"Alt-Rock guitar god Jerry Cantrell has brought his friend Chris Wyse along and joined forces with Mike Bordin to make up Ozzy Osbournes new backing band on an album of covers of such classic Rock stalwarts as Beatles/Lennon, Stones, Bowie, Cream and The Animals. Even the more oddball classics of Arthur Browns Fire and King Crimsons 21st Century Schizoid Man gets their treatment."
Sounds great on paper, doesn't it?
So what the hell went wrong, then? These songs would sound great when farted out by a fat horse, so why didn't they on Ozzy's Under Cover?

Well I'd say because of Ozzy! :D
Seriously though, the horrible production combined with the fact that Ozzy's voice didn't fit most of the songs at all...and the fact that he was pretty out of it at the time anyways certainly shined through on the recording...which all kind of seemed half assed.
Fire was probably the only song Ozzy really sounded like he fitted on it.
Ozzy's great at doing Ozzy...but Ozzy trying to do other people's stuff...not so great.

Well, when he did In My Life live with Slash he proved he can absolutely do Lennon justice. But that's one where your point about production is true, the album version is ruined by that, Ozzys voice and the songs arrangement.
Another thing, i think, is despite there being great musicians, it don't feel like they gel as a band.
Which is really sad, i'd love a great Ozzy rendition of 21st Century Schizoid Man.

That's more than true as well.
There are a handful of albums out there that never EVER should have been made...and this is most certainly one of them.

Listening to him sing "Rocky Mountain Way."
Ouch. Sounds like the horses have left the stable, vocally speaking...
I'll go over to "Mississippi Queen"... proper guitar intro to it... I'm wondering if there's autotune in play on the vocals. At any rate, Ozzy's voice is too thin to do justice to the vocal. I pulled up a video of Leslie West in a wheelchair in 2016, and he's still got the pipes to do the vox.
Move on to "All the Young Dudes"... again, good guitar intro... and Ozzy's vocal works better on this song. But it sounds like they sampled Ian Hunter's vocal track heavily through the song for effects. WTF? Why do that?
I'm done with Ozzy's contractual obligation album.

^^^ Wattcha think about this, then?

^^^^^^
Ozzy sings it fine, but that type of song I have never cared for no matter who is singing it. I equate it to a lullaby. Blaaah!

Needs more Symptom of the Universe, I'm thinking...

That's the studio track dubbed over the live performance. Or is that an actual video release of the song?
