Yeah, i know they came pretty close after the whole Celebration Day deal, and when Plant pulled out there was speculations that they were going to go on with Myles Kennedy instead. Luckily that never happened. This is meant as musing about "what ifs" anyway.
What i found interesting about Celebration Day was how much Jason shifted the dynamics. Where it used to be John Paul Jones who was the pillar that held the wild cards Page and Bonzo together, now it was the more mechanical ("modern") drumming of Jason that became the pillar, giving JPJ some space to let loose and show (even more than before) what a skilled musician he is.
That would be great to hear on a new album.

These guys are old, let the music as it is settle and mellow. If they made an album and it sucked, that would be their legacy.

You really think so? Regardless of what one might think about 13, does it really have any impact on Sabbaths legacy? Granted, there's a slight difference in that Zeppelin only had that one line-up, and have had very little activity since Coda, whereas Sabbath have been going along all the way in one shape or another (though there were actually some more casual fans who thought they had not been active since the first Dio era when 13 came along).
But i don't think a new album would affect their legacy whatsoever. If it'd be a good album, it'd be like "great, but it's still the old stuff that rules". If it sucked it would just vanish into obscurity for everyone exept hardcore fans...

If it was released and then went nowhere, probably wouldn't tarnish them that much. But Page/Plant have already done unplugged/Moroccan versions of Zep tunes, so what's there left to do?

Something new..?

Walking into Clarksdale wasn't exactly an all time classic. Reform with a new singer. It's better than nothing. If people don't like it, then they don't have to illegally download it! Then they can remaster it for 20 years.
I'd rather Coverdale Page get back together. It's the 25th anniversary and the unreleased tracks need to come out of hiding.

This morning, I Took in my hands the last new quadruple vinyl box set of "How The West Was Won" in a music store.
Very beautiful thing but for a price near 80 €, I'll wait a little ... :)

Does Greta Van Fleet's album count

The closest we'll get to a Zep reunion is if Kingdom Come got back together for a new album. Would sound more Zep than Zep and probably be better too.

3/5's of it is back together, but I think time is their enemy:
