A special thread to remember the greatest singer that ever lived mr. RONNIE JAMES DIO...
Ronnie passed away on May 16th 2010....8 years ago....can't believe it's been that long....I remember that sunday like it was yesterday....my heart dropped and missed several beats and broke.
On this day there will be nothing but Ronnie's music playing.
So lets post some our favourite songs and videos here in remembrance and why not some memories and stories as well.
Truth is the world is a bit less of a place because Ronnie's not here....it lacks a one of a kind preformer, musician, song writer, singer, a very kind person and a whole heap of magic.
I'll kick things off with this fabulous live version of one of the best songs Ronnie ever did from one of the best albums he ever preformed on....
I didn't want to choose a version from Wacken or Radio City because everyone's seen them a 100 times, but this version comes from Kavarna Bulgaria during the Heaven & Hell tour of 2007...and the song ofcourse is FALLING OFF THE EDGE OF THE WORLD!
-
Here's a song that I wish RAINBOW would have done live but they never did...and it took DIO a whole 20 years to bring this one out but I am super glad that they did...I remember being at the 2nd or 3rd show of the Master Of The Moon Tour back in June of 2004 and when Ronnie introduced this song I nearly fell to my knees...what a bloody treat. That was the Tuska Open Air back in 2004 and this version comes from Philadelphia...Ronnie's in incredible voice and Craig Goldy's playing is just out of this world...
-
Here's a good one:

Oh cool! Haven't heard that one in a while! Forgot all about it!
Here's one of Black Sabbath's best songs:
and a fantastic prefromance from the Metal Masters Tour back in 2008!

Amazing how Dio pretty much only lost hair between the 70s and the 2000s... his voice kept very well.
Just wish Blackmore kept the fire burning, but, alas, his seasons definitely changed...

Today's a special day again to remember the Greatest singer in the history of music mr. RONNIE JAMES DIO who would be celebrating this birthday today...
But eventhough he is not with us anymore his music and legacy lives on...and on....and on.
Here's Ronnie preforming in Lahti Finland on the last ever tour with DIO back in 2008:
-
:wootwoot: Happy Bday to one of the greatest voices in Rock/Metal. May he rest in peace
-
Would've turned 76 and probably still performing today had he lived and singing his heart out giving 110% as he always did...
-
It feels unreal that it has really been 9 years since we lost Ronnie...
I was just going through some of my old pictures and came across couple of really nice ones I took at the Helsinki show back in 2009...

Love that angelic light shining upon him...
Let's take this day to remember the man and play his music LOUD just like he would have wanted.
Bless you Ronnie...You truly were one of a kind.
-
BRB, gonna crank on "Don't Talk to Strangers"... :headbanger:
-
This year I have been mostly listening to some deeper cuts from Ronnie's career...focusing especially on stuff that was either never or rarely played live...
Like this one from the stellar MAGICA album:
-
^^^^^^
Pretty good for a deep cut. 8)
-
Also this one:
The very last DIO song ever to be released...I remember when I first heard this back in 2009 I was in awe just how brilliant it was and now nearly 10 years later it hasn't lost a beat...still fantastic! Considering the incredibly long career Ronnie had the fact that he could still do a song as incredible as this is mind boggling to say the least.
It also makes me so so incredibly sad as Magica part II would have been one hell of an album if this song was any kind of an indication...Not to mention just how much the story meant to Ronnie himself...it pains me that he never got to finish it....
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the greatest singer that ever lived mr. RONNIE JAMES DIO!!!!
One of my all time favourite preformances of this song right here:
-
Would've been 77 Wow! I wonder if he'd be still performing today? He probably would be you know
-
Yeah, but with limited appearances and stuff like that. Old is old...
And did you know he was also a session player in New Jersey back in the 50's? He played the trumpet, so that got him a lot of gigs in studio backup bands. You can barely hear the trumpet on "My Boyfriend's Back", but that's RJD tooting away on it!
-
:partay: Happy Bday Ronnie!! You will always be in our hearts.
-
Yeah, but with limited appearances and stuff like that. Old is old...
McCartney is 77 and still touring playing 3 hour shows.

Quite true...however Metal is much harder to do than soft rock...and Ronnie never half assed on stage...
-
Yep but a lot of the Beatles and Wings songs are still quite demanding though and he's also lumping a bass around.
3 hrs on stage for a musician playing an instrument at 77 is quite incredible let alone singing as well.

Oh indeed. That's a mighty long show.
-
That's Paul McCartney, he's a lucky one. Bill Wyman had to retire from the Stones, John Lord had to bow out of DP, Bill Ward is his own special case, Tina Turner is retired, Bob Dylan is on the back burner, and Donald Fagen even takes it slow these days.
-
10 years already...
WOW!
Find it hard to believe really.
Today I'll be only listening to his stuff and thinking about all the times his music and lyrics touched me...
-
I remember waking up and reading the headline on the BBC website, shocking news even though I knew he was ill. 10 years... no time at all.
RIP Ronnie
-
Was great to see such an outpouring of love and respect from fans and fellow artists and bands on social media in the last 24hrs.
-
RJD's music and his "fan first" approach made him an icon. Combined with his philanthropic efforts, they made him a legend with a legacy that will reach far beyond today.
-
^^^^
Well said indeed!
And yes I too enjoyed the hell out of reading all the tributes from so many people...made me happy.
-
Man, ten years gone... miss you, Ronnie!
-
12 years....goddamn time flies...
And almost 13 years since I took this picture of the great man...

-
That anniversary crept up on me, I usually remember in advance.
He'd be 79 now and probably still singing flawlessly. Such a shame.
-
Missing the man, for sure.

I believe I'll be getting this one...
-
I will be getting this as well. Although 60 American dollars is pretty steep I would say. I do have the Deluxe that came out a few years ago and I love it.
-
HAPPY 80th BIRTHDAY to the greatest singer that ever lived mr. RONNIE JAMES DIO!!
Long live rock'n roll and long live Ronnie James Dio!
-
He would have been 80, and probably would still have had a fantastic voice. Can't believe he's been dead for so long. :(
Happy Birthday Ronnie and RIP

What a great read!
"Ronnie didn’t care if it was 80 people or 800,000. He would give his all, no matter what.” - Wendy Dio
-
13 Years today since we lost Ronnie...
I still remember getting the news like it was yesterday.
Gonna crank up some of his stuff today!
-
I agree, that's the right thing to be doing today.
-
13 years, wow! That's crazy how fast the time has flown.
Definitely listening to something of his later when I have time.
-
Dio day! It definitely does not seem like 13 years. What an iconic voice and stage presence!
-
Dio Day indeed. I played through a LOT of Dio material, from Elf to Rainbow to Black Sabbath to his solo career. Great stuff, thanks for the inspiration and reminder, Charger.
-
I went through the bonus discs on my new DE's...nothing I hadn't heard before but good to have them in official quality as well...
-
Made an interesting discovery online and I bought it!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RONNIE!
Time to crank up some DIO today!
-
Happy BD RJD!
-
Here's a great one for today!
-
81! Yes time to listen to some Dio.
-
Been listening to Dio in the weeks leading up so I’m a little Dio’d out atm.
I’ve often pondered if he was still with us today whether he’d still be performing. I just could never envisage him retiring.
-
Probably would push it to the end... which he pretty much *did* do... :)
-
Agreed. I think he would have continued to perform until he was physically incapable of providing fans with a good time. He always struck me as someone who really gave a shit about putting on a great show for the people who came to hear/see it, not simply to capitalize on his fame and rake in cash.
-
And remember, this is what he was up to in 1958. I think it's the most metal anyone got, that early. The technology didn't even support decent bass amps or fuzz pedals, but he still managed to cook up the heavy back in the late 50s.
-
I remember Ronnie saying that he would retire when he turned 80...but I'm sure if he could still preform he would do so occationally.
Sure thing is that we would have gotten a shit load of new music from him over the years though.
-
14 years but the music always lives on!!
Been listening to this one couple of times today...
Gotta say MAGICA II would have been an amazing album if this song was any indication! What a track!
-
I may give Angry Machines a spin later.
-
Been tied up w/ meetings most of the day, but did manage to sneak in Holy Diver. By accident, on the radio heading into work this morning!
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RONNIE!!!
 :abbath:
-
Happy Birthday indeed! He would have been 82 today, and probably still would have had a great voice if he was still with us.
-
Happy bday to Dio :headbanger:
-
Gone but not forgotten - HBD RJD!
-
15 years since we lost Ronnie! 15!!!! Can't bloody believe it! Where has the time gone?
Why not put on some Heaven & Hell stuff for today?
Here's a stellar preformance recorded by the legendary ROCKPALAST back in 2009!
-
I've seen a couple of reminders in various places. I can't believe it's been fifteen years!!!
-
He has a timeless quality and is one of the greatest singers of rock and metal
I miss him terribly 😔 and I hope wherever he is, he is happy
-
Truly one of the most iconic vocalists in any genre.
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Ronnie!!! Where ever you may rock and roll!
Here's something from 1985
-
Happy B-Day RJD!
First time I ever heard him was on the radio singing, "Man on the Silver Mountain," and I was blown away. It wasn't long before I realized he could sing the telephone book and make it rock!
-
"I'm a wheel, I'm a wheel, I can roll and can feel..."
-
Kind of neat use of AI imagery...
