I was curious as I received a Bluray player for my Bday and I was just wondering if I really should pick up a new TV that is at least 1080?
At the moment I am using a Flat Screen that is rated 780 though I must say that Bluray really looks nice on it with a big difference between them and DVDs. I am not a much on movies any more as most of the time I have music playing which is why I bought a TV with only 780. It was way cheaper especially at the time.

Could you check that number again? I don't think there is such a thing as 780. Here are the levels --> 480, 720, 1080

^^^ yes you are right - it is 720. I do not know why I thought it was 780??

Okay, and what is the size of the TV ? (the diagonal (in inches if you can))
-
I believe that it is a 32 inch. I must say that for what I payed for it - it is quite a good picture.

Then I would say 720p is fine. 1080 would only make a significant difference on large screens. A couple of other things that are important to know. Sit about (3 x the diagonal) away from the screen when watching your movie. This is generally accepted as the ideal distance. Connect your new player to the set with an HDMI cable. Let me know if you don't have one and I can direct you to a website that sells excellent equipment at very good prices. Usually half of what you would find in any store. Cable should be certified at 1.4 HEC. This is the latest and best version. If a store is selling one dirt cheap, it is because it is old and outdated.

Thanks for the info Ty!!! I am willing to live with it as DVD quality is what I am primarily used to anyway. I do have an HDMI cable that says it is rated for 4k and under. I got it at Walmart and it was the mid price version.
I can really tell the difference between a DVD and a Bluray so I take that as a good sign of the TVs capabilities.

^^Or just invest in a UHD 4K TV. Watching bluray movies and concerts on it is a whole new viewing experience.
Happy Birthday Thel :beerbang:

 Thank you Jack!!
A new 4K TV is not a financial commitment I want to take. I suppose if i stopped buying CDs (YEAH RIGHT :partay: )
for a few months I could probably afford one. Like I said though I am not much into watching movies like I use to be - it is mostly music 24/7.

Hey Thel I thought your Birthday was last week? Why does it say it's upcoming and on June 9th? Did I go early?

Yes, you did. His birthday is June 9th. The TV was an early present.

I just went back and reread the thread
Ah well, he's lucky! He'll get a double up on Birthday wishes now!

Yeah my Bday is the 9th and I actually got the Blu ray player as an early present, I have had the TV for a little while now.

My bad. I meant to say Bluray player. I was instead thinking of the 4K TV Jack was going to get you. :))

We just bought a 55" 4K Ultra smart TV for $225.00 at the Mart of Wal. It was as is, so that is why the price was cheap. Still figuring everything out on it. That is what the boy is for. I do know I need to get some surround sound.

Samsung

Samsung
Then that is a great price for a Samsung. I was afraid you bought one of the Chinese brands, which wouldn't be worth 225 cents.
-
Right? Trust me I kept asking are you sure this is the right price? So far so good.

Like you said, it was "as is", so that is why they dropped the price. It was probably a display model. All that would mean is that it was on all day for a year or so. But reviews say, and my own experience has been, that both Samsung and Panasonic last for many years. Plus, prices have come down on the bigger screens over time. I have a Samsung 52" that I bought 15 years ago for $2000. It still works perfectly.
