Title: Upcoming Local Event
Post by: Typhon on July 30, 2018, 11:03:55 AM
Each year, for 4 days, during the first week of August, my hometown hosts what is called the Portuguese Feast Of The Blessed Sacrament.  Because I am 100% Portuguese I usually check it out.  The first night they always have a rather popular headline act on the main stage.  In the past I have seen such bands as Supertramp, Blue Oyster Cult,  The Romantics, and Kansas just to name a few.  All of the entertainment is free.

This year the headline act is Queensryche.  I will be seeing them Thursday.  Does anyone know how many of the original band members are still together?  A friend of mine says the lead singer is gone.

Here is a link to the event, if anyone is interested.

A couple of decades ago I use to work in one of the many concession stands drawing beer all night, every night.  I have heard that some years they sold more beer at this feast than anywhere in the world except for Germany's Oktoberfest.

3 of 5 are still in the band, just not their original main songwriter or frontman.

Todd La Torre who replaced Geoff Tate is a great singer according to a bunch of Metalheads at another forum I frequent.
I have their first four albums - pretty good stuff if a bit inconsistent.
That being said I am sure they will put on a professional show as they are seasoned veterans. Tell us about it after.

Correct, although, Chris DeGarmo was the principal songwriter in Queensrryche.

Their releases with the new frontman have been some of their best work in years. Todd La Torre does Geoff Tate better than Goeff Tate does himself these days.

Thanks for the info, gentlemen. 8)  I own only 1 Queensryche cd - Empire.  The song Best I Can is my favorite.  I'm hoping they play it tonight.

Fabulous night at the Queensryche gig.  The song I was hoping to hear was played as the opening number! 8)  I videoed a couple of minutes of it, which was not easy, holding my camera above my head amidst wall-to-wall people.  My camera can zoom while recording, so perhaps you guys that know the band better than I do may be able to recognize the players.  Many of their songs I do not know, but even the ones I do know I could not tell it was a different singer.  It was a warm but very breezy night which made things comfortable.  Here is the link:

I think it's great that a band that's played to arenas remembers how to play smaller venues with the same passion. It's not the size of the gig that matters, but the spirit of the crowd.
