Title: Tungsten - Live In Lafthall'n
Post by: Billy Underdog on June 15, 2018, 09:45:46 PM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCtFalpRl6I

00:40 Come Together
04:39 Perfect Day
08:11 Gimmie Shelter
13:14 Sweet Moon
18:41 Hurt
23:33 Mom Is Home
24:56 Gammel-Thomas

Waaaay too low guitar & bass. Which also made my voice not quite angry enough. And lots of mistakes.
But, hey, it's tight, and people seem to like it.

Awesome job Billy! I like the way you guys grunge those songs up and make them your own. Cheers!!

Thanx, Axe. Hearing that from other musicians is always great.
Yeah, Grunge have been suggested by others too. I can live with that. (but don't tell the bassist, he's more into Mötley Crüe :P )
If you're doing covers, i see no point in trying to do them as close to the original as possible. I'd rather surprise people with what's possible to mix together.

Aha, That explains the Thunderbird bass! Is that a Marshall Valvestate that you're playing through?

Especially "Bad Moon Rising", you really made it your own song, you guys should put an EP together or something, I'd buy it!

Sure is. 120W stereo. A bit small for that setting, being a combo, and old as ol' Nicky himself, but it's got a nice fat overdrive for a transistor amp.

I was pretty excited when i figured out i could do Bad Moon over the Sweet Dreams riff. And finding out that Crazy Train fit in too was just a bonus.  :excited: That's also the only 100% original riff, in the chorus, though i'm pretty satisfied with the blackish riff i put over the chords for Hurt too.

Good stuff Billy. You certainly made those covers your own. For some reason I cam imagine you singing sludgy stuff like High on Fire.

Thanx, Jack. It's kinda funny how i found "my voice" for this band after having struggled with it for some time, because i'm by no means a singer. I just vocalize out of necessity.
We're using a wireless mike when rehearsing, and having left the mike on for about a week between rehearsals the battery was drained. And noone bothered going down to a store buying new ones, so i just tried to shout over the band. It worked esp. great on Gammel-Thomas.

The original, btw, goes like this:

Thank you very much, sir. That band (Vømmøl) was a popular folk-"rock" band in the 70's

Finally got a time to sit down and give it a listen... I was surprised it wasn't total death metal.

Don't worry about the voice, Billy. You got that Lemmy quality to it and it works. Heck, I could imagine you lads doing some Hawkwind tunes and having success with them.
