Am i the only dog guy here?
I've grown up with dogs, all kinds of breeds and sizes, and have seen my parents dogs as equally as much mine well into grown up age. So i know dogs well.
But this is my first actual own dog. I was just gonna get a small, easy to handle terrier or spaniel or something, to have company and a reason to get off my ass and take a walk several times a day.
Ended up with a mistreated and terrified Doberman instead. And it's really much more revarding to see how she's getting calmer, secure about her surroundings and well adjusted. She's my little cuddlemonster :)
Pics to come.

I'm not a dog person, but I'm most comfortable around the big hounds... I guess it's because they're not as needy as smaller breeds. Dobermans can be great to be around when they're calm.

I personally have nothing against dogs they can be cool but I am DEADLY allergic to them. Spending just few minutes in a room with a dog (or even in a house that has dogs even if they wouldn't be in at the moment) I get serious symptoms.
And if I make the mistake of touching a dog and then touching my eyes...oh my god....
If I weren't so allergic I could imagine myself having a guard dog too...but ofcourse I'd much rather have a guard tiger though.

I am not really a dog person - I do like some of them, I guess it's just that I am too much into cats. ;) And I don't like the smell of many dogs. However, there are a few things that I like and even admire about some dogs. One I noticed recently. I was on my way home and waited for the subway. There was a group of about 4 young guys, the kind of group where I immediately go wary when I spot them because they look like trouble. And there was another, peaceful-looking guy with a dog. Not sure what kind of dog, rather tall, but not very tall, a rather friendly-looking crossbreed. For some reason, the guy wore a surgical mask, and the group spotted him and obviously found that him wearing that thing was a proper reason to bother him. So one of them went to him and started to talk to him. I couldn't hear what he was saying, but it was very clear that he was making fun of him and trying to provoke him. I always have a can of pepper spray with me in my pocket, just where I put my right hand. So with my hands in my pockets, I went closer because I felt it would be good to demonstrate that the guy and his dog weren't on their own. Anyway, luckily it turned out that my services weren't needed. The dog had been very quiet before the rowdy (guess that's an oldschool term, not sure which one to use) approached her lordling. But once he came and started to talk to him, the dog got up and started to growl at him. While I was coming closer, the dog got louder and louder, now pretty agressively barking and growling at the stranger. Her owner kept pretty calm and asked the dog to do the same, but obviously the dog was determined to stop that asshole stranger from talking to her lordling the way he did. You could tell from the rowdy's gestures that he was becoming very nervous. Of course he tried to camouflage it by acting 'cool' and laughing etc., but it was clear he felt uncomfortable. He said just a few more things and went back to his group. That was really a pleasure to watch. What I found so amazing was how sensitively the dog reacted and how easily the bad guy was defeated. She had immediately noticed that that stranger had bad intentions, even though he was not really openly aggressive yet, and reacted accordingly. As I describled, I too did feel he was looking for trouble, or rather, to bring trouble to others, but I cannot really explain what it was about him and his group that raised that suspicion. Anyway, the dog seemed to feel ecactly like me, and reacted in what I think was the best way. I had a really good feeling on my way back home afterwards, I was happy for the guy because I can totally relate to how fucked up it feels to be in his position, and he got out of it so easily because he had such a cool dog. I really hope he thanked her adequately.

I truly do love watching sheep dogs do their work.
I find the motions and actions of the sheep dog to be beautiful to behold.

I've grown up with dogs, and have pretty much always had at least one dog. I'm definitely a dog person. They've all had their own personalities and unique characteristics, even in periods when I've had more than one dog from the same litter. Couldn't imagine life without having at least one by my side.

Hilarious dog video (not sure what's the best way to link to it):

Bad news for dogs flying on United Airlines recently... just awful, really, for the one dog the flight attendant put into the overhead storage, there's not any circulation there.
It makes me sad.

^^^ Sounds like something i don't need to know any more about...

I love dogs since I was a child. watching them express their emotions through their body always amazes me .
They calm me down.
I have a Jack Russel who will soon be 3 years old. a faithful companion who knows how to be understood in an incredible way. A so malicious dog, player, hyper nervous and essential in the house despite countless hair loss per day!
Love cats too.

I think I love dogs most the way I love horses most - when they are actively allied with humans in accomplishing a goal.

I was going to set in the right size and everything, but fuck it. Don't bother...

One could always hope some of the dogs involved in the Yulin festival gets infected, so the people involved will be too. Then it can get contained afterwards.

I am very much a dog person. I have had dogs my whole life. Nothing against cats in any way, as I love all animals, but dogs have always been in my life. I have a Rhodesian Ridgeback and a pit bull.

^^^ I'm guessing that's her on yer avatar? Beautie :)

Had to put her down today. She was getting so nervous she started lashing out against kids. Had the worlds worst day yesterday coming to terms with it. Now i'm just numb. Will probably be so the next couple of days...

Billy, what do you mean with "Had to put her down today" ? I must misunderstand ... at least I hope so.

I am afraid you did not misunderstand..
So sorry for your loss Billy...losing a pet is just like losing a family member...because they ARE family members.
-
Sorry to hear that Billy, it's always tough having to make that decision no matter the circumstances.
-
Wow Billy I'm so sorry. I know it hurts and I don't mean to be insensitive but you made the right decision as difficult as it must have been. You don't want anyone getting hurt, especially a child.

 Oh Billy - I just saw this - I feel for you my friend. I have not gotten any better in my mourning of Garfield, I know your pain brother.
I am so saddened by this, I understand your heartache.

Mildly allergic, but I still love them. I have two blue merle shelties.
They recently got hair cuts. First pic is Loki, recently beaten Cancer, the other is younger brother Cody who survived in the freezing winter woods when he was younger running away from home by accident. They're tame but they can bark a mean bark, Cody especially. Family protectors, they watch us like we were their herd.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180930/6213df461c088228434d578aa752f675.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180930/3f87170a58941ba8accade46d6264ace.jpg)

Beautiful collies.
My dog fun recently was watching "A Man and His Dog" sheep herding finals on the BBC. Scotland pipped England by a point, and it was really all down to the youth competitor from Scotland. He and his dog managed a near-perfect run, including a masterful completion of the Maltese Cross.
