Title: Christmas Music
Post by: Zzzptm on December 04, 2018, 07:26:20 AM
I really do enjoy Christmastime and see it as an opportunity to renew my commitment to providing service and support. The exchange of gifts and commercialization to me is meh and I don't really go for that. Getting together with family, counting blessings, doing acts of charitable service, this is what I love about the season.

Which is why I love Johnny Cash's album, The Johnny Cash Family Christmas. It's heartfelt and warm, even if edged in sadness at times. Through it all is a joy from being together with family and friends during the holiday season. I love starting my Christmas off with that LP and then going from there.

Next album I reach for is Jethro Tull's Christmas Album. Tull is the perfect band for Christmas. The flute does it, man, it just does it.

And their album does a great job revisiting old classics and presenting new material - "Birthday Card at Christmas" is one of my latest faves.

I'm not really that into christmas music. Part from few isolated tracks.

But I do listen to some softer stuff usually around christmas.

Sarah Brightman, Melanie C, Blackmore's Night and stuff like that.

Also usually when Metal bands do versions of classic carols they more often than not suck big time...but there are some stellar ones out there too.

I love Christmas music. Especially songs by Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Perry Como and Andy Williams.
I also like most of the Boney M Christmas album - great stuff!!

One of my faves is Tony Bennett's "A Swingin' Christmas" with the Count Basie Orchestra. His version of "The Christmas Waltz" and "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm" are definitive for those tunes.

Yeah that TB and CB Christmas album is just fantastic. I have a copy in my Itunes, and I listen to it frequently this time of year.

I hit on it when I was going through a salsa thing a few years ago. "Canto a Borinquen" is one of my faves from it.

For a while, as I was building my Xmas collection, I'd go through used record stores for their Xmas rack...

... and that's where I found "Mambo Santa Mambo."

The 1950s were when Christmas pop music started to be a thing and in 1957, doo-wop and mambo were big things, soo...

Lol... I'm enjoying the James Brown Christmas albums of late, along with Huey "Piano" Smith's Christmas album.
