Title: What band are you gonna see live next?
Post by: Charger on March 15, 2018, 12:00:32 PM
Thought we need a thread like this here too!!

The next show I will be going to is BLAZE BAYLEY on May 10th in Helsinki.

Blaze always delivers one hell of a show. He is one of the best front men I have ever had the pleasure of seeing.

It would be great to see 3/5 Guns N' Roses this summer while they're still managing to keep together (or until Slash are out of his financial problems), but there was that issue with affording it. Wasn't quick enough to buy tickets for the Norwegian show before it was sold out, so a festival down in Europe would be cool. Preferably one that also got Ozzys farewell show...

Dallas Symphony Orchestra, performing the Nat King Cole songbook.

Saw them last night, truly wonderful hearing the music, which included some modern tunes sung in Cole's style. The renditions of "Amazing Grace" and "Always in My Mind" were the standouts of the new material section.

Of course, we were treated to "Unforgettable" as an encore, and that truly capped the evening's performance.

Getting ready for my 10th time seeing the masterful BLAZE BAYLEY on thursday!

Blaze always puts on a hell of a show and the Absolva guys are a suberb band so I already know this is gonna be awesome!

Well I'm off to the BLAZE BAYLEY show!!

2 hour drive ahead and my car's been having some issues...bit scary but hopefully I'll get there....and back....but that part's secondary getting there is the main thing.

Hah been a while since anyone's been to a concert I see... :)

Well I just bought tickets to Tuska Open Air Metal Festival in June...

2 main reasons SLAYER and ANTHRAX. Sadly both are on seperate days so I had to spend 119€ for a two day ticket...but there are couple of other slightly interesting bands like Battle Beast and Visions Of Atlantis...and some others might get confirmed later still...

Well I saw Def Leppard back in Nov who were suppose to be playing with the Scorpions which was the only reason I went but unfortunatly Scorpions had to cancel last minute both the Melbourme and Sydney shows due to Klaus Meine throat infection. Didn't find out until the support band hit the stage and it wasn't the Scorpions  >:(

To say it completely deflated me for the rest of the gig would be an understatement!

Def Leppard were just ok but too much playback for my liking.

Also just passed up an opportunity to go to Download on Monday with the likes of Priest, Slayer, Anthrax playing(Ozzy had to cancel) purely on a financial basis with a little bit of being over festivals thrown in. I actually planned on buying a ticket on the day of the festival as they can get heavily discounted but apparently they discounted them the night before and then were forced to take them down due to a flood of complaints and backlash from those that had paid for full price tickets, so that completely ruled me out.

Oh that sucks about Scorpions.

I'm not a big festival fan either...but the last time I've been at one was in 2004 at Tuska so I thought it would be about time again...plus it is the last chance to see Slayer and I wanted to see them once too...and Anthrax always delivers one heck of a show...however sadly they don't seem to be headlining though...Amorphis is! :wtf: but it's a finnish festival that lasts 3 days and they always put one Finnish band as a headliner for one day...sadly that had to be Friday then...so Anthrax probably only gets to play for 45 mins... :(

Atleast Slayer headlines Saturday so that's something. Now all I can do is hope that the weather will be nice...nothing would suck more than have your typical Finnish summer weather of +14C and rain...

Just had a look at the lineup for Tuska and their doesn't seem to much on offer outside the bands you mentioned, but if I could recomend one you should try and catch, its Power Trip.

Also, if Anthrax are the pre headlining band they should play 60-70 minute set? And yep, they always deliver a great show.

As for Slayer they are hands down my all time favourite consistent live band. They can make the shittiest acoustic venue sound grand and by all reports they're playing as good as ever on this farewell tour. Was very disappointed they chose a festival to be their last ever Melbourne show.

They are a young Thrash band with a ton of attitude and a touch of Punk.

I am hoping to see Alice In Chains for the 3rd time on 4/20 of this year. Last year I only saw the band Sleep live and coincidentally they released an awesome album on 4/20. I need to make up for lost concerts, usually my goal is 3 or more!

Metal Church have finally announced their first ever Australian tour in August and are playing a venue about 10-15 minutes from where I live. Probably the last band to tick off on my live band bucket list. Can't wait!

Well Tuska Open Air this week!

Friday's bands worth seeing:
Battle Beast
Anneke Van Griesbergen
ANTHRAX

Saturday:
Visions Of Atlantis
SLAYER

Should be fun two days...

Well getting ready to head out to the TUSKA OPEN AIR.

It'll be a record year again this year with 40000 sold tickets.

Naturally Saturday will be the big day with Slayer headlining and it being their last ever show in Finland makes it quite special...But as said I am still more looking forward to seeing Anthrax again.

There aren't a lot of other bands that I'm interested in honestly...

Battle Beast is quite awesome but I'm gonna struggle making it for their show...as my hotel room isn't gonna be ready until 3pm and it's about 1.5 mile walk from the hotel to the festival area...Hopefully I'll get to see atleast a part of their preformance.

Never really been a big Gathering fan or anything but Anneke Van Giersbergen might be interesting to check out...

Saturday is pretty dull with only Visions Of Atlantis being somewhat interesting...It is sad that there aren't more interesting acts this year...But Anthrax and Slayer will make up for that...

Oh shit that was a big picture...

Let us know if Anthrax plays the Pro Football song.  :)

They did not actually.

But they did do the Blue Velvet song NOW IT'S DARK which is one my favourites. That was so awesome to hear.

I gotta say I enjoyed all the bands I got to see.

Battle Beast was great although I missed about half of their set.
Anthrax was suberb...best band hands down.

Visions Of Atlantis was a real nice surprise. The duet singing worked very well (although I am not a big fan of the dual singer set up) but Clementine Delauney had such an incredible voice the band would be actually even better with just her fronting it.

Real surprise though was Delain who I had not even heard of much before hand...they delivered a fantastic and energetic set and their singer Charlotte Wessels had one insane set of pipes.

Both of those bands will go on my purchase list for the future. Delain also at the end of their set announced they'll be doing a Finnish tour in April so if I'm not dead by then I most certainly will go see them.

And then ofcourse SLAYER...that was one intense set. Tom only paused the 90 min set twice..once just to say hello and a second time to introduce one of my all time favourites Payback. Other than that it was all music. I am honestly not a huge fan of that style, I prefer the singer to interact with the crowd a lot but I do sort of understand why they chose to do it like this now.
Their pyros were insane...best I've ever seen. Saying they were awesome don't do them justice. Worth seeing just because of that I'd say.
There was not encore break or anything...they just stopped after Angel Of Death and Tom went to the side of the stage and just stood there in silence looking at the crowd soaking the energy in. There were no words needed really. His eyes told the story. I have to say I got bit teary eyed at that point myself. He then moved to the center of the stage did the same and then to the other side...Then he took the mic and said the warmest and most heart felt thank yous and goodbyes I've ever seen anyone do on stage and left.

Fantastic show and a great goodbye. If you haven't seen Slayer on this tour you need to...if you still can.

Tom's never been a big interactor with crowds. Slayer's always let the music do the talking, and I kinda prefer it that way tbh. Most interaction between songs is usually rehearsed from bands anyway. They practically say the same type thing at every show.

Glad you finally got to see Slayer and enjoyed it and that you also got Now It's Dark in Anthrax's set.

No he hasn't...that's true. But I've always enjoyed his comments though...his soft way of talking has always been in such great contrast with the intensity of the music. I did kind of miss that a little bit.

I think one of the best parts of the show was Hell Awaits which is probably one of Slayer's most "evil" songs and Tom was all smiles through out the song...I found it hilarious really. It just shows how different they are as people from the music that they do. Love that.

Metal Church was awesome charger.

Was only a tiny(but sold out) venue with a bare bones stage setup(not even a backdrop) but it never really matters when a band played & sounded amazing as they did.

Setlist was short but was all killer covering the first two albums and all the Mike Howe albums. Mike was in fine form too, both with his vocal performance and his stage presence/banter.

Crowd was very appreciative of their performance particularly on the newest songs which was great to see and the band was equally appreciative of that and to have finally made it to Australia which Mike referenced numerous times.

Standout highlights of the show for me was Start The Fire, Beyond The Black, Badlands and "The Black Things" from their latest album. Was hoping for "Ton Of Bricks" and "The Spell Can't be Broken" but was more than stoked with the songs they played.

Another highlight was getting to meet Mike & Kurdt after the show who casually mingled(along with the other members minus Stet Howland) with the 20 or so fans that had hung around after the show for a drink. Both were very cool and super friendly.  Got a separate photo with both of them :) but unfortunately didn't have anything with me to get signed  :'(

They are playing in Melbourne again tonight which was originally their first show but such was the demand they added another show at the start of the Oz tour....Very tempted to go again.

Sounds great!

Did they still play Agent Orange? They had that in the set in Japan earlier...

So cool you got to meet Kurdt and Mike too. They seem like super cool down to earth fellas.

I gotta say if possible I'd go again! ;D

Steve Unger had some passport issues (got expired maybe?) so he couldn't join the tour so they had a replacement bassist for these shows.
Title: Re: What band are you gonna see live next?
Post by: Jack the Stripper on August 29, 2019, 03:19:31 AM
Yeah not sure what happened with Steve, we have pretty strict visa conditions now so maybe he's got some past criminal convictions or something? Not sure who he's replacement was but I got the feeling he could've been an Australian guy as several people in the crowd called his name out (Bobby) several times during the show. Did a great job whoever he was though.

That's a negative on Agent Green. Talking with one of the local backline crew last night after the show he did mention they were gonna play an extended set tonight, like they did in Japan.

All the more reason to go again  :beerbang:

That'd be Bobby Ferkovich on bass for the Aussie shows. He is an old friend of Metal Church's.

Well if they'd do a different set tonight you have to go!! And report back ofcourse! ;D

Yeah I saw that...Made me wanna puke.

Megadeth is so far above Five Finger Fuck Wads that it's not even funny...so beneath them to join this tour..

But what I'm thinking is that Dave probably wants to ease into touring again after his cancer treatments....but this is still a horrible pairing.

Also I am weary about this whole thing...booking shows before the cancer treatments are done...we all remember how Heaven & Hell did the same back in 2010 and we all remember what happened with that in the end...
I'm just hoping that won't happen here. But cancer is a big fat bitch and you never know.

I still really really really want to see Megadeth live as I never have but I won't give one penny of my money to those Fuck Wads so I gotta pass on this one and hope it won't be my last ever chance to see Megadeth.
Title: Re: What band are you gonna see live next?

You could always leave the show before Five Finger Dick Wads play. Obviously it will be a little hit in the hip pocket just to see one band but you never can know, it could be the last chance you get to see Megadeth.

Hopefully it's a positive sign for Dave though that he is booking shows again.

Scored a free ticket to Alice Cooper last night for show #9 for me and again he and his band absolutely killed it. Loved that the setlist was heavy on his 70’s stuff with a sprinkling of mid/late 80’s songs. Production as usual was fun and engaging....Catch him while you still can people.

Was a nice little bonus having MC50 as one of the openers too. Airbourne was the other opener but it’s hard to take that band seriously. They sound great and have lots of energy but just way too derivative of AC/DC.

Next - Off to see Scorpions/Whitesnake on Wednesday night. Tickets were slashed to half-price and managed to snag a couple of great seats...Taking my son along.

Sounds like a great week of live music in Australia! I've never heard of Airbourne, and although the last time I saw AC/DC live happened to be Brian Johnson's 40th birthday (the only reason I remember that one lol) I have so much AC/DC music that I don't know if I need an AC/DC clone in my life.

The funny thing is though, the music they’re putting out is actually better than anything AC/DC have put out in the last 20 or so years.

Went and saw Whitesnake & Scorpions last night. Great performances put on by both but I have to say Whitesnake won the night. Sounded better, more energy and and generally rocked harder and really got the crowd going. Quite a few people were leaving during the Scorpions set but I put that down to more being there to see Whitesnake.

And as I mentioned in the other thread, Tommy Aldridge is absolutely incredible for a man pushing 70. Has lost none of his chops or Stamina. Still as good as he was 30-40 years ago. I doubt there is a better drummer out there at his age.

Doesn’t look we’ll be attending gigs anytime soon. They’re talking 12-18 months before mass gatherings are allowed again. Maybe smaller club shows might happen before then but bigger shows and festivals are definitely gonna be awhile off.

How will Ticketmaster survive? Government subsidy program? Back-alley blow-jobs?

Fucking parasites.

BUT, more to your post Jack, I agree. I don't see much traction in that area until this time next year, and I'm basing that on nothing. Just a sense. A sixth-sense. A...Rock sense.  :abbath:

The odd thing is still not a single summer festival cancelation here in Finland...We all know that they are coming but the government (as usual) is taking their sweet time with this and that ofcourse adds to the pressure for the organizers.

The Missus and I went to go see Igor and the Red Elvises last night. They're a great party band, lots of audience interaction because that's how you survive doing the club circuits. Igor does a great job of making Soviet-era lack of customer care part of his stage act.

IGOR: Is everybody having fun?

CROWD: YEAAAAHHHH!!!

IGOR: Well, we're going to ruin it for you now.

Musicianship was solid in the band and they all were happy to take turns sharing vocals and solos. Lots of positive energy when they were playing. Musically, they have a lot in common with a surf-rock band... one that also incorporates elements of polka, ska, and classical Russian composers. :)

A good time was had by all, planning to see them again when they come back in March.

^So that gig back in May was cancelled as Angry fell sick but was rescheduled to today. Gig was sold out but luckily my sons mates dad is the owner of the venue so was put on the door guest list.

Was an afternoon show. Angry Anderson and band sounded awesome. Played a 75 minute set. Angry was swigging a bottle of Stones Greens ginger wine and drinking red bulls throughout the show and sounded amazing for age 75. Mark Evans the original bass player for AC/DC who played on their first five albums is the current bassist for Rose Tattoo.

My first gig in 2.5 years. My ears are paying the price right now.

Ripper’s in town tonight bringing the best of Priest & Dio. Also Simon Wright will be behind the kit.

I kinda would really like to go but the venue is a pain in the arse and the other obstacle is it being a Sunday night with work the next day.
