Had a morning rain here in Dallas. While it was nice to wake up to, the heat index will be up to about 40C/104F from the humidity it brought in. Oof.

Extreme Heat warnings for the next few days across the south of England/Wales. The current record high for June was 35.6C set in 1976 they think 38C is a distinct possibility!
Further to this they are now predicting 39C on Wed or Thu. And temps across the south and west of Europe are generally 15C above the norm!

That is deadly heat - and since it doesn't typically cause property damage, heat waves don't get tagged as natural disasters here in the USA. Is it a similar case in other nations?

Life-threatening floods today in counties along the Red River. I'm safe where I am, but it's going to possibly be a year of record rains and floods in Texas with the El Niño we have going.

Bit cooler day here today...only 18C (64F) with a breeze. But that's okay...still nice weather...and no rain.

I see there's a general break in the Euro heat later this week, that's good for them.
Texas is gonna be Texas as we head into July. Blackout drapes on my office window so I don't boil in the afternoon.

Just been announced on the news that the hottest part in the country as of about 1pm today is Thorney Island... that's about 2 miles from me... Aaaagh!!

While I sit here and worry about KDC's melting point, Z's buoyancy, and Charger's unusually nice weather (a trap of some sort, no doubt), the weather remains oddly Finland-like here in the middle of the midwestern United States.
My area's well-compensated meteorologist had been calling for rain today, for the past five days. If a 20 C high temperature and sunny skies, with a few puffy white clouds, is considered, "raining all day," then his forecast was perfect!

80F is too hot already...and sunday and monday we will also be getting there as the remains of the west european heatwave arrive...
20-25C (66-77F) is the temp range I enjoy the most.

My favorite range, we get that in Texas in early-mid Spring and mid-late Fall. And a few weeks of Winter, usually.
But from here to about mid-September, looks like we'll be having a standard Texas summer. Highs over 100F for most days and highs from 95-99F on days it ain't over 100. It's an El Niño year, so we should get a fair amount of rain, and that can help cool things off when it happens... but we'll have all that in humidity when it's over.

Well as promised today we got over 28C (82F)....bit too warm for me...But it is beautifully sunny.
Been watering plants and spraying the greenhouse plants with a water sprayer and that's about it.

I read where there are thousands of folks that have died in France due to a heat wave central Europe has been experiencing for the past week and a half or so. I talked to a gal I know in Prague and she confirmed it's hot as hell. Her apartment doesn't have AC due to it's age (in the USA, when someone says that it usually means the place is a hundred years old or so. Any older and it's called, "historic" which means anytime from the mid 1700s to the mid 1800s). Her place was built in 1420.
Said she has been laying on the tile floor in front of her front door, with a fan blowing on her. I said, "hold on a sec" and walked away from the video chat. I came back and said I had to turn my thermostat up a notch because it was getting a little chilly and I didn't want to put on a jacket inside my house. She tried to reach through the internet and choke me ;)

I don't think thousands though... I read about 1300 have died over Europe in the past week or so...most of them ofcourse very old folks.
Naturally it is a lot, but the elderly tend to be in danger when ever the temps go over 30C...every year few hundreds die in central europe. Futile deaths ofcourse since portable AC units would help but it is what it is...

I've got buddies in Europe complaining about how it's illegal to put in portable AC units in their historical buildings because it ruins the aesthetics mandated by law - Sort of like a Homeowners' Association with police authority.
Thing is, I am pretty sure that if our ancestors had a massive heat wave and access to AC, we'd have little condenser unit boxes hanging out of every historically-restored building's window.

Portable AC units around here are mostly indoor units with just a hose through an open window so they don't really do anything to the aesthetics...

Where I've traveled, I've seen open embrace of air conditioning in India, China, Mexico, Canada, and all over the USA.
Many a European nation has been hostile to installing AC solutions in commercial buildings along with historical residential ones. There are even museums where there is a fight about whether or not to install a climate control system that would better preserve the exhibits or to leave such a system out to better preserve the architecture. My wife and I are resolved to visit Europe only in the cooler months, when we travel.

Heat wave coming for my area of the country. By definition that is reaching into the 90s 3 days in a row. I'll be increasing my water intake. Perhaps a good time to wash some vehicles, in the shade, of course. 8)

Over here things are getting cooler again...tomorrow we'll still hit 23-25C (73-77F) but then it might be below 20C again!

Our daily lows are going to be 78F and up for a while, with daily highs in the upper 90s with heat indexes crossing the 100-degree mark.
100 degrees is a nice milestone temp, way better than 38C. :smug:

Seems the heat blast in Europe has moved on, with cooler temps and rain taking the place of the heat. Headlines say total dead in France from that heat is just over 28,000 people.
Graveyards are packed so they're just stacking bloated corpses on the ground in big piles. Decomposition gases are causing the corpses to move about in herky-jerky, unpredictable ways. It's like the start of the zombie apocalypse!

We had our first Thunderstorm of the summer! YEEEEEAAAY!!
Wasn't horribly close, I think the closest hit was about a mile....but still saw couple of beautiful lightnings and enjoyed the rumble!

Today the high was 94, low 74. High humidity all day. Bright and sunny.
Around 2pm it suddenly got almost pitchblack out, wind picked way up, then rained like it was the bible. This little pop up storm lasted about 30 minutes, knocked a bunch of trees over, made kids worry that their 4th of July celebrations would be ruined, then it turned bright and sunny!

Overcast today - since I don't shoot fireworks off I don't mind, and hope it rains all night. BUt I think my hopes are going to be outweighed by the multitude of kids and drunk adults who hope it doesn't ;)

How about when you were younger? I don't do much of that stuff these days, but I have to admit that in my life I have shot off so many fireworks that I could practically be an explosives expert.

When I was younger - oh yeah. Fireworks-o-rama. We used to shoot bottle rockets at each other, which turned into roman candles at one point, then one kid got hit in the back and it stuck. Burned the shit out of his back and to this day he has this amazing looking white scar that looks like a star right in the middle of his back with lines radiating out to the edges of his back. Like someone intentionally drew it, like art. And of course we were always trying to make the loudest explosion as possible. Every few years my dad would bring home some cherry bombs - the real quarter-stick of dynamite kind. They'd blow a crater in the yard the size of a manhole cover and about six inches deep.
The last time I bought any fireworks was probably 2002, and by then it wasn't much of a purchase. I've lived where I currently reside since 2006, and have never fired any off here.

My dad had a good buddy with a prosthetic hand because of a fireworks accident.
We were not allowed to have them, ever.
Having seen other mangled hands and faces over the years, I've never wanted to get into them. They're purely a spectator event for me.

Over here a somewhat historical occurance...
4th straight day of thunder storms! I've been keeping weather journals for 15 years now and not ONCE has that happened before...
I have recollections from the 90s that occuring and once in the late 90s there were 7 days of thunder but that's nothing but a hazy memory now...
Again today couple of rumbles only but they are within a 5 mile radius...

Mix of heat and Gulf moisture means we have a pretty consistent humidity with a 20% chance of afternoon showers most days. Not that it'll rain every day. We just have a shot at it where most of us in Dallas will stay dry but some neighborhood that catches a popcorn shower will get like an inch of rain in an hour and then it's over.

Not us!
We've actually been having a colder than usual summer so far...especially night temperatures have been unseasonably cold with around 9C (48F) which is september night temps usually.
There's only been two nights so far with temps over 15C (60F) (which is the norm this time of year) so this has been a very unsually cold summer...so far.

Warm day today. 26C (80F) and no wind so it's pretty warm...I was gonna do some more painting but decided not to as I had a late night and got to be only around 7am so I'm bit tired...maybe tomorrow as the weather seems to be co-operating tomorrow as well!

Well I've had quite a bit of extra work during the past week so I've been having late nights...Usually I'm at bed by 4-5am but now it's been couple of nights that have been past 6am up to 7am...
I still try to get my 7-8 hours but it tends to be lighter sleep quite often when the night go long.

There were parts of the Texas Hill Country that got over 12" (30cm) of rain last night. There's a lot of limestone underneath a shallow soil, so floods happen quickly and become severe rapidly out there.
I'm up in Dallas, where there's a thirstier soil layer and we haven't had as much rain, so I'm doing all right where I'm at.

12" of rain! YIKES! A small town about 30 miles from where I live got about 5 " of rain in just under 3 hours on sunday and based on the pictures it was flood central over there...with highways being washed away and everything...
I think the highest rainfall here where I live in one rain shower was about 4 inches and that was a lot! :D
Another nice 26 c (80F) day today...and I'm doing that painting today...not as much as I'd hoped to do but still...should have the window boards done by tomorrow.

Just got a news flash that there is a Tornado Warning issued for San Antonio area just now. That's highly unusual for July, we usually have a heat dome in place that gives us calmer weather in exchange for 100F-degree heat.

Rainy day here today as well. Temp is still surprisingly high at 19C (65F) eventhough it's raining...that's kind of nice.
Next week will be a cold one though with temps around 15C (60F or below) which is extremely COLD this time of year.

Well few days of NOT hot here. temp's around 17C (63) now and tomorrow it should be less...with a northernly breeze to boot.

104F/40C with the heat index from humidity here. I will stay indoors where the temps are 27F/15C cooler and much less humid!

Air temperature highs over 100F all this week, heat index takes those another 5-10 degrees higher. Air conditioning keeps the edge off things and keeping the drapes pulled keeps the AC from having to work too hard. I got the ceiling fan and standing fan going in my office, keeps things nice.
Tropical depression #2 formed up off the Florida Panhandle and with the heat dome over the US Southeast, it's likely to track westward towards Texas. If it goes WSW or SW in its track, it could organize and strengthen over the open waters. If it stays along the coast, it'll be a bunch of thunderstorms having a rowdy bar crawl, dumping rain and hail as they work their way west.

After 2 weeks of hot dry weather we have had a couple of days where the temps have been closer to the norm for the time of year, but will rise again by the end of the week!

Odd weather today - downpour for 5 minutes, then 20 minutes of nothing, then downpour for 5 minutes, then 30 minutes of nothing, then repeat. Nice and warm, though.

Hot days will become hot and hazy days here in Texas as smoke blows in from the Western USA and dust shows up from the Western Sahara.
The dust has a drying effect on the air, so it will be suppressing the Atlantic hurricane season until it dissipates around the end of August.

It's quite fresh today... temps are still about normal for the time of year but the for the first time in weeks it's not been "Hot"!!

With the temperature in the 80s, an incredibly humid day today. My gauge says 74% humidity. That is the highest I have ever seen it when it is not raining. Doing chores outside this morning felt like I was working in a swamp.

Yeah, it is really rough in the humidity. Body sweats, but it can't evaporate, so you're left being coated with water increasing in temperature. When that hits me, I head to a cold shower and stay inside. I don't need to have heat exhaustion ever again.

Try playing a tennis match in that stuff. Did it a few times decades ago. They don't cancel tennis matches because it is too hot or humid.
