Title: The Fourth Led Zeppelin Album...
Post by: Zzzptm on February 28, 2018, 09:33:23 PM
I started calling it Zoso, but after I read the Creem review of it where the critic used the jacket spine for reference, I thought that was cool and started referring to the otherwise untitled album by that identifying catalog number.

And now, I have to ask what you think is the best song on the album. I used to go with "Stairway to Heaven", but that song has faded over the years in my opinion. "When the Levee Breaks", on the other hand, has risen in my view as one helluva swamped-up, fuzzed-out version of an old blues number. John Bonham practically destroys his kit on that tune and the drone from the guitar and harmonica thunders along amazingly.

To me it's Led Zeppelin IV

Fave song(s) (i can never pick just one) are The Battle Of Evermore, Stairway (played to death, yes, but for a good reason. One of the first songs i remember getting into, and one hopefully to be played in my funeral), Going To California and When The Levee Breaks. A bit of a mixed bag there, from folky ballads to real heavy backbeats. Which in many ways sumarize Zeppelin as a whole.

^^^ So vote in the poll, Billy!

Another one I love is Misty Mountain Hop... it's like I preferred side 1 more when I was younger, but older I reach more for the side 2 tracks.

Didn't notice there was a poll... :P Yeah, MMH is a great one too, so is Four Sticks. Hmmm, gonna revisit side 2 of the album right now.

Pronouncing Zeppelin IV makes it sound like you're a bit too much of a hardcore fan  :)) "I need my Zep fix, man"

Well, at least I'm not calling it "Zoso" anymore. That always got funny looks.

Never liked that "name". You forgot one option, though; "four symbols", which i've heard used more often than "runes"...

Gotta agree with you about Levee ZZZ. I don't think there is any filler on this album it's just that several songs have been played to death. Levee is a great closer on a great album.

And now I do, so I'll use it. :)

I'm a new die hard fan of Led Zep for a little over a year now. Since then, I bought all vinyl albums, including CODA and very recently an original copy of The Song Remains The Same, obtained in exceptional condition.
I had bad prejudices on the band for decades, including that Jimmy Page celebrity I didn'tt understand, compared to Ritchie Blackmore and Tony Iommi.
I was wrong. The guy is a genius, like Plant , Bonham and this exceptionnal musician called Jones.
So, about the album without name, I consider it as Led Zeppelin IV, to follow Led Zeppelin III.
I must also say that I don't understand this systematic LZ Bashing, especially about this artistic theft "shamefully"operated at the expense of Willie Dixon.
to be clear, ALL did that. What makes the difference is how this legacy has been digested and integrated into their own compositions.
This Album IV is a piece of Art.

I remember when I was in college, meeting a street musician who wanted the words to "Going to California". I transcribed them for him and he made it a very lovely part of his repertoire.

Led Zeppelin's untitled 4th album is another.
