Title: The Man on the Silver Mountain in a White Sport Coat
Post by: Zzzptm on March 12, 2018, 05:25:30 PM
Interesting video of Graham Bonnett singing Rainbow's Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow's first big hit.

Note the interesting wardrobe choices, including Mr. Glover's painted-on trousers.

Fun math fact: Although 3 of the band members on that stage are all members, current or former, of Deep Purple, this is the only band they all played in together.

I've never really liked Bonnet's raspy voice for Rainbow...he is a talented singer there's no doubt about it but it just doesn't really work for the Ronnie-era stuff...But he is still better than Joe Lynn Turner though or the new guy.

True. Hearing Graham Bonnett do other songs, he can really own a tune. But he's more a cool dude, and you really need a dungeons and dragons type to do the Dio material.

Which is why I trust Jack Black to do it right. :smug:

Kind of funnily I think the only singer Ritchie has had since Ronnie that could do even some justice to those tracks has been Candice. She made those songs her own and made them work quite well espcially this one:

Yes. Candice DEFINITELY has the D&D vibe going for her.

I read up on how Blackmore's Night is a huge draw at the major Ren. Faires.

Blackmore's Night has a pretty darn big following especially in Germany and I think France too. And yeah they are a big hit with the Ren Faire crowd for obvious reasons I would imagine.

Honestly I would much rather see BN than this current abomination Ritchie is calling Rainbow....Actually I've been kicking myself in the head for not seen BN on those few occations they've played here.

Rainbow will play in Helsinki on April 13th...will...not...be...going.  Deep Purple is playing in Tammisaari in July...will...BE...going.

Just listened to Halford's cover and I had to cut it off. Currently listening to a soundboard recording of Van Halen doing the tune for a soundcheck... now I'm wondering how history would have been different if David Lee Roth had been picked up to front Rainbow... and Joe Lynn Turner fronting Van Halen.

:zomgwtfbbq:

I know, crazy thinking...

Came back to Dio performing it in 1983... WOW, that's the stuff, yeah!

That cover on the This Is Your Life tribute album is horrible. It's like Rob didn't even bother trying...one of his worst vocal preformances ever I think.

Here's a pretty good cover of that song:

Wow, that was an EXCELLENT cover of the song, very much like the original, but just enough difference so you know the artist is paying back with interest.

Agreed...it is among my favourites..

Here's another killer one featuring the incredible vocal talents of mr. ROBERT LOWE
