I'm thinking Russia wins this one. All other things being equal, Russia knows how to defeat the anti-doping protocols the best, so they'll have that edge, for sure.
:redcard:
Given how Putin went to extra lengths to get Russia's athletes to use PEDs for Sochi 2014 so that they'd win a record number of medals, I'd imagine he's got the Russian side as hopped up or more on PEDs so that they win this tournament. There's no spread of medals here, just one big cup.
Even though the doping protocols are all outside Russia, what are the chances that Putin's got the FSB doing a full press on the scientists at that location? Fake stories to plant to call into question any ruling against them?

That being said, I checked the Russian national team's record: it stinks. They're a likely candidate for early exit.
Well, time to watch... game on!

Russia should win this...but I think we won't be seeing a goal fiesta though...1-0 maybe or 2-1.

Well wasn't that! 1-0 already!
Also there are no penalty kick shootouts in the early stages.

Shows how rusty I am on my fussball... but I'm working from home, no meetings today, so I can ramp back up. :smug:
There's also Bluffball, which was made up on the show IT Crowd, but one site decided to run with... https://www.balls.ie/football/bluffball-updated-guide-379606

2-0 now. Russia is off to a happy opening match.

Saudis are completely out of their league here...even more so than I ever could have believed...

Think of them as a preview of the Qatari side that will be on deck in 2022...

3-0 now... Russia should enjoy this while it lasts. They play Egypt next, then Uruguay. I'm expecting Uruguay to win out of Group A, Russia or Egypt to be 2nd place.
-
4-0 at minute 91... A Saudi defender actually *ducked* aside to let the goal through.
Pretty sure a more skilled player would have headed it out of harm's way.
-
And now a penalty kick against the Saudi goal... 5-0.
It's like the Saudi team isn't even trying.
-
Okay so I was wrong...goal extravaganza it turned out to be!
Russia was much stronger than I thought...and KSA was a hell of a lot worse than I thought.

Maybe that Russia Stronk was due to Saudi weak... Russia is calculated to get past Egypt, but Uruguay looks to be the strongest side in Group A.

Indeed..Uruguay will go far most likely...unless Suarez fools himself a :redcard:

I'm not sure Russia will necessarily overcome Egypt. Russia is the lowest ranked team in the finals (even below the Saudi's), but home advantage will play its part. But if Mo Salah is fit he could run riot for Egypt all on his own! If he's not fit then Russia have a chance.
-
Tell you what, how about we all cheer for Egypt on the 19th?
-
The problem with Egypt is that they only have Mo Salah...sure he is fantastic but he is just one guy. The reason he was so fantastic with Liverpool was partly because he had such an amazing team backing him up...now that is most certainly not the case...
I firmly believe Egypt will be 3rd in this group.

True... but they have qualified, so the rest of the team can't be "that" rubbish! :)
And looking to next season, now that Liverpool have sorted out their defensive problems which plagued them for the first half of last season, I expect them to be much closer to Manchester City in the Premiership next season. I should probably disclose at this point that I am a Liverpool fan!

Salah with Egypt = Drogba with Ivory Coast . Great player in the middle of a weak team so this isn't enough for good results.
