Gadgets / Items / Things
This one might be tricky at first, but I think we'll fill it out.
"Needle Gun" by Hawkwind can lead things off with a SpaceBrock tune that mixes up a number of Moorcock milieus as Elric dances to a song that makes a Jerry Cornelius reference, the Needle Gun in question.
-
I'll see your Needlegun and raise you a Ray Gun! Compliments of Thin Lizzy, off of their first long player:
-
Raygun? I think you'll find the thread for Australian break dancing is over there... :smug:
-
:redcard:
I'm having a hissy fit!!! My whole reason for suggesting the topic was Hawkwind's Needlegun!!
-
Ah we went for a new one just like that...
Well I'll go with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY for my first pick then as this song was the first one that came to mind.
So come on and step inside the MASS MURDER MACHINE!
-
Pick number 1
Black Sabbath - Time Machine
Decided to go with a Tony Martin version from the Cross Purposes tour.
-
:redcard:

:smug:
Hope you weren't also wanting to do Deep Purple's "Pictures of Home", as those pictures are definitely a thing. :)
-
No. 2
Judas Priest - Electric Eye
From their transformative, "Screaming for Vengeance," LP, this song has always been one of my faves.
-
For my second pick I'm going with MOTÖRHEAD I thought about Bomber first but I believe that was used before in another list so I'll go with the prettiest card in the deck instead!
Here's a rare preformance on Jimmy Fallon's tv show!
-
Pick number 2
The Jam - Girl on the Phone
-
I will carry forward on the Hawkwind front with "Orgone Accumulator":
Cool slide show to go with the track. Lemmy's playing bass, if that helps Motorhead fans get into it. :smug:
And then when you look up *what* an Orgone Accumulator is, you got a big ol' rabbit hole awaiting!
-
Drop the Weapon - Deep Purple
Now I wonder if I could do all 10 songs from Purple and Hawkwind... :smug:
-
I would probably leave this one last if I was doing an acending top ten list but that's not what we're doing plus I don't want one you to steal it from me so here it is!
This is about a book. A book you probably shouldn't read but once you start you just can't put it down.
BIBLE BLACK by some guys that used to be in BLACK SABBATH!
And this LIVE one is extra special as it has a little interview with Ronnie in the beginning!
-
Pick Number 3
The Clash -Tommy Gun
-
No. 3
Black Sabbath returns to the list with RJD on vox telling us about Computer God.
-
Oooh! Nice one! I forgot to think about that one!
-
Two things from the early days of rock and roll...
Jerry Lee Lewis brings us Great Balls of Fire
And Carl Perkins delivers some Blue Suede Shoes
Carl was on his way to the top of the charts when he had a car accident that sidelined him long enough for Elvis to take things over.
-
I used to think that Mr. Perkins's car accident was along the same lines as IBM choosing not to buy Microsoft's OS and just license it: a black and white outcome that would have led to huge success for Carl (and IBM) had things went the other way.
But as time goes on, I don't think that anymore. Carl was a B-lister and always would have been, sans a hit here or there. Elvis's rocket to fame might have been a bit delayed had Carl Perkins not been in that accident, but I think he would have gotten there regardless. He was Elvis the Pelvis, after all. Would have been interesting to see how things played out if Eddie Cochran had not died. I think he would have been Mr. Presley's biggest competition over time.
-
I did think about Computer God, but went with Time Machine instead.
Pick number 4
Siouxsie and the Banshees - Metal Postcard
From their debut album Scream that came out about 1980... possibly my favourite Banshees track.
-
For my #4 I'll go with an item that just keeps moving forward somewhere no matter what we do...you can stop one but somewhere somehow there is a CLOCK THAT TICKS ON!
This is BLACKMORE's NIGHT and Ritchie throwing a bit of a hurdy gurdy solo!
-
^^^
I'll check that in the morning!
Pick number 5
Bruce Dickenson - The Book of Thel
A stella song by Bruce, up there with any Maiden effort.
-
For my 5th I'll go with an item made to kill...for one million per shot.
This is ALICE COOPER telling the story of THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN.
Ps. Nothing away from Lulu's song but honestly this one should have been the theme for the movie!
-
Marilyn Manson extols the virtues of having a Lunchbox!
-

Elvis' talent as a singer was truly remarkable. Whenever I put him side-by-side with another artist doing the same song, he's clearly singing at a championship caliber.

Note so self: remember to post every day!
Pick number 6 - and trying to keep away from my usual suspects, so...
Foetus - Hammer Falls
Quirky, mid-tempo, but heavy at times.
-
Something everyone needs, Deep Purple has: a Portable Door!
-
And everyone's favorite cult has a tune about amplifiers: The Marshall Plan
-
For Number 6 it's not a clock but a PART of a clock...a big clock.
This is DELAIN and PENDULUM!
One of my favourite tunes by them...
-
Pick number 7
Stiff Little Fingers - Suspect Device
Some more "punk" picks on my list I notice!
-
For my 7th pick I'll go with a SAVATAGE tune...and this is about an item that has multiple useages...
THE WHIP this one!
-
^^ The Suspect Device is from Inflammable Material, a double-thingy-thing-thing there! Well played, KDC!
I want to go with something more gadget-y for my next pick, so let me rummage about...
... ah! Here it is!
Razor Boys "Toys"
And toys can be all kinds of things that get all over the floor when the kiddos get to playin'!
Also it's in the punk area of things, thanks again to KDC for putting me into that area of the musical territory.
-
Pick numero 8
The Who (with Elton John) - Pinball Wizard
From the film Tommy, this must have been very early in Elton John's career. This version is a little more varied than the original.
-
^ But Elton 100% takes it over and makes it his own song. He's brilliant with that tune!
-
I have fallen behind! You all are booking along and I can see you in the distance (but there's one too many and wearing a skirt...has Linda been hiding out amongst us this entire time?) so expect a rectifying post soon :)
-
^^^
Huh!? Not quite sure what you mean?
Pick number 9, I wasn't going to do my usual suspects, but I rather like this one...
Hawkwind - Computer Cowards
A song about trolls
-
Mother Engine "Tokamak"
If you want space rock, then here it is. :) This is a track I can drift away and fall asleep to... there are sections of intensity, but it is overall a patient composition, aware of the time between two far distant suns.
-
Oh did I fell behind here?
Bugger!
I'm gonna carry on with the theme of the previous song....
This comes from the second GUINTINI PROJECT album which is rather brilliant and this is a rather brilliant song...
It's called REACTOR!
-
Last Pick
Marillion - Torch Song
From the 1987 album Clutching at Straws, the last album with Fish on vocals.
-
It's hammer time for my 9th pick!
This is from the Legacy Of Kings album which was my introduction album to HAMMERFALL and it still holds a very special place in my heart...and this is one kick ass tune from that album and it's called
LET THE HAMMER FALL!!
-
Looks like I'm going to have to sit back and enjoy what others post for this game. Had a big ramp up at work so my time has become non-existent. As far as my previous message, my meaning was that everyone took off leaving me behind (because I couldn't keep up posting) and there was a time when we weren't all dudes and there was one woman on this forum (the Linda reference).
-
Yes...
:sorry:
We should always just wait for others before moving on....that was extremely rude of us!
-
I had a ton of work stuff as well, I just plan to catch up when I can on things like this. I usually post 15 picks to a top 10 thread, so I have a cushion there, usually. :smug:
-
Ah heck, no worries, please continue rock on daily! I was just trying to explain my earlier message, not so much as to complain :)
-
For my final pick I'm gonna open up another book!
This one comes from the mind of TONY MARTIN and it's called BOOK OF SHADOWS!
-
^ YES!
-
One I'm not posting, but it counts:
Pink Floyd "Another Brick in The Wall"
Dreary and desperate stuff, it came out right as I entered my teens and was sort of an anthem around our school until we graduated.
-
This one I know Vyn for sure will remember... and maybe also KDC and Thel...
The Spinners "Rubberband Man"
One of the catchiest dang tunes ever to come out.
-
A catchy tune, for sure!
Imagine that rubberband man wiggling his way up the Stairway to Heaven!
-
Or even a Stairway to Cleveland
