We all know that Dio is The Man on the Silver Mountain.
Billy Underdog only has access to normal-colored mountains.
:mopey:
Therefore, Billy's animosity towards Dio is rooted in jealousy.
Would you agree with that, Mr. Osbourne?
:ozzy:
Thanks for the agreement there. I believe this explains everything, does it not?
-
Why not mention that my hate against Bruce Dick-In-Son, Geoff Tate, Timo Kotipelto and other wannabe Opera singers are equally as high?
Well, the only difference is that they weren't part of ruining my favorite band. Though Dickie helped ruin a great NWOBHM band.
And it wasn't only Dio who did the job, Iommi was a huge part of it himself, as well as Geez accepting to just stand there like a Disco Dancer going bump bump bump bump.... And ofcourse it was the 80's sound setting in.
That being said, back when i still listened to that crap, Mob Rules was better than Heaven And Hell...
-
But i do admit both Dio and Dickie are cool to listen to in interviews. They're knowledgeable people, esp. when speaking about Heavy Metal.
They got the knowledge, too bad they've misunderstood how to convey it in song.

Sorry, Billy, your reasons are not scientific. Even if they are your own, there is no way that they can be right because they are not scientific.
:fail1:
As for Bruce Dickinson, he sang "Run to the Hills." You prefer mountains. On top of that, he sang "Die with your boots on", but you clearly live with your boots on, totally the opposite. Logically, you cannot find such a person agreeable.
As for Geoff Tate, he's in a band called Queensryche, which translates loosely as "absolute monarchy led by a female." It is clear from the Royalty thread that you prefer a constitutional monarchy to an absolute one and are therefore not at all politically aligned with the stance mandated by that group's name. It is the politics that drives the decision to oppose the operatics.
As for operatics, it seems that the Norwegians, as a people, are simply opera-averse. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Norwegian-language_operas shows only three. Danes, Swedes, Finns, all of them have more operas. Even the *Dutch* have more operas than the Norwegians. Therefore, it seems to be a cultural emphasis on non-opera that has already biased you against the art from. It's simply not in your culture to go that way.
My reasoning is scientifically sound, therefore it MUST be true. Geezer will jam out on his bass if he agrees with me...
:geezer:
Wow! Such enthusiasm! I am overwhelmed by his support of my position! :smug:

Well, not really... Pseudo-scientific at best. Someone who isn't even able to spell Queensrÿrche the right way can hardly call themselves even remotly scientific.
Will be back with more science tomorrow when i'm in a better mood. Right now there's a real life horror show that needs my attention.
-
Sorry about the mess in your life at this time, hope it gets better.
When it does, I'll be happy to return to our scientific discussion. And, even if you say my arguments are "pseudo-scientific at best", I can always misquote you so that they are...
"scientific... best..."
Hope all goes well for you IRL.

I don't dislike Dio like Billy does, I guess. As far as Black Sabbath music goes, he does a good job, but does not fill Ozzy's shoes. Actually, nobody could.
-
O.K, so here goes:
To me Rock is about attitude. Yes, i acknowledge that Metal have taken influences from all other musical genres, but to me it's still the Rock that's the basis, be it intricate Jazz-fusion Extreme Metal or the "simple" straigth forward Doom/Stoner/Groove based type.
What all of these guys are doing, not just physically, but also with how they use their voice, is acting. Posing. The opposite to attitude.
Kurt Cobain would be a much better Metal vocalist than any of these (i actually got a deja vu now, and i just know Charg will quote and reply to that comment).
Not possible to "act" with attitude, you ask? Yes, Rob Halford and Freddie Mercury managed to do it. I have yet not discovered anyone else who've been able to.
That's how scientific it'll get, i've said it umptheen times before, and i hope this will be the last one. Though somehow i doubt it will be...

Well okay then. ;)
Most people's left butt cheek would be a better vocalist than Kurt Cobain ever was.
But knowing that you think that makes me understand completely why you don't like good vocalists. ;D

Very scientific. We all know that, due to his stature, Dio was simply not proportionally prepared to utilize the same shoe size as nearly anyone else.
Now, when Typhon says that nobody could fill Ozzy's shoes, it makes me ponder two possibilities. One: Ozzy had a very possessive attitude regarding footwear, making it impossible for others to gain access to his shoes.
Two: Ozzy's feet themselves were statistically unlikely to be duplicated in terms of size and shape such that the combination of dimensions made it such that each of his shoes had to be custom-fitted. Such a situation could produce a scenario in which a person could fill one shoe, but not the other, the two shoes being of different sizes.
Excellent work, Typhon.

You finally got scientific when you predicted this thread will continue. What we need for this attitude function, Billy, is an equation. With that, we would have the precision of mathematics to determine whether or not you will find a rock singer acceptable.
To wit, you have given us a data point to begin with: tone clarity. For another data point, we have charisma to consider, perhaps measurable as a pheromonic output. I'm sure there's a wiki page or something with historical data for that category we can utilize in our equation models.

I admit I don't find this thread very funny either up to know. However, in my opinion zzzptm is sometimes really funny. I particularly liked the following comment posted on a certain other forum:
ORIGINAL BAND: "Everything we're doing now is bold and imaginative, we're really like nothing else."
PROMINENT TALENT GOES SOLO: "It was all rehashing of old blues numbers in Original Band, I got tired of going nowhere musically. I'm so glad that I can truly express myself on my solo albums."
THE REUNION: "What I did as a solo artist, I had to do, had to get it out of my system. Just a flight of fancy. It's so great to be making magic again with Original Band, the stuff we're making now is as great as the old stuff."
AFTER A DISPUTE OVER PERCENTAGES: "I have left Original Band, effective immediately. Please consult the legal firm of Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe for further comment."
JOINS ANOTHER BAND: "The Original Band reunion was a disaster. Of course, you read about my departure in the press, and I'll give you the REAL story after I mention how awesome and liberating it is to be with Another Band. These guys are amazing, this is the best work I've done."
SECOND REUNION OF ORIGINAL BAND: "It's like I never left home. This is the only real music I've ever done, my work with Original Band. Our new album will not disappoint!"
NEW ALBUM DISAPPOINTS, DOES ANOTHER SOLO ALBUM: "Most of the reason behind the second reunion was money. I wanted to make music, they just wanted the money. Such a pity. But I'm glad I can fly free again."
GETS BACK WITH ANOTHER BAND: "We're not doing the songs recorded by the guy I replaced. They're not my music and, frankly, I don't consider them to be truly Another Band. When I'm with Another Band, then, yes, you can be sure it's really Another Band."
PARTIAL REUNION OF ORIGINAL BAND: "Me and the guitar player, we were always the core of Original Band. We don't need the other guys to play amazing stuff."
FULL REUNION OF ORIGINAL BAND: "If it's not all four of us together, it's simply just not Original Band, full stop. Don't let anyone say otherwise."
DRUMMER OF ORIGINAL BAND DIES IN FREAK GARDENING ACCIDENT: "We will miss him dearly, but we will also carry on. Original Band will rise from the ashes and continue forth to newer, better triumphs."
SLIGHT ISSUE REGARDING DISTRIBUTION OF MERCHANDISING PROFITS: "I'm glad to be done with those money-grubbers and, frankly, they can all go to hell, where they can join up with their ex-drummer."
ISSUE IS RESOLVED, WORLD TOUR RESUMES: "Me and my mates are inseperable! God bless them all, and I wish our ex-drummer were here instead of 'up there', where I know he's drumming with Hendrix."
OFFERED MORE MONEY TO TOUR WITH ANOTHER BAND: "My heart has always been with Another Band. Original Band, sure I had some laughs with them. But Another Band is where I've always felt like I was freest to explore, where we could play like no other band in the world."

Really? I found this rather hilarious! :D

Most people's left butt cheek would be a better vocalist than Kurt Cobain ever was.
He sang with true emotion, not a fake acted one like these guys mentioned here. I could just as easily've said Ozzy, James Hetfield, Lemmy, Axl Rose or Phil Anselmo. But i couldn't think of anyone more diametrical opposite than Cobain.

I'm with you! I do think Dio was a fantastic singer, but he did seem to put on airs while singing, trying to sound "mean" and such. Especially on Dehumanizer. Always liked Cobain's voice, reminds me of John Wetton at times.

Yeah, now that you say. I know he was a big fan of the Red album.

Well, I started off trying to kid around with Billy, but now it's gone towards more serious, no worries. :)

You've obviously never trained as an improvisational comic, have you?

Depends what you consider comedy... At some level my whole life is a comedy performance act.
