold White Light
-
Wondering when Leningrad Cowboys show up on the list...
-
Haaahaha! Yeah!
By the way I am rather surprised you even know those weirdos!
-
It's all because I like weird foreign movies and I came across "Leningrad Cowboys Go America" back in the early 90s. Had a great time with that movie. :)
-
Another shocker
Ghost - Prequelle
-
Easily their worst album. I can dig their stuff up to Meliora but they jumped the shark with Prequelle.
-
Oh god....
11. Him - Love Metal
:facepalm1:
-
Babymetal on its way to the top 10! I can feel it with where this list is going!
-
^^^^
Actually Baby Metal is not popular here...at all...thank god.
But now I am loss for words...
10. Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
:puke:
-
^^^^

10. Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
:puke:
:haha2:
-
In a moment of lunacy I actually bought Hybrid Theory... I don't think I've played it since... honest!
I can hand in my membership if it helps!
-
I bought a copy of Hybrid just to see what all the fuss was about. Actually I have never listened to it and I believe it is still in the packaging.
-
Aaand #9
Rammstein - Mutter
This I don't mind so much...would it ever even be close to being on any of my lists...NO but I do understand why it might be on some people's lists.
-
#8.
Ghost - Meliora
:puke:
-
#8.
Ghost - Meliora
:puke:
:mopey:
-
aaaand more Finnish crap:
#7 Stamina - Viimeinen Atlantis
-
Is there a Norwegian list to compare it to?
Not wanting to consider a Swedish one, it'll be all pop metal. :problem:
-
Something mildly agreeable for once
6. System Of A Down - Toxicity
-
Something mildly agreeable for once
6. System Of A Down - Toxicity
Hey, yeah, that *does* make sense!
-
Finally got the final listings part from number 1
5. Kotiteollisuus - Helvetistä Itään
4. Metallica - Hardwired To Self Destruct
3. Nightwish - Endless Forms Most Beautiful
2. Amorphis - Queen Of Time
-
So just waiting on the number 1 pick so I can do all my facepalming at once.
-
Yup...
This whole list pretty much deserves an epical face palm.
-
Yup...
This whole list pretty much deserves an epical face palm.
Especially Linkin Park in the top 10.
:ivan:
-
Yeah that shit just don't make no sense man...no sense!
But that just solidifies the fact that I've always known...Finns are morons. (And I'm a Finn so I am allowed to say that without it being racist! :ninja: )
-
Well, Finns are also famed for their rally drivers... and their ski troops!
-
And here's the epic facepalm:
#1 Rammstein - Rammstein!
:facepalm1:
:hankhill:
:ivan:
-
Finland need to be isolated for their own good! Let them loose with sharp objects, announce the Hunger Games and let evolution sort this mess out! C:-) >:D
-
I love that Rammstein album but no where near the #1 from the last 20 years.
-
Rammstein at #1
:fail1:
-
Part 2 of this has now started!
This time it's the Radio Rock's hosts that do the listing.
So I'm gonna post their top 20 list here as well then...1 album per week.
Starting with this one:
20. Teräsbetoni - Metallitotuus (2005)
-
Who? Is that one any good?
-
From what I can remember not very good at all...
Pop metal:
-
Yeah, they're pretty much bog-standard metal. Until the singer hits that NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTE!
-
Sounds like power pop metal. How do people even listen to that shit let alone like it? :twitch:
-

I suspect the Swedes are involved, somehow... they be trollin'... Ibsen warned us about the Swedes and their pop-metal:
:trolls:
-
Sadly that's all Finntrolls...
Anyhow...
#19
Rolling Stones - A Bigger Bang
-
Stones? OK, so that's a big net they're casting out...
-
Well this is officially now dubbed the top 20 ROCK albums list so that seems to then include both rock and metal.
-
Or, well, rock and *bad* metal. :)
-
18. Sonata Arctica - Silence
-
18. Sonata Arctica - Silence
I had to look them up... are they like the Finnish version of Creed?
-
They actually do have some good songs....some very traditional metal songs...but I'm not a fan really...
Well now something that we all know for a change:
17. AC/DC - Black Ice
-
Well now something that we all know for a change:
17. AC/DC - Black Ice
Yep, not a surprise, and we all know it... but personally I thought it was one of their weaker albums.
-
Well they are kind of like Motörhead...you pretty much know what you're gonna get...both in good and bad.
It had some good songs and some meh songs.
It was maybe bit uninspired sounding...which was bit odd considering how long of a break there was between this and Stiff Upper Lip.
-
Except Motorhead never had Axl Rose front the band...
-
Oh forgot about this.
16. Mokoma - Sydänjuuret
-
15. Him - Deep Shadows And Brilliant Highlights
-
I tried the title track from the Mokoma album, pretty good, I'd say.
Him... huhhhhhh... not my speed that one...
-
Mokoma is musically okay I suppose...bit on the usual finnish commercial style metal...but I honestly can't stand finnish vocals so it's a hard pass for me.
Him...no...don't even get me started on that pile of....
-
Funny enough, Finnish vocals are fine by me. Go figure... then again, I've also gone out of my way to learn enough Hungarian to understand "Fiu" by Locomotiv GT...
-
And another turd on the list.
14. Audioslave - Audioslave
-
At least I've heard of them! Not sure I could name any of their songs though.
-

I remember hearing them and then forgetting about them.

Same here.

Oh dear...
13. System Of A Down - Mesmerize
:ivan:

# 12
Kotiteollisuus - Iankaikkinen
-
# 12
Kotiteollisuus - Iankaikkinen
:wha:
-
Kotieollisuus was an extremely popular band here when they were active.
I've never really understood why though...as I always considered them to be a less talented bastard son of ZZ Top and Black Label Society.
-
Not hearing a lot of ZZ Top in that number...
-
11. The 69 Eyes - Blessed Be
-
10. The Black Keys - El Camino
This is getting so ridiculous I don't even know what to say....
-
Yeah, this is way more than just metal in the mix... it's a bunch of popular albums and people voting in the popularity contest thereof.
-
Yeah, this is way more than just metal in the mix... it's a bunch of popular albums and people voting in the popularity contest thereof.
No nobody's voting here... It's just the Radio Rock DJ's list. There's about 10 or so of them...don't really know how they've done it though...
-

They probably all got good and drunk one night and made a list on a cocktail napkin!

Probably..on the new Radio Rock Beer.
-

Paranoid!
No. No. No. ... No. The most RESHENT last 20 year'sh.
Oh... uh... um... LEMONADE! By Beyonshay!
No. No. Rock and roll albumsh!
Paranoid!
-
#9
Tool - 10000 Days.
Not a big tool fan myself but I do enjoy this album. Would I put it on my top 10 albums of the 2000s list....hell no....not even in top 100 probably but still.
-
At least I've heard of them, and like some of their stuff. I'm not familiar with that album though, but it's a step forward for this list!!
-
#8
Nightwish - Century Child
Hahaha! They went on an picked the worst Nightwish album for this list...
-
And the higher up the list we go the shittier the albums get?
#7
Queens Of The Stone Age - Songs For The Deaf
-
And the higher up the list we go the shittier the albums get?
Most likely, yes.
-
^^^
Apparently so...
#6
Muse - The Resistance
:ivan:
-
I quite like Muse, but I would have gone for the earlier album Black Holes and Revelations.
-
I quite like Muse, but I would have gone for the earlier album Black Holes and Revelations.
I don't really know much about their stuff but what I have heard I most certainly have not liked. Very commercial sounding stuff...
-
And now at number 5 we have a band I have never even heard of!!!!
#5
Gojira - Magma
-
From wiki: Gojira's sound blends several styles. Gojira are a technical death metal band with an unpredictable blend of death, thrash, groove, progressive, and math metal.
Oh goody. I always like an unpredictable piece of math rock... not...
-
It you’re heavily into metal you’d had to be living under a rock not to have heard of Gojira.
Pleasantly surprised they made the list and so high up, but then again I’m not...
-
^^^
I guess I'm not "heavily" into metal then... :D
Another Finnish album:
#4
Stamina - Taival (Passage)
-
Well now...THIS was a curve ball if I've ever seen one!!!
#3
Type O Negative - Life Is Killing Me
Honestly I much much prefer Dead Again which I think could have indeed have a place in my top 20 as well!
But it is beyond amazing to see Type O on the list and this high too!
-
Finland is full of surprises, isn't it?
-
Back to crappy norm
#2 Foo Fighters - One By One
I do ponder what will they chose for #1...it can literally be anything...
-
I've nothing against the Foo Fighters, but I've never considered buying any of their albums.
-
NUMBER ONE WILL BE BEYONCE'S LEMONADE
-
I've nothing against the Foo Fighters, but I've never considered buying any of their albums.
Yeah I guess they're okay for a soft commercial rock band...but yeah I'd never buy their stuff either...not my style...at all.
Dave Grohl seems to be a really nice guy though and very into rock and metal history.
-
Aaaaaaand can we get a drum roll please?
.....
....
:drummer:
Number one on the list of 20 best albums of the 2000s picked by the hosts of Radio Rock is.....
....
AMORPHIS - Skyforger
Yup...
:ivan:
-
I've never heard of them!
Y'know, come the revolution, that "rock" station will be the first up against the wall!!
-
:wha: :fail1: :yeahright:
