I am going to definitely say Clutch right off the bat. I have not been able to listen to a full album of theirs. I know I should like them on paper but I just cant get into them. What bands are like that for you?
-
Do anyone really like Clutch any longer? Yeah, they were alright the first couple of listens, but i quickly grew tired, and my impression is that that's not just me...
I've got shitloads of bands i could mention, but a band that's relevant now (on this forum, amongst others) is Ghost. Emo-Pop dressed as... Clown Goth trying to come off as evilish? (Sorry, Tyr and JS, nothing against you personally... :) P&L )
-
I grant an awesomeness point to JS for not liking Clutch. There's one song of theirs I really dig, the rest... meh... They're supposed to be definitive stoner rock, but... meh...
I'll admit I'm also not a Kyuss fan. As soon as the singer opens his mouth, I'm done. Love the riffs, the beats, the everything but the singer. If I'm going to listen to classic desert rock, I'll reach for the Fu Manchu of the 1990s.
Radiohead is 100% not for me. People have tried to sneak Radiohead into my playlists and as soon as it comes up, my immediate reaction is to skip to the next track, then find out what band it was that I just skipped over. Invariably, it's Radiohead.
The Rolling Stones after 1967. They've got some good stuff, but a lot of meh, as well. I fear that if The Beatles hadn't broken up, I'd feel the same way about them, as well.
Like the Stones after '67, I like a few Van Halen songs here and there, but I don't consider them essential.
Those are my opening moves on this thread.
-
Thanks for the awesomeness point. I was wondering how those happened. Guess you have to say something awesome. Billy, I know you will never like Ghost but for me the singer is a great one and the star of the band. He has crafted some catchy tunes!

Regarding awesomeness, just click where it says [Awesome!] under an avatar and the point is awarded. If you want to keep it anonymous, that is by default. If you want to say why you clicked it, feel free to do so.

Thanks thats good to know. I am one awesome!

the first name coming in my mind is Pantera. Plus Korn , Rage Against The Machine ,unbearable rap side and left wing speech , Children of Bodom.
As well Exodus , followed by Testament, Anthrax. And so many others like Destruction , Blue Oyster Cult (love their artworks but I can't get in their stuff) , Slipknot (can't understand their success). Angel Witch , Pentagram , St Vitus. Can't stand Helloween, Running Wild, Gamma Ray.
Amon Amarth and all this folk or/and viking Metal styles.
Meshuggah .
Dont like Mayhem at all. Behemoth , Satyricon.
Sabaton (may be the worst thoses days), Dark Tranquility, At The Gates , Hammerfall, Iced Earth.
zzz quotes Radiohead. same here. Many talk about the similarities with Anathema with this band. Anathema release masterpieces album after album. Soooo better than Radiohead.
There must be others ...
Hey, few months ago, I happily quoted Kiss. I'm changing my mind , tbh .The more I discover their old material, the more I appreciate it.surprising.
EDIT : updated !!
PLJHRH (aka Peace, Love, Joy, Happiness, Respect and Health)

Man! Dream Theater is one I just can't get my head around. So incredibly cheesy and wanky...The singer sings like a pansy.
Anything symphonic metal is pure cheese. When I hear people getting their rocks off on bands like Nightwish, Rhapsody Of Fire, Sonata Arctica, Kamelot etc etc, I lose a little bit of faith in humanity.
Sorry in advance to Billy, Thel & TYR but most black metal is utter shite to my ears. Terrible instrumentation and atrocious vocals. Immortal, Darkthrone, Marduk, Emperor etc ... Arghh! I just wanna slap some sense into fans of that type of noise,,,Sorry, I can't even bring myself to call it music :smug:
I'll always depise Dimmu Borgir too. Besides the fact their music is downright horrible those fuckers made my tinnitus forever worse after seeing them at Soundwave one year with those ghastly drum triggers!

I agree so much that you're forgiven for not liking Darkthrone. And Immortal, Emperor and Dimmu Borgir is closer to this Power Metal than true Black Metal, so it's understandable you don't like those either. Much like me... :) (I do have some respect for Emperors first albums, but they started a trend the world could do without, the one that gave us DB, Cradle Of Filth and Keep Of Kalessin...)

He's basically IS the band, with hired guns, isn't he? Don't know about catchy, though... Catchy tunes usually don't make me go to sleep... :)
-
There are several...
Firstly Ghost...I just don't understand the popularity of this band...it has some very mild doom elements covered with cheesy poppy melodies..It's kinda like doom pop or something. Most certainly ain't metal, or even rock really...
Second U2...man I hate hate hate that band...and Bono is one major legue dick.
Dream Theater however does have some good tracks BUT I am not a huge fan of them by any means and their songs tend to be waaaay over long too. I have disagree with Jack about the singer though, he is pretty good at times.
Black / Death Metal is something I can never ever like...Venom is as black as I can ever go.
Led Zeppelin is an easy pick for me....never understood what the fuss was about...it's like a softcore version of Purple and Sabbath...
Five Finger Death Punch....man...why is this garbage so popular I cannot understand. The lyrics are childish fuck this fuck that motherfucker type of nonsense and the music is trying to be hard and heavy like Pantera but falls short in every way.
Those come from just the top of my head... I hate a lot of stuff so this list could be longer! :D

Pure moments of truth and happiness here !!! love all yours comments guys ! ;D :pub:
A big awesome point to JS ! :headbanger:

As Charger quotes U2, picking in this horrible Pop rock genre, I add:
1. Oasis. WTF with this band, really? this Gallagher, poor Lennon wannabe in this ridiculous difficult defecation pose during a whole concert. come on ...
2. Coldplay: All the disgusting part in this musical style is there. an endless-smile-on-my-beautiful-face singer and ultra-phoned piano melodies. Just marketed for the best students who tolerate having a little fun during exam revisions in June. yuck !!!!
Too bad, Devstorm isn't here. we would have laughed while reading his comments about Scorpions. :wootwoot:
-
Man I gotta say, all this hate for Ghost is making me sad but I totally understand. Charger, I like Doom Pop. That should be a genre.
One other band I am not too fond of is Guns N Roses. I cant say that I hate them or anything, but just never got into them ever. If they come on the radio or something I wont be totally repulsed, but I never actively wanted to listen to them. Kind of the same thing for Metallica. Give me Slayer any day of the week!
-
Black/Death/Folk/Nu metal all go off the rails for me, as does most Sludge. And Marilyn Manson.
In classical music, John Cage is a huge question mark for me. The guy essentially does random notes, how is that music? The answer is that it is not. Ligeti is a much better example of a composer that can put down notes that capture man's insecurities in a modern world.
Current American Country Music is basically Van Halen with a fiddle. Bleh.

Feel free to invite him.
Scorpions... Housewife Pop with electric guitars.

I don't even think it's right to call it "country"...

My distaste for Queensryche began from their first album and has not abated. I rather enjoyed their first EP, bought it in fact. Then the suckitude began, I traded the EP away, and haven't looked back.
-
Cannibal Corpse - a total shit band that is a disgrace to Death Metal.
Deftones - now I like quite a few so called Nu-Metal bands but these guys are boring as hell.
That is all I can think of off the top of my head - but I will look for more.
-
^^^ Surprised to see you participate in this thread at all... :P ;D
Come to think about it, i remember you adressing your distaste for CC when we were discussing Extreme Metal with Dozy and Sabbabbath...

  to both of these bands! ho-ho-horrible garbage both. I'd rather listen to cows having sex than either of those bands!

^^^ Couldn't agree more... And i've grown up on a farm. :)

Ted Nugent. I can listen to "Stranglehold" and "Great White Buffalo" and then the rest goes in the trash.

Not only does he make bad music, but he's also a bad person...

...
Ministry , far too repetitive .
Suicidal Tendencies . the voice of Mike Muir blokes me.
Def Leppard : I lost them after High 'n' Dry , since the arrival of Phil Collen.
Devin Townsend : I stopped everything after Terria album (2001). Far too many different but similar projects but less and less originality.

Hate Ministry - garbage fake industrial shit.
Have never really listened to Suicidal Tendencies so no comment on them.
I love every single particle of Def Leppard up to and including Hysteria. Pop Metal ? Sure!! But fucking great Pop Metal I say :partay:
Devin Townsend - have never really listened to his bands/projects but I hear good things about him - usually.

Everybody likes Black Sabbath, but I'm told I can't get into it, they're no longer taking applications for new singers at this time.

Well, I can take David Bowie off of this list for me. I found stuff of his that I'm not just OK with, I actually will select in the future.
