Take a vote!
For me, it's "Lonely Is the Word", but only just. Both are excellent closers, but LITW has that beautiful solo in the middle that wins the day.

Lonely Is The Word has Tony's GREATEST SOLO OF ALL TIME and the song kicks all kinds of a major ass in every other respect as well.
I do love Over And Over too, very bluesy but Lonely Is The Word is without a doubt in a legue of its own...one of the true Black Sabbath classics.

Funny it's such a slam-dunk for you, because I had to play them both back before doing the poll so I'd know which one I'd go for. It was much closer for me, but, yes, it's the solo that puts it over the top.

I've loved Lonely Is The Word since I first heard it...not only is it about loneliness which is a subject matter I am extremely familiar with (and have been for most of my life) but it is musically a masterpiece.
If we are ever gonna do the best ever Sabbath closer this track would win that vote for me as well.

Sounds like we should set up a bracket... I'll see if there's a bracket mod for SMF...

Although I voted that I didn't like either one, I must explain that the issue is a difference in taste. This style of song doesn't give me that inner inspiration which good hard Sabbath rock & roll does. It doesn't get my juices flowing. Nothing wrong with the musical expertise, as that, of course , is top notch.

You'd rather something like "Neon Knights" or "Turn Up the Night" for a closer, I take it?

^^^^^^
Not saying that. It's just that these 2 are a bit to ballad-like for me. An example of my style of closer would be Under The Sun.
-
Over & Over for me, but I do love LITW also, just a tad behind though.
-
I'm Billy Underdog, and i agree with Typh. Power Ballads aren't good album closers...
-
LITW for me as well. ZZZ is right about the solo in the middle. The first part of it almost makes you wanna cry.

Lonely Is The Word easily for me. Love everything about that song. Over And Over on the other hand is a song I've never been able to form any sort of connection with. Tony's solos are amazing of coarse but that's it. The rest of the song just plods and doesn't take me anywhere.
Mob Rules has always finished with Fallling Off The Edge Of The World for me.

I pretty much agree with all of your sentiments.
