Post by: Charger on March 30, 2018, 03:37:15 AM
So we have what movie did you watch thread so I thought we'd need the same for tv...

So currently what tv shows are you watching? Sure feel free to post stuff from those netflix type of things too if you like...and if you are watching something from your dvd collection as well...

I'll post my current weekly list (all from mainstream tv networks as I don't have any netflix or such things) here:
Monday:
The Walking Dead (Season 8)
Veep (Season 4)

Tuesday:
NCIS: New Orleans (Season 4)

Wednesday:
Madame Secretary (Season 4)
Quantico (Season 2)
Zoo (Season 3)

Thursday:
Blindspot (Season 3)

Sunday:
Modern Family (Season 9)
Bull (Season 2)

X Files' final season just ended, as did the first season of The Gifted and the third season of Scorpion... Next week Season 2 of Legion starts...man that show is seriously Weird!

When ever I get a chance I am also watching Season 3 of Boston Legal on dvd...that show is still absolutely AWESOME.

With the seasons of "Gold Rush" and "The Curse of Oak Island" being over, not much. Mostly Raptor games, and even though baseball has started, the Blue Jays don't look all that shit hot. I'll watch the odd Twilight Zone rerun here and there, but not much else.

Without any spoilers (in case someone here hasn't seen it yet and wants to) what did you think of the finale? I had some mixed feelings...loved badass Mulder and William's blow-up power was cool as hell but I guess I was hoping for bit more answers than we actually got...but then again gotta remember this is The X Files we're talking about...that show never was about the answers! :D

Well , yes as we're talking about X-Files , this finale scene is not a finale one
I'm pretty sure this saga will not stop there. I understand that Gillian Anderson will probably be the hardest to convince to resign for another season in a few years. My god, during those two last shows, Gillian is so hot !!
Not a single word here about Reyes agent but , damned , WTF ?
I also read here and there that a spin-off could be developed from the newest member of the family. I hate this idea.
Clearly one of my top five farourite tv shows of all times !

Easy to say it has been one of my favourites too since the very beginning.

Yeah what happened with Reyes was bit shocking actually....same with Skinner...

Gillian said she won't return anymore...Carter said that he doesn't want to do more without her, he has come around a bit since but I have my doubts. But there is an obvious way now to write Scully out if needed...

No spinoffs please...

It would now be time for Chris to FINALLY resurrect the greatest show in tv history MILLENNIUM! Hell there was a nice easter egg on the finale already! :D

My shows... Survivor, Speechless, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Fresh Off the Boat, Amazing Race, Better Call Saul, Sneaky Pete, The Grand Tour, and if there's another Rick and Morty season, I'm on board for that.

Making a decision about getting into the Roseanne reboot.

Eagerly anticipating a new season for Israeli dramas False Flag, Prisoners of War, and Mossad 101. I'll get back into Fauda, on recommendation of a friend.

I'm back on Netflix (for a short while, atleast), so i'm doing some cathcing up.

Sherlock s4
Was waiting for it for a while, but haven't gotten around to it until now. Pretty nice wrap-up of the loose threads, Mary's past, Moriarty and the third Holmes sibling. The last episode was pretty epic. And it was such a nice wrap-up that though it's already written, i really hope there won't be a season 5. That would mean going more back to the "each episode on it's own" formula of the first two seasons instead of a story arching over several episodes. That's if they don't start a new story ofcourse, but i can't see what that would've been...

Happy!
Went through all 8 episodes yesterday/tonight. It's pretty fun quasi-psychedelic splatter crime black comedy, but also a nice satire about "plastic christmas".

And with all that blood and brain matter, the one and only profanity in the whole series was bleeped out. How American... :))

The Alienist
This was sold to me as being about the beginnings of psychiatry. Yeah, in some ways it is, but rather it's about using it in that one investigation, so in that regard it's more akin to Ripper Street and Copper in being a more typical period drama/crime, showing the beginnings of scientific investigation as a whole (be it fingerprinting, filing of information, forensics or in this case; psychiatry). But being a sucker for period drama/crime from the late 19th century it's just alright with me.

I just started watching a new series called Deep State. Started last Monday, second episode today. It's about an ex MI6 operative who is called back to service with fall pretences...

Seems kind of interesting, first episode was bit slow, but the promo for today's episode promises some more action...lets hope....I'm not expecting this to be an action mastepiece like the 24 was but a lot of comparisons have been made about Jack Bauer and the lead Max Easton here...so...

Billy if you have Netflix and haven't watched Narkos you need to do yourself a favour and ditch or put on hold those shows you're watching and dedicate some time to Narkos. I generally don't watch much tv series shows but Narkos is just so good and so goddam addictive you'd be doing yourself a serious disservice not watching it.

Just finished Season 3 of Relative Race.

Now I'm watching a series of lectures on Jewish history as told through biographies. Very interesting approach, I'm enjoying it.

Yeah, it's been recommended to me many times. It's just that i've always postponed it 'till i've had enough drugs myself so not to tease myself while in withdrawals. And when i've had enough i've forgotten for some reason... :P
But i guess i should probably check it out before i possibly enter rehab again, though. Thanx for the tip.

Just finished Cobra Kai,it was pretty good. It has rehash like SW Force Awakens, but it was more subtle and ending was unexpected and had a cliffhanger.

Fauda. Hell yes.

Instead of showing what happens when a plan comes together, this series looks at what happens when a plan falls apart and everyone's a loose cannon, dragging each other down to hell.

Just got pointed towards Peaky Blinders. Pretty cool with British 1920's gangsters for a change. Hell, every show that'd use Nick Cave - Red Right Hand as the theme would almost be worth it.
Only thing i'm kinda missing, as it's set in Birmingham, is the Brummie accent the way i love hearing our four musical heroes speak it.

Since all the shows that I watch are on a summer break now I've been diving into my dvd miniseries collection and been going through some gems from years past:

All pretty much as good as I remembered...but I must say Dune has aged the most I think...not just the effects but the overall feel too.

The one I'm watching is the Israeli series, Bnei Aruba. But first, I'm watching "A Very Secret Service" (Au service de la France). It's sort of like "Mad Men" doing espionage in France. Lots of dark humor, I'm loving it.

So we've had 3 episodes of Season 9 of THE WALKING DEAD.

I won't give out any spoilers (nor should anyone else obviously) but what I can say is that this has probably been the worst season opening in the show's history...

Virtually no action and considering these are Rick's final episodes his involvement has been scarce at best.

It is clear that they are setting up things that will take place this season but they are doing so way too slowly I'd say. The new showrunner isn't doing a great job I have to say.

Having fun with the new seasons of Speechless, Survivor: David vs Goliath, Fresh off the Boat, Modern Family, and The Conners (basically Roseanne without Roaseanne... it's actually a tighter show, now that the only actors in it are actors).

Waiting for the new seasons of Life in Pieces and Brooklyn Nine-Nine to kick off. New show The Kids Are All Right looks promising, the actress for the mom is great, hoping the rest of the season keeps up the fun of the premiere.

Better Call Saul was too short at only 10 episodes. MOAR, PLZ!

The Grand Tour is set to kick off a new season on Amazon. Also looking forward to a season 3 of Sneaky Pete, I love that show. Really tight acting and storytelling on that show.

Very busy professionally for a month, I completely forgot this tv show !!
I just watched the first 5 episodes in a row last night. Not so bad.
Inconcistency : By remaining the most cautious on spoilers, how can Rick fail in the river when he has already crossed the bridge and is thrown away from the water? simply impossible.

Everyone in my family was laughing hard all the way through them. The more you know about the inside jokes they build in, the funnier the documentary shorts become. These are well done and hilarious.

 Johnny Fever is great and the whole cast brought comedy and solid acting for a TV show.

I watched the same one yesterday. Good episode! And not one but TWO Star Trek alumnae! The fantastic Robert Picardo and John Billingsley!

I was pretty shocked about Alara's leaving actually...always liked her.

Watching "Little Lunch" on Netflix. It's an Australian show about kids at school. It's hilarious, innocent, and not at all cloying or irritating the way Disney makes kids act.

I'm a massive fan of the tv show.
I'm still scared about Drogon and Rhaegal 's fate since the sad destiny of their brother Viserion. The arrival of Jaime in Wintefell is full of promises...
Agreed about these important informations. The train of consequences will be amazing .

Game Of Thrones never really grabbed me...I did try with the first few episodes when it started but the way all the characters were done to be real unlikeable assholes turned me off almost instantly.

I don't have a problem with having a really unlikeable bad guy that's actually usually great but when all the "good" guys are such as well it just doesn't work.

Honestly gotta say I never ever NEVER in a million years would have thought that show would become so big...I was sure it was a one season hit and miss.

There's a big audience for good fantasy - just look at the success of the Middle Earth trilogies - but it is horses for courses, it is not going to appeal to everyone. it is darker in tone which would alienate the unicorns/fairy princess sector!

But I would have to disagree that all the characters are unlikeable, some are likeable but have to make hard choices for the greater good.

I watched the first episodes because of the buzz preceding the tv show. I dropped everything after 3 or 4 episodes. A few months later, I did a second test that this time, triggered everything.
Best moments : Durlieu, episode 8 of Season 5 and this incredible battle between the Sauvageons and the Living dead Army is worthy of Lord of the Rings. Ditto for episode 4 of season 7 with this fantastic attack of the Dragons against the Lannister army.
I was also very touched by the last episode of Season 7. It took me several days to recover. Really.
My favorite characters: Dragons, Tyrion, Cercei Lannister, Arya, Jon Snow, Ned Stark, Jaime Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, Sandor Clegane, Petyr Baelish, Melisandre, Bronn, Sansa, Tormund, Varys, Margaery Tyrell, Tywin Lannister, Davos Seaworth and Ramsay Bolton, Jorah Mormont, Yara Greyjoy and Euron Greyjoy.
The main music theme during this wonderful animated castles opening credits.
Special mention to Ellaria Sand, Hodor, Missandei and Gray Worm.
Don't like Bran, Theon Greyjoy, Sam, Robb Stark, Viserys Targaryen, Grand Mestre Pycelle, Brienne of Tarth and The Three Eyed Raven.
Pure Hate to Joffrey Baratheon, The High Sparrow, Qyburn and Night King.

the best tv show so far .

I have also been pondering should I give it another try...

I mean I do like the subject matter, but the characters were such a turn off...

I don't know maybe some day. I have heard that after the slow first season and iffy second season things got much better indeed with the dragons and everything...

The key word here, for me, being "fantasy".  Never been much of a fan of it.  I get much more interested in series depicting real human history.  That being said, I did see the first 3 seasons of GOT, because a friend gave them to me recorded on a hard drive.  I never ask him for the rest.

I 've never seen another TV show have an audience that has grown steadily from the beginning and that over 8 seasons.
It is not a coincidence . The seasons are, one after another, better than the previous ones.
Apart from X Files, I had never seen that.

a wait of 7 seasons for that? WTF 1

Palme d' Or  of acting for Cercei! she remains standing still since the 3 episodes when she appears in this last season !! WTF 2

KDC, I don't know if you follow the theories circulating on the net, but do you believe this hypothesis to see an armored Drogon attacked King's landing and Euron Greyjoys boats ?
A return of Rhaegal is also envisaged (though very unlikely).
All these theories have been proposed following the trailer of episode 5 showing Euron blaming while looking towards the sun while hearing one (more?) Howls of dragon(s).

Can't wait.

I want to see the back of Euron Greyjoy more than I want to see the back or Cersei!!

I'm not sure there is any coming back for Rhaegal... but in GoT who knows!

Some sort of armour for Drogon would be sensible, it is very vulnerable against those balista.

Jamie Lannister (Nikolai Coster-Waldau) had his hand cut off in (I think) series 3 and since then has had a golden prosphetic hand. There are scenes where he learns to use a sword with his left hand but he is never that great with it. But his hand did not grow back at any point. There is very little magic in the series, although another character was brought back from the dead.

I saw the fifth episode last night . My God, madness, mass killing, revenge,  death and fire everywhere.
I don'tt want to divulge too many things but it's sad to see Daenerys falling into melancholy and paranoia. Jon Snow continues to be inconsistent in this final season. Strange. Tyrion seems to be best placed to be crowned.
Incredible episode, despite few improbabilities from the last to this one.

I think it's only you and I who are watching it, but if I'm wrong anyone else should stop reading now as there will be

!!!!SPOILERS!!!!

This is the first episode this season where I've felt it didn't quite work for me. I know Deanerys was pissed off, but it was with Cersei, Euron, her advisors and to a lesser extent her army. Yes, destroy the palace, but how does destoying everything else in the city including the innocent citizens make any sense whatsoever even if she is derranged.

I think the problem with Jon Snow is he's conflicted between his love for her, his disgust at her actions and wanting to do the right thing which will upset Deanerys... you don't want to upset Deanerys. Tyrion is probably no longer on her side and will help to overthrow her. Arya has probably added Deanerys to her "list".

A video on IMDb today suggests that Jon, Tyrion and Arya will probably unite to defeat her, suggesting that Arya may try to kill Drogon at which point Deanerys is helpless.

The fight between The Hound and The Mountain was pretty good, I can't help thinking the fight between Euron and Jamie should have been short and 1-sided in Euron's favour, and Cersei's death was a little unsatisfactory. Actually apart from my big gripe about Deanerys's actions I really enjoyed the episode.

Re. destroy the entire city, including innocent citizens - that stuff didn't have to make sense. Sacking cities like that happened quite often in history. Remember that Martin's inspiration for the series started with the War of the Roses in England and all this stuff falls into place.

Well.... personally I have always been on the side of Daenerys from the beginning. Her journey was so long, painful, full of sacrifices and revelations.
considering her extreme pain accumulated from day to day since his arrival on Westeros: Cercei's Betrayal after the Council following the battle against the undead, tragic loss of 2 Dragons, Aborted Love with Jon, violent loss of Missadei, little or no Recognition of the Stark in response to her help to save Winterfell, Varys' betrayal, she could only react that way, backed by Missandei's last wish.
The destruction of Kings Landing was perhaps useless but inevitable.
The final duel of the enemy brothers Clegane lacked epic breath and space. This duel on the stairs deserved better. Ditto for this curious fight between Jaime and Euron coming out of the water after several hundred meters of swimming. Just at the right time and in the right place.
Cercei has always seemed completely inert since the beginning of this season. Too bad.
Guessing Daenerys' final fight against all the others, it's hard to understand Arya because the young queen has finished eliminating the last names on her list and has never shown philanthropy until now. And yet, indeed, she will play a role in the disappearance of the Mother of Dragons. I tend to think that Drogon will let himself die once his dead mistress, as he almost did with his brother Rhaegal shortly after they arrived in the North. Something very sad to watch, as Sophie Turner has announced.
In the end, Tyrion played the game very well.
Amazing tv show !!

I know what you mean, I agtee that sometimes people mix fan theories with what will actually happen.

I think a one-off series with Arya's adventures in the West might be intriguing. I'm not sure how much mileage you might get from the other characters in spin-offs. But I do want to see the prequel series when it comes out (I think) next year.

Finished off season 3 of Stranger Things, think I'll go back and watch the first two seasons, lol. :)

Also finished both seasons of The Tick on Amazon, disappointed it did not get renewed for a third season, hope they can sell it to another provider.

Right now, my wife and I are mid-way through season two of False Flag on Hulu. Excellent writing on this series, incredibly tight stories, and all the fights are over in 3 seconds because Krav Maga is real and it works and Israelis know that any fight that takes longer than 3 seconds means neither person really knows how to fight.

There's a new series of the celebrity ancestry show Who Do You Think You Are? starting this week (the UK original not one of the many international remakes). I only mention it because a) for a change I actual know who most of the celebs in this series are! and b) Sharon Osbourne appears in one of the episodes. While I'm not a fan of hers, her ancestors might be an interesting bunch, I suspect it will go back much further than Don Arden!

Season 2 has just finished. Although slightly worse than the first season, still 7 episodes brilliantly performed with a high-class cast.

the spin-off of Grey's Anatomy. Very nice to watch with a choice of 5 milf all more beautiful than the others. my preference goes to KaDee Strickland (she comes from another planet, for sure), Caterina Scorsone (same as KaDee), Audra McDonald (Hot as Hell) and Amy Brenneman (A thousand times sexier than in Heat).
Stories ? ah , same as the others medical tv shows I imagine , I don't know ...  :)

Apparently the CW Network is coming out with a Batwoman show, but the reactions to the trailer have been heavily negative.  I guess it is infested with feminist agenda thinking.

True Detective season 2.

Despite the fact that season 1 is and will remain untouchable, this season 2 is top quality, describing the greedy and sordid relations between the mafia and local elected officials, always ready for anything for their personal enrichment to the detriment of the poorest. Nothing stop them.
Brilliant casting and acting , especially Vince Vaughn.

I'm 3 episodes into watching Chernobyl, the fact based drama surrounding the events of the nuclear accident in 1986. It stars Jared Harris, Stelan Skarsgard, Emily Watson and Jessie Buckley.

While I knew the basics of what happened, I think this drama has opened my eyes as to quite how close the world came to a disaster which might have sent much of the Northern hemisphere back to the stone age!!

The depiction of the effects of radiation on the workers, firemen and others is quite graphic, as is the incompetence of career politicians who can't accept the facts for what they are. The protrayal of the events has been condemned by the Russians... apparently they are going to make their own version... I won't waste my time watching that one!

Anyway, I can't wait for the second disk to turn up!! 10/10 so far.

Started on "The Wrong Mans" on Hulu. If you like James Corden, you'll love this series. Basically, two bumblers get caught up in an expanding web of lies, crime, and intrigue. Great fun, loads of ironic twists, and everything works out just right... until it doesn't.

Going to finish The Terror today, it's got an incredible cast and a story well told.

Working through the great BBC series Porridge, only saw a few episodes before and loved them. Netflix has the series, and I got up to the middle of season 2 on my flight back from the UK.

Porrideg is one of my all time favourite sit-coms, Ronnie Barker at his best as the serial criminal banged up for 5 years, and the rest of the cast are phenominal too. All set within the walls of Slade Prison. I think there's less than 30 episodes all told plus a spin off film (which was quite good too). There was a spin off series called Going Straight when he gets released but it wasn't so good, but not actually bad.

3 episodes in to the new adaptation of WAR OF THE WORLDS.

Very different from the others this one, but still good though and the atmosphere is GREAT...the suspense is well done...but I do miss the tripods...but I do understand that from a budget stand point the new types of sentinels are much more affordable...and they still are scary though.

Gabriel Byrne once again is EXCELLENT.

3 seasons of 6 episodes each, plus 2 Xmas specials is what Netflix have got. What draws me in most is the underlying humanity of all the characters. We don't get much cardboard in terms of who's on the series. Each one comes with a story. Barker's Fletcher is a master class in character acting. That one episode where he meets the black Scotsman, where he goes from jovial to hard in a split instant, then back to making peace, was absolutely riveting. In the "Quiet Night In" episode, there was such a sadness and a dignity in the discussion, it won me over to wanting to see the whole of the series.

6 Episodes total. Although I do not know if there will be a season 2 or will it play out the whole story on season 1...it does move on bit slow so I don't know, then again we all know how the story ends so if they stay true to that an abrupt ending might be in store.

Yeah we have a national goverment owned tv network called YLE and we have to pay tax for it. It used to be something called TV licence which every person who owned a tv had to pay...now it's a national tax...little over a 100€ a year.

As far as the netflix shows go...so far I haven't really seen anything that would make me go YEAH I want to pay 10€ a month for it. Those Marvel shows were pretty lame, I bought the dvd boxset for Hemlock Grove and that wasn't very good either.

Honestly the only show that is of some interest is Mindhunter...from what I've heard...

I've never paid for any TV viewing in my life (and never will).  I have 3 over-the-air antennas at my house.  1 on the roof and 2 in the attic.  I pickup approximately 25 to 30 channels for free.  All 4 major networks plus PBS and a number of independents.

A close friend of mine subscribes to that Netflix stuff.  I have watched a couple of series, which were not broadcast OTA, that I posted earlier in this thread.  He gives them to me on a flash drive.  I can get from him any series or movie.  If he does not already have it, then he gets it for me upon request.  But even I did not have access to this material through my friend, I would not pay for this stuff.  My local library gets pretty much any movie or TV series I want.  Paying for these things seems foolish.

Here is where I take an opposite view to Typhon's. Shock, amazement, I know... Typhon and Z disagreeing??? :smug:

Netflix has a substantial number of foreign series, stuff I just can't get on any US channel. Israeli, French, German, Russian, Polish, Indian, Mexican, and Irish - there's some great stuff out there and I can't get it any other way legally. Hulu is cheap, and will stream a few shows I like to watch, and I just finished the excellent first season of "The Terror" on it.

Amazon Prime pretty much goes with Amazon Prime Video, so if I'm already paying for fast delivery, I get some shows as a thank-you is how I see it.

Netflix is also the best for having material available for downloading and viewing later. As a frequent traveler, that's a huge plus. It's also available in other countries, while Hulu and Amazon both have issues with shows/films not being available for viewing in different parts of the world.

Not to mention it cost less than 50 cents a day to subscribe.
So, less than $15 a month.   That's 2 dinners for me.
Or about a coffee a week  ;)

Its not actually available in the UK yet! When it does launch it will have contect from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 the last two are recent additions, I don't know if you get them in the US yet. You can't download the content to watch off line at the moment.

Channel 4 content would be great.

And so would availability of the really old stuff like The Goodies. I know time may not have been kind to old videos, but there are some series that I'd love to see again.

Just started watching Mad Men. Only on the 2nd episode, and I'm wondering if I'm going to catch lung cancer from watching all the smoking!

So far so good. I'm interested in how it portrays social and sexual conflicts and mores, and I'm expecting to see changes with each season. Characters are intriguing and I'm investing in them to see how they come out.

My favorite 70s detective show is The Rockford Files. Definitely one of the best theme songs of any of those shows. :)

But, yes, there was a certain art in spinning a tale that kept our interest without having to resort to shock violence or sex. All they had was plot, character, and dialogue, and the writers made them all work just fine.

Always loved Columbo myself too!

Although every episode was basically exactly the same it was still captivating...pretty much thanks to Peter Falk and the guest star killer.

I also watched Rockford Files but honestly don't remember much about it anymore...that was almost 30 years ago...

Rockford Files are worth a re-visit, the writing was great all the way through. There weren't any crucial multi-episode story arcs or anything, so they can be watched in any order. The episodes with Isaac Hayes and Tom Selleck are some of the best in the series.

Well, I'm *not* watching Netflix' "Medical Police". It got way too silly for my wife about 10 minutes before it got way too crude for both of us. We liked the premise as a send-up of cop/medical shows, but it went way off the rails.

Yes you are right Charger, the new episodes don't do it for me, the old cast was the best, it kind of turned into a soap opera with the new episodes, it had that air about them, later on.

Yes the whole franchise was good, Law & Order CI was another favorite with Vincent D'onofrio, that guy was A+ actor.

Finishing up on Roman Empire, getting revved up on Better Call Saul season 5.

In this season, BCS is moving from the slow-burn of earlier seasons and is getting closer to the pace of Breaking Bad. The DEA agents from BB turn up, so you know that it's about to be decision time on what to do with the characters you don't see in Breaking Bad... and I think more than a few are gonna die.

That being said, only Saul Goodman makes it out alive from both BCS and BB... ouch...

Been watching/catching up on quite a few shows during this self-isolation period that have been recommended to me in the last few months. Started with Season 1 and 2 of Mr Inbetween, an Australian black comedy crime drama which follows the escapades of a deadpan Standover/Hit man who leads two very different lives. Absolutely loved this series, it’s very funny and quite confronting. I think it’s available on FX in the US but not sure where elsewhere for the rest of the world but check it  out if you can.

Also watched the 3 part doco on Netflix called Don’t F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer Won’t give too much away accept to say it was a riveting watch and highly recommend.

The other one I’ve started watching is Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness which is also on Netflix. A true crime documentary series about a conservationists that runs a big cat rescue sanctuary and her war on Big Cat collectors and their private roadside zoo’s in the US. It’s a very strange watch with a lot of strange characters. Started out ok but have become bored of it after 3 episodes and not sure if it’s gonna hold my interest for much longer despite a lot of people raving about it.

I rang up last week to downgrade/cut cost, even ditch my pay tv all together. I’m not under any contract so could do what I liked with it. The primary reason I have subscription tv it is for sport and seeing their is no world sport on at the moment I thought I’d temporarily cut that first. Anyhow I told the subscription operator that I was out of work and struggling to make ends meet and that I was thinking of ditching it altogether.  I also have 2 boxes, one in the lounge and one in the bedroom which gets the most use.

Anyhow by the end of the call, I ended up slashing my monthly bill from $103 to $49, losing sport but adding entertainment to go with movies, news and doco’s while keeping both boxes, on top of that I was given 5 new release movie rentals. Seems like someone was desperate to keep me  :D

I've just cancelled my Netflix (probably reinstate it in due course), because I'm watching Disney+ when I watch something on streaming. There is stuff to watch on Netflix I just don't feel an urgent  need to watch it now... the last time I cancelled it I had signed up again within two months because they released a couple of things that looked interesting.

: show
The ending was great, I would have been happy with just about any direction it could have gone in. They really did it well, a very satisfying tribute to friendship.

I was very happy with how the writers for Star Trek are now able to explore more human failings than before. Drug addiction, family breakup, real things like that get into the plot of this series, and it is not afraid to end a story arc without tying a pretty bow on it.

Indeed! That was the whole premise of the Original Series. It took current events and troubles of the 60s and put them in an outer space future environment.

Well, not drug addiction. When Harlan Ellison submitted his script "All Our Tomorrows", he had a drug dealer subplot that Roddenberry converted into McCoy having an accidental overdose. Roddenberry had a firm vision of his future and that simply wasn't in it, at least not on a Star Fleet vessel.

Well, not drug addiction.

You implied that Star Trek has not dealt with drug addiction until Picard. What about the The Jem'Hadar from Deep Space Nine? Or the early TNG episode with the one planet addicted to a drug that they think cures them from a disease that they get from the other drug dealing planet? Sorry but I cannot remember the episode name at the moment.

DS9 would be post-Roddenberry, but I think the 21st show would be when Roddenberry was at the helm of TNG... I'd be guessing his motives, but that guess would be that with the drugs *off* the Enterprise, he could let that pass.

Do you get that in the US? I watch it all the time (the old series are repeated regularly on the channel called Dave!)

We do when kindly pirates upload them to YouTube. :D

I watched the 9 seasons in a raw.
Very good law tv show where the action takes place in a business law firm in New York.
Great acting by Gina Torres, Rick Hoffman and Gabriel Macht , with very convoluted but captivating judicial scenarios. I didn't know anything about Meghan Markle's artistic career before. My God, what a beauty !! Two love stories are developed on different rhythms. Small but important detail for the male audience: the show very often consists of showing very beautiful women embellished in dresses of great designers with the main purpose of strolling in the hallways of the cabinet on possible highest heels. Special mention to Amanda Schull and Abigail Leigh Spencer. Even the smallest extras are entitled to this treatment. Gorgeous !

I'm on season 2 of Poirot now...man I love these.

I think Sherlock Holmes is coming next...with the one and only Jeremy Brett ofcourse.

I've started up on Season One of the Dick Van Dyke show. Aside from the awful pilot, this show was running on all cylinders from the start. The humanity of the comedy I find to be timeless. Also hilarious.

This was a lot better than I remember it being. Not half as good as the great novel, this still does a commendable job and at times is superb. A great cast and a screenplay written by King make this a 'mini-series' to cherish.

The Same Sky (2017)
"It's set during the 1970s in West Germany, depicting the Cold War. It portrays the fate of two families on either side of the Berlin Wall. The story revolves around the relationship between an East German "Romeo" agent – a spy who uses seduction as a way to unearth secrets — and his female target in the West."
with the great Sofia Helin from "The Bridge" tv show.

The very first episode of season 1 set in the US is the best thing the guys ever did. Much of the rest of the series was a mixture of solid to mediocre. Season 2 and onward were more successful IMO

Only watched two so far and I have to say the first one was EXCELLENT and the second one was a drop in quality yes...the special forces training bit was fun at first but it got bit boring after the 10th restart! :D

Tonight I'll be watching few more again.

Noticed that couple of shows were taken off the list at Prime that I wanted to see...Unidentified and Project Blue Book weren't on the lists anymore, and I think they were there few months ago.

But Star Trek Picard is on there ovbivously which will be next on the list...and also spotted some good old shows including FARSCAPE!!!! which was a real treat as I missed that on back when it aired so I'll be checking that one out at some point too...

Sad that the free trial time was reduced to 7 days... :(
And that you can't control the picture quality...so with my around 20mb/s internet it gets pretty blurry at times...but that's not a big deal...just annoying at times.
Title: Re: What TV shows are you currently watching?

Because I didn't want ads during Picard, I signed up for CBS All Access. If you sign up separately and not through Amazon, you get more shows that way. I don't know if it's the same deal outside of the USA, but that's how we're rollin' in the States. Amazing Race had a GREAT season this year, and that was nice to be able to watch totally without commercials. Given that I work from home, I wasn't worried about spoilers.

HOWEVER, I have a bone to pick with Google for suggesting news about the Great British Bake-Off that announced the winner BEFORE I could see the final episode on Netflix. Ya know Google, ya need to tune your algorithms to NOT serve up spoilers like that. I still enjoyed the episode, but, yeah, kinda lacked the tension at the end and the fun of trying to see if my call on the winner matched the judges'.

As far as I can see you need to be in US for CBS All Access...

But Amazon is just fine..also their shows don't seem to have any adds anyways.

And I'm carrying on with my Grand Tour. Episode 7 is just about to start. I was bit disappointed with episode 6...I was hoping bit more Finnish stuff and maybe that they'd have a proper race against santa's flying raindeer or something...but watching Jeremy on those rocket roller scates (or what ever the heck they were called) almost made up for that though!

If the Amazon show is through IMDB, there will be ads in the middle of the show. Not always, but when it happens, it's usually about 5 seconds too soon for the proper ad break moment.

Excellent tv show.
It's gaining in power and already seems to be cult. the last scene of the last episode is so unexpected and successful. Just wow !!! The third season is in pre-production. We understand that a spin-off is already in the works with "The Book of Bobo Fett", still with Temuera Derek Morrison and the beautiful Ming-Na.The first season should be released at the end of 2021, a few months before the third season of The Mandalorian .

Agree, that final scene was such great surprise as has been the whole show. My expectations weren’t very high given what Disney has done with the franchise but having Jon Favreau at the helm along with Dave Filoni and great cast & characters has been a godsend and really invigorated my love for Star Wars.

And without giving anything away, what you mentioned about the spin off was what I was referring to as having much to look forward to.

I think one of the reasons The Mandalorian works so well whereas the recent films have been devisive, is that each episode has a simple premise, there are no multiple story arcs in the same episode, there's a limited number of characters and there's not a lot of "space opera"!

Other helps: inspiration from the Lone Wolf and Cub manga series and Jon Favreau, who's a storyteller in his movies, not a special effects addict.

So 6 episodes into Star Trek Picard...and I have to say I am both disappointed and amazed at the same time.

The old Star Trek spirit is all but gone from this too sadly...but considering none of the original Star Trek people were involved it's not all that surprising and I was prepared for that.

The visuals are great though and Sir Patrick Stewart does his best to maintain the legacy of his iconic character and manages to do so with ease ofcourse.

The storyline itself is quite interesting but the new writers just have completely forgotten what Star Trek was all about. There's too much violence, too many traitors, too much changes to the races especially the romulans...and ofcourse the language. Cursing on a Star Trek!??! That would have NEVER EVER have flown with Gene...he was much against that kind of stuff as the society he created was above that.

What this show should have needed was two people...Mr. Brannon Braga and Mr. Ronald D Moore. They knew what Star Trek was all about...and they would have never allowed this many massive changes.

But again Sir Patrick...what an amazing preformance and he still manages to capture the essence of Picard even after all these years. It is just such a damn shame that the writers knew nothing about Star Trek....the same affliction that plagued the dreaful remake movies and the horrible Discovery.

Both Picard and Sir Patrick would have deserved better. But it is still a thrill and a treat to see him on the screen and I have to admit in the first episodes I got bit teary eyed as well...such great preformance...and that "Engage" line...wonderful.

I have to say I am rather pleased though that the covid thing prevented another season of this...I would have loved to see more Picard but not like this...not in this faux-Star Trek universe.

Best western series of all time! What a fantastic cast of characters that one has...Ian McShane is beyond suberb.

I think I ought to watch that again too.

I remember back in the day when it aired I once played a game that I had a shot of whisky everytime Swearengen took one...had one hell of a hangover the next day...didn't do that again. :D

I found an old classic sci-fi show from Amazon Prime I missed back when it aired...

FARSCAPE

Few episodes in an it sure is an odd one but I love all the funky looking alien races on that one...bit on the low budget side though compared to Star Trek or Stargate which aired at the same time but still very enjoyable.

^^^ I always found Farscape to be a bit of a mixed bag in terms of the quality of the writing. I did like it for the most part and I would agree that it was not on the same budget as Star Trek. If memory serves it is the Jim Henson company doing many of the characters.

(https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/f4/Transformer_-_War_for_Cybertron_Trilogy_Logo.jpeg/220px-Transformer_-_War_for_Cybertron_Trilogy_Logo.jpeg)

I bought a subscription to Netflix just to see this and though it is getting mixed reviews I like what I have seen so far. Eleven episodes in and I am getting something both a child and adult can enjoy. Definitely an interesting and fascinating take on the Transformer story with some well written original angles. I have also been collecting this lineup of Transformer toys and the figures are incredible especially considering their price point. I am a very happy fan and this has almost made up for the dubious execution on the live action films.

I'm about 10 episodes in and yes I have to agree...there have been some absolutely stellar episodes and some that haven't been that great...but no really bad episodes either yet which is nice.

All in all I'd say that this is done with a much lighter touch than Star Trek or even Stargate as there is no real sinister back story to speak of. Which isn't a bad thing. The funky looking aliens is without a doubt the best part of the show...

I really didn't think much of episode 1, episode 2 was little better, but both episodes had strange occurances which indicated that more was going on than appeared on the surface. It's got a pretty strong The Wire vibe to it...single case for the season with lots of little side plots and character devopment.
Much of the same writers and crew as The Wire had too..But the focus is always strongly with Bosch not quite so divided as it was on The Wire. So this is bit easier to follow for sure.
Realism is also a pretty big factor...this features a lot of even grinding police work...but it also has a good fair share of humor in it...most of it pitch black but still...and some great dialogue.

Breaking Bad, for me, is the story of a man who chooses to become selfish. He has a midlife crisis at the same time he's diagnosed with cancer, but even before the cancer diagnosis, he was thinking of leaving Skyler for meth cooking. So it's about infidelity, at its core.

Here we are , since early March, The Walking Dead season 10 is back for the final episodes. Great !
First of all, Negan and Maggie finally face to face ...

The new episodes have been bit different. Bit more drama oriented...not much action, more character building and ofcourse the first one was a Maggie one which was to be expected...not great but not bad either...

This week's Darryl one on the other hand was pretty good...even less action but Reedus is just such a great actor it's brilliant to follow him and he does so much with so little.

Next one should be a Negan one...including some back ground on him and his wife Lucille...which ought to be interesting...But honestly I do hope they actually get the story moving a bit as well and finally show us what happened with Eugine and Ezikiel...that was the big cliffhanger after all...

Top Gear.

Just out of curiosity does anyone like anything about the show since Clarkson, May and Hammond left? Has anyone even watched an episode? The original replacements of Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc didn't work at all. The current line-up of Chris Harris, Paddy McGuinness and Andrew Flintoff is better but still well short of the mark.

BTW, RIP Sabine Schmitz, queen of the Nurbergring

Yeah, I have given it a fair try, but have stuck with The Grand Tour. I will say that I love watching James May's stuff on YouTube, especially when he says "cheese." :smug:

Seriously, I'm glad that Amazon and FoodTribe give James May ample time to go on and on and on the way he does, because I really do find it all fascinating, just not appropriate for a show about idiots getting their cars stuck in mud. :)

And, yes, I felt a real pang of sadness to read of Sabine's passing. She was magical to watch as she made EVERYTHING fast, and with a laugh!

In other TV news, my wife and I like to watch a little light comedy before going to sleep. Something to relax, soothe nerves, whatever. Light laughs... so we started watching Modern Family from the start. We only got into it during the last 2 seasons, so there's a ton of stuff we haven't watched yet.

It's hilarious and I don't get punched in the shoulder nearly as often as I did when we watched Everybody Loves Raymond... :D

Terrible show, I wanted to watch all 6 episodes. all the trends of the moment are there:
Cancel and woke culture with Captain America One (I say no more, I do not want to spoil ...) and the final speech of the Falcon dripping with this cultural slump that is becoming the norm everywhere.
Systematic self-flagellation with evil white racists and colonialists. A real plague these guys. we had a Captain I, but who badly digested his return to quantum space-time by getting a little older at the end of Endgame, then Captain II (yes, yes, I still can't believe my eyes, what a casting error !!!) and to finish, Captain III BLM. truthful.
The no border antifa with the slogan "one world, one people", all good people of course.
The entire special effects budget was balanced in the first episode, worthy of the best avengers, to end up in natural settings without makeup, without costumes, without anything. Worse than Highlander tv show in the 90's.
I finished this show very, very annoyed. What world are we getting ready to live in ?
Tiring .

Just finished season 6 of Bosch....gotta say it is extremely rare for a show to have this many great seasons one after another...not a single bad season yet. It just makes it even more sad that the 7th will be it's last...but there's talk of a possible follow-up series but who knows...hopefully it'll happen.

So went for another Amazon original with ABSENTIA starring Stana Katic from Castle. After the first two episodes I'm bit on the fence...love Stana but this show is quite different from Castle that's for sure. Also the story moves along bit slowly...but the premise is interesting as is the story...so far though there's been bit too much of personal drama and not enough of the actual story moving along...but I'm hoping it'll pick up a bit soon..

the theme of the medical world worried me a little but I was wrong. It's a total success: the acting, the staging, the social context, everything is perfect.

^ Interesting suggestion there. I'm always intrigued about evil people watering their lawns. By that, I mean that my favorite scenes in Brazil were where Michael Palin's character was being a dad to his kids and petting his dog. We do a disservice to portray evil as a monolithic sort of muhuhahahaha scenery-chewing sort of character because, in real life, we *all* have to shop for groceries, pay bills, deal with crappy internet, take vacations, buy gas, deal with sneakers blowing out on us... and because there's not that much difference, we see how easy it is to cross between criminal/legal, ethical/unethical, good/bad, moral/immoral.

Which is why I also love the Mike Ehrmentraut character in Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul so much. The scene where he tells the pharma employee that he's now a criminal is excellent. "I didn't say you were a bad guy. I said you were a criminal."

***

My current watching with the missus is Season 5 of Kim's Convenience. There's some awkwardness in the Jung character not being in the scenes and how a breakup just kinda happened in the break between seasons 4 and 5, but the characters of Mr. and Mrs. Kim are still as strong as I like them.  Also looking forward to Season 3 of Dead to Me coming out.

Lol, sort of an "It's Always Sunny" kind of vibe.

I just finished season 1 of Bosch - loved it, thanks to Charger for the recommendation.

Wife and I are going through Clarkson's Farm. This is an EXCELLENT show as it shows a reality of farming life that is neither romanticized nor demonized. And while Clarkson has plenty of cash to deal with losses, the problems he faces in terms of weather, injury, regulations, and market conditions all are ones that other farmers have to face without the kinds of cash reserves that Clarkson has.

It also points out reasons why industrial farming - especially in meat and egg production - is the way it is. The industrialization may be cruel, but it also removes many of the risks that go along with traditional methods.

Its more an ethnic slur towards Italians and Greeks here but much like how black Americans call each other the N word the Italians and Greeks can call each other or themselves wog. A lot of younger Aussies that come from an ethnic or migrant background talk like the son in Superwog Lol

I just started this show which attracted me by the presence of the sublime Kelly Reilly. Her green eyes and red hair have bewitched me for years. Obviously, Kevin Costner strengthens the cast by his presence as the patriarch of the family and owner of the largest ranch in Montana and desperate to defend his land and his children. Despite a few scenes of animals in pain that annoyed me from the start, I decided to continue watching this tv show. Good acting, good cast, very beautiful staging, several narrative arcs that intersect ... very pleasant to follow once again despite crippled horses, cattle branded with a hot iron, a bison executed with a rifle by an Indian nostalgic for his ancestors, snakes beaten to death or mutilated dogs. I always look for the mention "no animal was treated badly during the shooting."
Anyway, Montana is gorgeous.

Been watching the brand new documentary called 9//11 Day In America from Nat Geo and it's pretty awesome...pretty gut wrenching and extremely sad at times but it also shows the heroism normal people are capable when faced with extreme evil.

It is a true tear jerker though. And it's not an easy watch by any means. But well worth it. Features a lot of unseen footage as well from the day shot by news crews, FDNY, NYPD and by standers as well as survivors. Some of the footage is quite powerful stuff...and you can feel and sense the overwhelming panic and sadness and disbelief of people there.

Think it's 6 epsiodes in total. I'm about to watch episode 4 now.

I just found a very interesting Sci-Fi show from Amazon Prime called The Expanse.

It takes place in the 23rd century in our solar system where Earth and Mars are in a cold war that could errupt at any moment. The main events take place in Ceres in a mining colony with hopes of their own independence from the rule of Earth. Now a mysterius party wants to start the war between Earth and Mars and everything seems to connect one way or another to Ceres.

The plot is quite multi dimensional and there are a bunch of main characters but the two main leads are Thomas Jane (who plays a private police detective on Ceres investigating a missing persons case that seems to connect deeper into the plot) and Steven Strait (who plays a crew member that survives an attack on an ice carrying vessel that is also connected somehow to the plot to start the war). Both are great in their roles.

The visuals are also rather brilliant and the physics are actually pretty accurate although that's not all that important to a sci-fi show anyways as it can quite often take away from the action and the story.

There is a strong Battlestar Galactica vibe to this in both the political storylines and to the visual effects and camera runs and zooms. But it is original enough to stand on it's own.

From what I've read lots of people were calling this the "greatest sci-fi show of all time" and non sense like that...well...no that is is NOT but it's a very enjoyable show and after 5 episodes I have to say I'll be watching the whole series now.

If there is one bigger negativity about the show it's the lack of humor. It is bit heavy at times and the plot can be bit hard to follow...little moments of humor would have helped to balance it out a bit. But all in all a very very interesting show. I'd highly recommend this to all sci-fi fans.

Found out I’d been paying for Apple TV+ and didn’t even know it. One of my kids must’ve signed up without me knowing. Anyhow was flicking through the shows on there to see what it had to offer and came across Ted Lasso which jogged my memory of hearing good things about. Decided to give it a go and ended up watching season 1 in its entirety in one sitting. What a funny heartwarming sports show with a good blend of British and American humour. Can’t recommend it enough. Will be watching S2 today.

Whilst season 2 of Ted Lasso wasn’t as good as S1(They focused more on life issues outside of the change rooms) I still enjoyed it. An odd twist at the end sets up an interesting storyline for S3.

Also, the  second episode of The Book of Boba Fett was a marked improvement on the opening episode but it still has it flaws and hasn’t got me in like The Mandalorian did after 2 episodes.

I think having the backstory run concurrently with the present story is kinda saving the show.

I finished watching Hawkeye last night. The latest MCU spin-off starring Jeremy Renner, with Hailee Steinfeld, Vera Farmiga, Florence Pugh, Tony Dalton, Fra Fee and Vincent D'Onofrio. It also stars Alaqua Cox a deaf, lower leg amputee who seems to be pretty good at the martial arts!!

It was okay, some good action set-peices and nice bow work!! But I think WandaVision and, in particular, Loki were better (I couldn't get into the Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but I've only seen 1 episode, I should give it another chance).

Next up is The Book of Boba Fett, but I might wait until a couple more episodes have been released.

Watched the new Ghostbusters: Afterlife. I LOVE that movie, it's a great one. DISCLAIMER: My daughter loves the movie and there's very much a daddy-daughter thing through the whole film, so there's a personal dimension there.

All the same, I think it's the best of the GB franchise, solid storytelling in this one without the glibness of the first, the lost direction of the second or the "hey let's do a reboot!" of the third.

This is one of the greatest sitcoms of all time, in my opinion.

Been watching Pam & Tommy on Disney plus and it’s surprisingly very entertaining. Was thinking how much story can they actually get out of the sex tape saga but it’s very well written and funny enough with great performances to keep you engaged. In particular Sebastian Stan absolutely nails Tommy Lee as does Lily James playing Pam. Seth Rogen is great also. There’s a few scenes that make you literally say WTF out loud. Good entertaining watch.

Sorry, I just drifted off there for a moment.

Just started watching the new Amazon Prime show REACHER.

Season 1 is based on the very first Reacher book Killing Floor by Lee Child.

Alan Ritchson stars as Jack Reacher and he does a hell of a job. And he is a big dude, like the Reacher in the books...unlike the midget version that was played by that one guy in the movies.

There's quite a bit going on story wise and it unfolds rather slowly but there's enough action and some light banter to keep it going.

I'm only two episodes in but I have to say I'm loving it. Willa Fitzgerald is great as Officer Conklin who becomes one of Reacher's closest allies and Malcom Goodwin (from Breakout Kings) is great as a relentless detective on the case in which Reacher has a more personal interest in solving.

There's a good ammount of humor but the wow factor comes from the rather brutal and realistic fight scenes. Not as graphic as lets say on Banshee but still rather pleasantly violent if one can say that. There's a certain hands on realism in the fights and big part of it comes from Ritchson wanting to do all of it himself.

All in all this is a great show...too bad there's only 8 episodes so I'll be done with it this week...but luckily there's already an order for a second season.

Some of the scenery and visuals are actually pretty good for what I guess is a low budget production.

The film itself is typical RE fair... virus outbreak in airport... blah blah.. rescue of dodgy senator...blah blah... all seems to lead to a hi-tech research facility... blah blah.. sectret dealings... blah blah... big battle against mutant etc.

It's enjoyable enough, better than several of the live action films 7/10. Now looking forward to the imminent release on DVD of Resident Evil: Vendetta.

EDIT: One thing I should add, the way the CGI is done it does make it look like you're watching someone playing a video game.

Quote 2

Just quoting myself here as I've just watched Resident Evil: Vendetta, which uses very similar technology to the earlier Degeneration film... i.e. animation using motion capture.

This time the plot involves an arms dealer with a grudge who has access to the virus and the race to stop him from releasing the virus and develop a vaccine. It's okay, the graphics are slightly more refined than the earlier film, but that doesn't make up for a slightly predicatble plot and weak villain. 6/10

Quote 3

Just posting a message I placed on BSO last September, so that I don't have to repeat myself! :)

I've just watched the 2nd of the Resident Evil animations Resident Evil: Damnation (2012), and much like the two mentioned above it is a motion-captured animation, and the visuals are as good as the other two.

The plot involves Leon S Kennedy infiltrating an imaginary Eastern European country torn with civil war. The resistence are fighting the government and both sides seem to have access to B.O.Ws (zombies/monsters!). The plot is probably the weakest of the three films but the atmosphere is good, and some of the set-peices are nice. 6/10

So this weekend I watched Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness (2021) on rental (I hadn't realised it was on Netflix and that it is a 4-part TV series rather than a feature film). As with the films quoted above it is an animation using motion capture.

Principle characters are Leon S Kennedy and Claire Redfield who are investigating the suicides of the members of a crack black ops unit after action in fictional war-torn African country Panamstan. Does the US defence Secretary know more than he lets on, did the Chinese sink a US Submarine? Can an escalation in tensions be avoided?

It looks good, again character faces are still a little wooden even if their other  movement is fluid and realistic. Not a huge amount of zombie action in this one but the infected rats aboard the submarine will have some people climbing the walls!

Plot is quite weak if I'm honest, but it's a solid film for action set-peices so not a complete dissaster. 5.5/10

Started watching I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER on Amazon Prime.

The plot outline is about the same as in the movie but that's where the similarities end. The show is most certainly it's own identity.

It's bit too teeny for my liking and the characters are all quite abnoxious but I think that kind of fits the genre though. The first two kills were nice and brutal but then the others haven't been up to par at all...but I do like to ponder who the killer is and it's only 8 episodes so it's a nice short run.

I've got 2 episodes left.

I can safely say I prefer the movie by a country mile but the show's been entertaining enough to keep me interested.

Just started on Picard season 2. I'm hoping for plenty of John DeLancie in this series. A little suspicious about the premise that they have to go back to 2024 LA to make things better. Hoping it's to root out a Borg sleeper cell and not to do a crossover with Terminator or something nutty like that.

I'm not gonna start with Picard until all the episodes are up. I wanna watch them in a row.

Honestly the first season was a bit of a let down and it didn't really have the Star Trek vibe so I'm not setting my hopes too high with this one either.

I'm 4 episodes in and I'm prioritizing other shows... Only reason for them to time travel to exactly 2024 is to save on production values, I'm guessing. I'm not thrilled with how it's developed thus far. The missus wants to see all of them, so I'll have to slog through them. If they get better, I'll say something here. Otherwise, pass. Not enough Q to justify his placement on the series thumbnail.

Better Call Saul Season 5 is up on Netflix, gonna start that tonight. :D

I just watched this british dramedy called The Outlaws on Prime...

It was pretty good...had some dull moments and it wasn't quite as funny as I expected but it had few good laughs and Christopher Walken was once again ACE! He just has a way of very subtle comedy in him...

Also season 2 of The Flight Attendant started off on HBO MAX and it's really really good...maybe even better (and funnier) than season 1!

Just started with the Bosch "spinoff" Bosch: Legacy...Harry Bosch quit the LAPD and started out as a private detective and gets his first case involving the search of a billionaire's (William Devane from 24) long lost love and child...There are also ofcourse some overlaps with the original Bosch storylines... Only Bosch, Honey Chandler and Maddie Bosch are from the main cast of the old show but there is some promise of atleast few characters coming and going from the old show...

After the first episode I have to say the quality sure as heck didn't dip at all...if anything it picked up more of the classic film noir style.

From Amazon Prime a show called Ten Percent is most certainly worth watching...espcially if you like British dramedy.

Jack Davenport stars as a head of a talent agency with a lot of issues both personal and business. His humor is just brilliant and the rest of the cast is top notch too...and on every epsisode there is one "real" star who the agency represents...most are however british and though they might be big there I haven't even heard of all of them (not including the brilliant Dominic West and Helena Bonham Carter) but honestly that doesn't matter.

The show is rather excellent. A good mixture of really good (british) comedy and drama.

Just finished the Terminal List.

A very good show, and surprisngly brutal at times as well. Good writing, strong story and nice twist at the end. Chris Pratt does an amazing job in his most serious role yet.
And ofcourse the show highlights some of the troubles of war vets as well which is always a good thing.

There was also two stand out tracks in the soundtrack that need a mention. Black Sabbath's War Pigs played out for quite a while as did Iron Maiden's 2 Minutes To Midnight...which were both bit surprising as there was really no other rock tracks at all...so an interesting choice with those two.

No they didn't take it all out...there's still quite a few laugh out loud moments but not as many as before and the over all tone is more serious...more like Star Trek TNG...which is not surprising considering most of the main writers/producers are the same.

Started watching TULSA KING from Skyshowtime.... 6 episodes in (no more available at the moment) and it is brilliant!

Sylverster Stallone shines on the lead and there is a nice mixture of humor and drama and action. Maybe tad bit less action than I expected but it is more than made up with the brilliant cast and at time laugh out loud funny dialogue.

It turned out to be one of the fasted renewed shows in history too as it got a second season right after the first episode aired. And it is most watched new show on SkyShowtime and Paramount+.

Finished season one of Tulsa King.

Stallone may be carrying most of the show on his broad shoulders, but I think that was the point of the whole series. There's good stuff from the other actors and all, but Stallone, my gosh, the man's a force of friggin' nature!

There are plots moves that get telegraphed, but what's 100% real and worth staying for are any scenes with Stallone in 'em, which, thankfully, is almost all of them. :)

Well I'm two episodes in and I'm already bored to death...nothing has happened, there is virtually no humor (and this is supposed to be a comedy), the characters are uninteresting and unfunny and some out right obnoxious.

I'm going "What the hell? Why is this supposed to be so good?" But I'll watch the first season it's only 7 episodes but I find it hard to believe I'll find anything to enjoy with this...

I passed on it, there seems to be a raft of "quirky dark comedy" out there. Those are code words for, "if we can't really wind up a gag with a good punch line, we'll just kill somebody or other big shock."

I'm a few episodes in Wednesday, and I'm really enjoying it. Jenna Ortega is the best in that role since Christina Ricci in the early 90s Addams Family films... Ricci has a role in this series as one of the teachers at the school.

Oh that's an addams Family show! I've seen a lot of talk about it and pictures of Jenna Ortega saying how hot she is and what not (opinon I can't fully understand)...I've always pondered what that show is about...

The problem here is No one has died yet (and I'm on episode 4!) the comedy isn't all that dark and there is very very little of it...mainly it's just boring. Will NOT be watching season 2!

"So what's the show about?"

"We're still in the dark about that."

"Is it a comedy?"

"Maybe. Haven't committed one way or the other."

"OK, we'll call it a dark comedy and act like anyone not finding it funny is uncool."

Well I was uncool for sure!

That was 6 hours of my life completely wasted...crappy crappy show. Avoid at all cost.

Today I'll go back in time a bit and start again with one of my all time favourite shows FRINGE! It's been too long since I've watched it....can't even fully remember the first season so it'll be a real treat.

I started on "Great Canal Journeys" which are available on YouTube. Sweet, slow television about some actors who have been married for 50 years and are having some golden moments as they tool around the canals of England and other parts of the world. They're a notch below a Winnie the Pooh story in terms of plot intensity, very calm and relaxing. And the relationship between the married couple (Timothy West and Prunella Scales) is endearing. Happy, peaceful, relaxing, soothing, perfect thing to pop on just before going to bed.

Prunella Scales is probably best known for playing Sybil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers. I think she has some sort disorder such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's these days.

I've seen bits of that show, but to be honest it's a little slow for me!

Mrs. Scales was awesome in Fawlty Towers. And yeah, she has dementia - there is a documentary out there they made with her and her husband about it. Can't remember the name (no pun intended).

Yes, the show is slow, very slow, not for when you're in a rough mood or if you're jonesing for pew pew pew action. :)

The most touching thing is how they take a hand they're dealt - onset of Alzheimer-like dementia - and play it to the max. They're determined to share good times together. Tim West is himself set on being supportive and patient - tender, I think the best word for it - and, in turn, it's teaching me a lesson on how I should deal with my parents as they turn 79 this year. Take it easy, let them repeat things, enjoy the moment with them.

Anyone here watched Yellowstone?

It's been getting some raving reviews and ofcourse the prequel has Harrison Ford in it so naturally it's something that needs to be watched.

Now that SkyShowtime finally has a Samsung TV app I can dive into the shows on there...including ofcourse Dexter New Blood which should be interesting.

Just started Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan on Prime

And after just 2 episodes I have to say this show is looking goooood!

Firstly it is so nice and refreshing to see a show that isn't woke afraid in showing some real terrorists again instead of the usual "bad guys need to always be white" bullshit.

Good acting on all parts and I was very surprised by John Krasinski's Jack Ryan. Sure he's no Harrison Ford but he blows away everyone else that has played that role...yes godawful Ben Affleck I'm looking at you! But ofcourse the man to watch is the always brilliant Wendell Pierce as James Greer.

The show takes place way before Patriot Games (eventhough it is ofcourse set in the modern times) and it is building the character up quite nicely. And the action is top notch.

If you have Prime I can highly recommend this one!

Jumped onto season 2 of Jack Ryan right away and it kicked things off very nicely again as well. This time focusing on some shady weapons deals in Venezuela.

Quite interesting with a nice tie in with both Patriot Games and Clear And Present Danger....seems like another very enjoyable season.

very well written and performed tv show with two performing actors from Game of Thrones, Pedro Pascal (Oberyn Martell) and Bella Ramsey (Lyanna Mormont). Pedro is also behind the mask of The Mandolarian, another good show, the last one from Disney not to have been contaminated by cancel culture before their latest abominable productions.
The Last of Us has touches from The Walking Dead and The Road movie with Viggo !

One of the most beautiful dramatic TV shows I have seen in recent years: a very well-staged story and breathtaking images. The acting of the 2 main actors is magnificent, Emily Blunt has rarely been so moving.

Not sure about the first episode. Maybe the fact that it takes place in France, hearing French actors speaking inaudible English in a familiar place, I don't know. In addition the acting is so bad, little action and a very poorly lit convent.
the settings of wasteland urban locations are a sad failure.
I like to be disorientated when I watch a TV show.
the trailer for the next episodes seems to be closer to the mother tv show.

Not so much for me, I enjoy the different approaches to problem solving in it. I also think that the last 4 seasons have been some of the best competition, especially season 14 with Dara O'Brien applying his smarts to just about everything and cleaning up. Sara Millican did a runner-up job so good, it would have won in other seasons.

I will neither confirm nor deny that I have a spreadsheet where I track this stuff...

But damn if it doesn't gloss over a good deal of pain endured by "staff" in order to cater to the whims and wishes of their lords and masters. It shows some pain, yes, but in ever so pretty of a way. I enjoyed watching it and then going back and doing further reading on the time period.

The "Dave" channel here in the UK shows (among other programs) repeats of Top Gear. Just tuned in today and they are showing the very first episode with the rebooted format from about 2002! They don't usually go back that far!

I don't think I've seen it before but Harry Enfield is the first ever Star in the Reasonably Priced Car. I think The Stig wears black in this series (but I haven't seen him yet!) and James May hasn't joined yet, the 3rd member is some fat guy called Jason Dawe! The show is far more factual than we became used to!

I don't think I've ever seen those early Top Gear episodes...I think the show started here around season 5....might be mistaken...been so long. But May was with the group from the start here that's for sure.

Star channel is showing some of those early ones on reruns every now and then..

Just started watching PERRY MASON.

No not the one with Raymond Burr but the new prequel show on HBO...and I gotta say it sure is different.

But the 30s LA looks pretty enough eventhough most of it ofcourse is CGI but there's enough real to it to not be over the top.

The character is nothing and I mean NOTHING like Burr's savvy lawyer was but is interesting enough.

One thing that caught me off guard a bit is how brutal it is...there are couple of scenes already in the second episode that made me go "Wow! That's some goooood gore make-up there!"

I knew enough about the show to know not to expect "classic" Perry Mason and by accepting that this is actually turning out to be somewhat enjoyable...slow though...and hey it's got John Lithgow in it!

RESIDENT ALIEN...

On Netflix, starring Alan Tudyk in an EXCELLENT role as an alien masquerading as a doctor, whose backstory he has no clue about. Great fun with snappy dialogue and acting. It's based on a graphic novel series, which I've bought to read separately. Loving both versions, really.

Started finally watching HALO on SkyShowtime and it's pretty good. The effects are great and the universe looks stellar.

I have not played much Halo, I think I tried it way back when but I can't really remember what I thought of it or why I didn't play more of it...so that means I don't have a lot of basis for the show which I think is better.

The first episode was awesome with tons of action and great fights against the Covenant....second one was a bit of a letdown though as it was very slow and nothing much happened. Will see what the 3rd one has in store for tonight.

Cast is pretty unknown part of Natascha McElhone (from Californication) and Pablo Schreiber (from gazillion shows but he's never had a true lead before) which is okay, but a big budget show like this would benefit from having some bigger names...second episode did also feature Bokeem Woodbine though.

Columbo is a classic! I remember watching it when I was s kid. Loved Peter Falk and his glass eye. Sometimes you could see him squint a little bit that gave it away if you knew.
Haven't seen an episode in 30 years I think....seen it pop up on some of my streaming services and been thinking about catching up on it...but they are 90 minute episodes so it takes bit more time than "normal" shows.

After finishing Halo I'm thinking it's time for another game based tv show...this time FALLOUT.

I did play Fallout 1 a little bit back in the day but the turn based mechanics annoyed the shit out of me so I gave up after a while...so damn slow! While the story and the world was quite interesting.

So I am quite excited to see how it all works in tv land. I just hope they don't fall into the same hole of non action that Halo fell into bit too much.

Oh and I also did finish Clarkson's Farm 3 and it was excellent...maybe the best season yet.

Wow! What a triumphant return of one of comedy's greatest characters! Kelsey Grammer nails it!

One thing that surprised me is how much more drama they added to the show. And how well it actually worked! The line between laugh out loud comedy and tearjerker moments blend in perfectly!

The new cast for the most part is great too...part from Niles' and Daphne's son David...he has bit too much Sheldon in him...wish they could have been bit more original with him.

I can't wait for season 2!

Love me some Captain Kirk, excellent writing in that series.

My wife got into "Kevin Can F*** Himself" and I'm watching it as well. Half of it is serious drama, half of it is shot like a sitcom with a laugh track, but the two halves are connected. And the sitcom character Kevin is an abusive jerk of a man-child that makes for a typical sitcom husband, but a nightmare to be married to. So his wife has plans on how to deal with him... really interesting writing in that series.

I started Tulsa King again in anticipation of season 2... had almost forgotten just how brilliant this show was!

I wholeheartedly agree with you my friends, the Original Series is one of if not the best shows in the history of TV

One episode left then I'm done with The Mandalorian

This one was a very positive surprise. I went in with pretty low expectations but it turned out to be great!

Book Of Boba Fett was a mixed bag but it has some great stuff and ofcourse Ming Na Wen who is still one of the hottest women on the planet...and she's 60!

Next up is Obi Wan...

Have the cheap Disney + for two more months so I'm trying to go through as many shows as I can from there... I do think I'll pass on the other Star Wars shows as they have been getting totally shit reviews everywhere by everyone not a member of some sort of LGBT cult.

One of these days I might watch some of those - probably not. Here's why: I saw Star Wars in the theaters when it came out in 1977, then saw The Empire Strikes Back at the theaters in 1980.

I have not seen either one of those since then.

I have not watched any Star Wars universe related film or show other than those two. So the likelihood that I'll get into it now is slim. Which is odd when I think about it - back in the day, it was always years before a top movie would make its way onto normal television channels and I recall always hoping to see Star Wars again.

It never happened. In fact, I think I read where Lucas stated he would never have it released to the small screen for some reason or another. But, the point is, I was excited and looked forward to it at one point. But now, I just can't get interested. The whole Star Wars milieu has all of the elements I would normally go for...I guess I'm just nuts.

I found The Mandalorian (TM) most enjoyable. I've only seen series 1 but intend to see 2 (and 3?) at some point. I haven't seen anything else from the TV world.

I think what made TM work was that it concentrated on one character, there weren't too many supporting characters, and there was a straightforward plot, which didn't have too many strands.

Just finished with Season 4 of Only Murders in the Building. That's such a fun show.

I have been pondering about that one too...but I have limited time so I need to figure out which shows I have time for.

About Star Wars...

The Mandalorian was best Star Wars since the prequel trilogy... Season 3 was bit different but the first two were quite excellent...and we even saw few characters from the original trilogy making an appearance! :)

For Vyn...I don't know what to say really... I'd recommend getting back on the wagon starting with the prequels and then the original trilogy...not sure about the new ones...the first was very good though...mainly because of Harrison Ford obviously. The rest got bit....well...disney to be honest. But they too had their moments and ofcourse were visually sublime!

But it is also quite possible the coach has passed your station already and making hopping back on rather difficult...

Thanks, I might give the first three a shot and see how it goes.

Watching season 2 of FRASIER and it is still just as good!

Some more "old" Frasier guest stars so far and they've been quite enjoyable!

Just finished REACHER season 3.

It was great...maybe not quite as great as the past two were but there was still a good mix of humor and hard core action.

Pretty much just Survivor and The Amazing Race for me right now. And Taskmaster Australia Season 3 as it releases on YouTube.

Kevin Bacon hit a total home run with his new show THE BONDSMAN! Highly recommend this one. Great over the top humor, great gory action and some character drama thrown in with great effects and a bit different take on demons.

This is kind of like if Evil Dead and Supernatural got and made a bastard son!

Just started watching the new Noah Wyle hospital drama The Pitt on Max...

Two episodes in and it seems really good.

What's strange is that the show is actually being sued by the creators of ER because they think the show is a copy of that.

Honestly I don't see it. The over all vibe is pretty different and the pacing is somewhat slower...sure this too is set in the Emergency Room and stars Noah Wyle but that's about it really...or maybe it has been so long since I've seen ER that I just can't remember anymore....

But regardless this is a really really good show. There's quite a bit of subtle humor in the show and the dialogue is good. Noah Wyle is great in the lead. Most of the other actors are pretty unknown which is kind of good as well as it gives Wyle the stage to shine. Fiona "Brad's Daughter" Dourif is the other one that rises up from the cast. She does a really good job.

Finished The Pitt last week and oh boy was it GREAT! Just GREAT! Hands down the best hospital drama since ER. Great acting all around top preformances came from Noah Wyle and Kathrine LaNasa who were both just stellar.

I can highly recommend this one for anyone who has HBO Max!

Watching Star Trek the next generation currently half way through the 4th season
By this time the show had really found the perfect beat and only got better as time went on

Yes, that was when the series hit its stride and rode it all the way to the end. Great stuff!

Clarkson's Farm season 4 is delivering. I think my wife and I will be watching the last 2 episodes tomorrow night. I understand he wants to take a break from filming it so he can concentrate on farming, but any time he wants to make a show about farming, I'm on board.

Season 4 was okay! Probably the weakest of them all so far as it was too much about the pub search and not enough about farming. I'm not sure why the focus shift, maybe from Amazon execs but frankly I still think that 90% of people watch the show because of the FARMING not because of Jeremy tries to buy a pub!

Farming's exactly what I want to see, but I don't mind a bit of real estate teevee.

Line Of Duty

This is a British series where the main cast is the section of the Police Department who investigate other officers. Here in the US we call that section Internal Affairs, but it's a different name in England, which I forget at the moment.  There is a total of 6 or 7 seasons of which I have seen the first 4.  All 4 have been terrific.

It is a highly intellectual show with lots of dialogue, but with a sprinkle of action where appropriate.  I am looking forward to starting season 5 in a couple of days.  So far, 9/10.

Mobland

Just finished the first and, right now, only season of this show.  Set in England, it's about the main crime family that dominates that area.  Pierce Brosnan plays the head of that family along with his wife played by Helen Mirren.  The only other actor I recognized was Tom Hardy.  All do a fine job as well as the rest of the cast.  As one would expect, there is plenty of violence, but it is not overdone.  I hope a second season is in the works.  8/10

I think it should be as it's been quite the hit.

All episodes aren't available here yet (just the first 6 I believe at the moment) I'll be watching it as soon as all episodes appear!

Tulsa King

Sylvester Stallone stars in this modern mob series, and does a marvelous job.  The series begins with Stallone being released from a long stint in prison, and he is assigned by the current mob boss to move from New York to Tulsa to establish operations there.  A task Stallone is not happy about.  Good performances by all the various characters in the first 2 seasons.  I heard a 3rd season s in the works.  9/10

3rd season I think is either finished filming or is about to finish!

SUBERB show. Best crime show since The Sopranos and in some ways even better.

The Last Chapter

This mini-series is based on the largest biker gang ever to occupy Canada, known as the Triple Sixers.  Starring Michael Ironside, who was the only actor I recognized, but all of the cast were very convincing.  I recommend it.
 9/10

Re-watching Silicon Valley because it's kinda like pretty much my work environment in most episodes. Something about seeing life reflected in art...

Just finished watching TIM ALLEN's new show Shifting Gears and I have to say it's quite good indeed!

There's just enough of self irony there from both leads Tim and Kat Dennings.

It's nothing ground breaking but it is a funny show and Tim Allen sure still has the comedic chops.

And inspired by this I just started watching his previous show LAST MAN STANDING and I think it's even better! Great cast and great humor.

Home Improvement was one of my childhood favourites so Tim Allen has always been on top side of my best comedians list.
