Title: Finishing a Book
Post by: Vyn on August 21, 2026, 09:54:05 AM
Tomorrow in the United States collective timezone is Saturday, August 22nd. From 1pm until 7pm I am hosting a celebration of life event for Debbie; people can stop by and remember good times and share good stories. There may be some tears from some folks, but overall the mood is intended to be upbeat.

This is being held later than I would have liked, but the timing has been in the hands of my daughters. There's much drama associated with this event, but ultimately I did everything and the girls are showing up this evening. Tomorrow will be fine.

Upon Saturday's end, the book that was my life together with Debbie will be closed. Like any good book, much will remain with me, and I will think of the good parts for the rest of my life. The bad parts will fade away. But I'm done reading it and this event tomorrow is the last thing that will be written in it.

Hope you'll have a nice event of both celebration of her life and ofcourse some sadness as well as is to be expected.

I will be present in spirit...and will raise a glass in Debbie's memory.

Thanks - very nice sentiments from both of you, I appreciate them.

She had a power wheelchair that also lifts up quite a ways. It's a large piece of gear, weighs a few hundred pounds. She also had a variety of walkers, canes, cases of med supplies of various kinds, and so on. I have been looking for a charitable group to take those items for quite some time. It's more difficult than imagined to donate probably ten grand worth of stuff to people who I have no doubt would appreciate and make good use of. I did not want to toss them in the trash!

Well, finally it came together. One group took all of the stuff except the wheelchair. That happened two days ago. Another group is getting the wheelchair today in a few hours. A lot of things have been falling into place all right around the same time - it's interesting to consider. I'm glad that all of those items are going to get good use. It's bad enough having to deal with debilitating issues, on top of the expense of items designed to help a person's quality of life when they really need it. And insurance simply does not cover things like this power wheelchair. Not required for health, according to those pinheads. Technically, they are correct. But it misses the entire point.

It was very nice, a large turn out and many good memories shared.

Sunday morning, the book is closed.
