Jack might be really interested in this one.

That's an interesting pairing... I don't really care for Slipknot (eventhough they do have some good songs) but it is a bigger band that the ones Metallica usually tours with unless it's for something special...
I'm sure Jack's gonna enjoy the show!

Yeah it came across my feed this morning. Thh I'm disappointed it's a stadium show. I've seen Metallica over 20 times so the only real interest I have in going is to take my 15yo son who absolutely loves Metallica and has been eagerly awaiting a tour announcement. I took him to 2 shows back in 2010 but he was only 6 at the time so his memory is a bit vague. I also won a M&G through the club back in 2010 and got a drumhead personally signed to him. Incidently I named my son James after Hetfield.
I'm also a legacy member in the Metallica club so it has its little perks, like first dibs on tickets, entering M&G's and also a chance to win Snakepit passes if they bring the Snakepit with them being a stadium show.

I bet your son would really get a kick out of seeing them, especially now that he's older. He'll have that memory with you for the rest of his life for sure.

Yeah he will being his favourite band. He's been to quite a few gigs now though. Kiss, Iron Maiden, Ace Frehely, Alice Cooper x2, Mötley Crüe x3, Black Sabbath x2 inc watching them Soundcheck and Metallica x2. I set him on the right path and got him started very early.

Secured my tickets today through the legacy member presale. Now I'll just wait closer to the date when the M&G and Snakepit pass contest opens up and I'll throw my hat in the ring for those.

What is snakepit? Some kind of designated mosh pit? And you have to pay extra to get beaten up? And you want it? :wtf:

It is like a designated mosh pit. Although I don't think fans really mosh in there. You can't actually buy them unless you buy the Dream No More package which is a M&G package. Only 12 available though, the rest of the snake pit passes(about 280 of them) are given away in a contest through the club.
Here's a picture of it

It was first used on the black album tour in the early 90's and has been resurrected in recent years mainly for Stadium shows as they play in the round for Arena gigs.

Ah...well that's actually kind of cool I suppose...being kind of like the middle of the band.

Just saw this news:

James Hetfield back to rehab and the tour is canceled...I'm sorry Jack... :(
-
Yep, so news came through today that Metallica have had to cancel(they're calling it postponed) their whole Aus/NZ tour which was due to kick off in a couple of weeks time. It seems James has fallen off the wagon again and has had to enter rehab.
I'm ok with it as I've seen them many many tines and tbh wasn't that enthused about a stadium tour but was really looking forward to taking my son who has become quite the fan. They are is favourite band. I took him to a couple of shows back in 2010 but he was only 6 years old at the time so doesn't really remember anything of it.
Most of aIl I wish James all the best in his recovery and hope he comes through this latest setback with flying colours.
-
Sorry you're gonna miss out on your father/son experience.
But yeah the main thing is for James to slay his demons again.
I can imagine heavy touring life can be difficult for a recovering alcoholic or an addict for sure.

Sorry you're gonna miss out on your father/son experience.
Thats ok, we've had plenty of those father/son moments. I've taken him to see quite a few bands since Metallica in 2010. Maiden, Kiss, Alice Cooper x 2, Sabbath with Soundcheck and Motley Crüe x 3 which included him getting his very drunk father back to the hotel we were staying from the Motley residence gig at the hard rock hotel in Vegas in 2013. Something he still reminds me of today.

I caught that news the other day, and my first thought was, "damn, Jack and his son are going to have to wait for Metallica who knows how long now." Mentioned it to my wife, and she asked if Jack was anew guy at work lol. Internet and daily life collide!
Hoping Mr. Hetfield gets the help he needs!

^^^^ That's funny Vyn.
The disappointment of Metallica cancelling has dawned on my son now. Initially we found out Grand Final morning and he had quite a few of his mates coming over for a GF party that day so that's what he was mainly focused on at the time, but the following day after I told him it could be 12 months or more until they come the disappointment was palpable.
-
Oof... yeah, you want him to recover, but you also want the band to be able to re-book those dates with confidence.
