If you like that, Gillan's cover of "Living for the City" is a great gateway into Stevie Wonder...

I love working out and waking up to classic funk, really gets me energized. It's music that makes me want to move.

Actually I have been neglecting legs a bit lately...but it's almost running season again (month or so) so I do have to start paying more attention to legs too!
Ian's cover of Living For The City is great! Better than the original I'd say...

That's the only Gillan remaster that I am missing...but it is on my list.

Awesome thread. I've been lifting to Necro a lot lately. If you don't know, he's a rapper who is influenced by metal. Not rap metal, but his lyrics and flow are death metal inspired.

"Space Truckin'" is great for those 20 mins. on the treadmill... fast walk at first, jog for the keyboard solo, slow down and level for the Blackmore volume knob solo, then sprint to the finish.

Legacy Of Kings and Infected are without a doubt their two best albums. Infected is bit heavier and darker which I really love and Legacy Of Kings is more traditional. Crimson Thunder is also a great album.
They are a great underrated band...also very good live band...saw them open for Priest and they were awesome!

"Girl power metal"?
Is it power metal sung by girls?
Or metal about girl power, like Spice Girls meet King Diamond?
It's Swedish, so I'm assuming the latter. :smug:

Well the band is all girls so they've got girl power and they play metal so...
Wouldn't say there's anything King Diamond about them though!

Hahaha! :D
You would woudn't you...but no they aren't. Pure fast rock.
But then again the name is bit ironic as there are no hot nights in the Sahara...

Song you posted was great punk stuff, next one I listened to had some desert in it, so I'm a happy camper. :)

What's the best track from that album?
Discuss.
-
NOW IT'S DARK is not only my favourite from this album but one of my all time favourite Anthrax tunes!
But in all fariness there isn't a single bad track on the album...pure killer no filler this one!
-
Best song is the Trust cover "Antisocial".Still a regular and live favourite in their shows to this day. The two album bookends Be All, End All and Fīnalē are my other favourite songs along with Who Cares Wins which has a pretty cool opening, otherwise for me SOE was rather mediocre Antnrax album
@Charger I noticed Now It's Dark is being played on their latest run of shows. First time in over 25 years.

Some of the recent shows have been festivals so you might be in luck. Also it probably depends on the crowd reaction whether it stays or not. How far off is the Helsinki festival?

Well those have been headline shows at festivals though...but I hope it stays.
Tuska Open Air show for Anthrax is on June 28th and Slayer June 29th.
-
They are playing Nova Rock today and Download over the weekend which they obviously aren't headlining so we'll see whether it stays in the setlist for those festivals.

Going to agree with JtS, "Antisocial" is one of my perennial faves, they deliver the goods with that one.

Antisocial is a good live song but the album version does lack some punch though...

The only stinker is Mystery. Dio(solo) never topped his first two solo albums.
Eat Your Heart Out And Breathless fall into the same category in my book. This was a clear step down from the (almost) pure brilliance of Holy Diver...and Sacred Heart was a clear step down from this.. Dream Evil was a clear step up again thanks to revitalized energy and talent of Craig Goldy.
-
^^ Disagree with your assessment of those songs.
I agree Dream Evil was a step up from Sacred Heart but Ronnie was going for a more commercial element on SH as the MTV era was really taking off.
Goldy only lasted the one album though so there must've of been some issues there.

Formely from Eluveitie...
Folk enfused progressive heavy metal...
Here's a track from the album
It's the Hurdy Kurdy that does it for me...and Anna's sublime vocals.
-
Hey, wow, that's some cool stuff! And I'm always happy when the metal isn't overly operatic or given over to cookie monster vocals.

I do have light weeks and heavy weeks and something inbetween too. I try to change things up from time to time...Lighter weights more reps, Heavier weights less reps.
But I'm still using baby weights even on heavy weeks though... :(
In that pic there's only 16.5kg (36lbs) it was for a triceps exercise called One Arm Triceps Extension.

Question: do you need changes in tempo for a good workout, or do you prefer the same tempo throughout?
-
Question: do you need changes in tempo for a good workout, or do you prefer the same tempo throughout?
Bit variety is good, but honestly the quality of the music is more important than anything else. One of the things I hate about public gyms. It's either just a radio station playing or a mix of all kinds of music which inevitably leads to some horrible music. And working out with ear buds isn't my thing.
-
Working out with earbuds is a great way to get a mess of wax and sweat in your earbuds. :)

Weights today was side 1 of Sabotage.
Walking music was Earth Wind and Fire.
Metal goes with metal. :smug:
-
Metal and rock are best workout music for sure. That's one of the (many) reasons I don't go to public gyms...cause the music they play there usually sucks ass.
-
For Sunday, I am passing on a big weight workout and going instead for an extended walk. No music on this one, I just want to hear all the sounds around me. The weather today is wonderful and I've got my office door open as I type this.
Music for the routine tomorrow, though. :)
-
Today's soundtrack for walking was provided by Truckfighters' great album, Gravity X.
Weights - the Electric Mountain album, by the band of the same name.
-
Very cool zzz for you to post your workout music too! Love it!
No workout music for me this week as it is a rest week.

Thinking about my walk this afternoon, might go with some Mother Engine, great space-stoner instrumental band.
-
Instrumental stuff might be good too...I'm not a big fan of purely instrumental stuff but as a workout music it could work!
-
You might like to try out Bantha Rider. Great hard rock jams. They're on Bandcamp, so you can try before you buy.

Music is wonderful that way, and it's 100% legal, too!
-
Indeed!
And working out has bit of the same effect and doing both at the same time is wonderful...and gives your mind something else to focus on too...which is what I need the most.
-
I've been just thinking about things as I walk these last few days. Philosophical thoughts about nature, people, things...
-
^^^
Oh that sounds dangerous! ;D
-
Not at all, I've been thinking and walking for many years, just now getting back into it. :D

After several weeks of severe pain in my left arm that has made working out impossible I am gradually trying to return to the fold with a little help from the one and only mr. Alice Cooper:
-
Speaking of injury, my left elbow is still not 100% from my fall 2.5 months ago. It's able to almost fully extend and the pain is greatly diminished, but I still have to nurse it and not use it to carry big loads.
-
Well mine was/is more of a repetive strain injury though. Caused by the work I'm doing. Too many repetitions caused a muscle on my arm next to my elbow (don't know what it's called, one of the internal ones under and behind the forearm.) get inflamed...or so I think anyways. It's been getting bit better, but I'm not expecting much of a recovery until my short vacation end of next month...then we'll see if it'll go away for good...might get worse by the time I get there though...
-
Well starting to get back on track again...

OK, so why this CD? Are you mad at yourself or something?
Well I'm always mad at myself for being...well me.
But in all honesty it has been like 10 years since I've last listened to this album I think so I wanted to see if time might have changed my opinion about it.
-
Myself, I like the Gillan side better than the Blackmore side.
-
There is a very strong 80s pop rock vibe to the album which really turns me off. It was already present at the second side of Perfect Strangers but not as bad...and ofcourse they went full on pop with Slaves And Masters....
-
... which is probably why we don't got no Joe Lynn Turner smilies on this here form. :smug:

As I've been walking lately, I've had no music. I've been thinking about physics, biology, absurdist philosophy, pantheism, and other swirling topics. Somewhere along the way, I developed a deeper respect for hands and what they make possible for us.

I do not want to be alone with my thoughts while working out...not a fun place!
Today the thought blocking is provided by a kick ass band from down under!!

That's the final installment to the Infinite Entanglement trilogy tour...recorded at one of the final shows of the tour. The majority of the set consists of song from the trilogy.
Some great songs and great energy. The show is just wonderful...the sound isn't perfect though. It is bit on the thin side...with Guitars and vocals pretty high on the mix...but it is still a great one.
