Title: New GILLAN boxset coming out in 2025!!!
Post by: Charger on December 04, 2024, 07:21:39 AM
The new Gillan 7-CD box set offers a comprehensive collection of the band's work during the
years from 1978 to 1982, when they rose to prominence in the New Wave of British Heavy
Metal (NWOBHM) scene.

The set includes seven albums from this era, featuring studio recordings, a live album, and a
wealth of B-sides and bonus material. The albums featured in this set are as follows: Gillan
(The Japanese Album) – Originally released in September 1978, this was the debut of the band
formed by Ian Gillan after leaving the Ian Gillan Band. It marked a shift away from jazz fusion to
a heavier rock sound. Mr. Universe – Released in 1979, this was a key album that solidified
their success, featuring a mix of hard rock and NWOBHM influences. Glory Road – A 1980
release, this album is considered the height of the band’s success, both commercially and
musically. Future Shock – Released in 1981, this album continued the band’s momentum, but
guitarist Bernie Tormé left shortly afterward. Double Trouble – A double album from 1981 that
combined studio tracks and live performances and marked Janick Gers' debut as guitarist.
Magic – Released in 1982, this was the band's final studio album before they disbanded after
their last performance at Wembley Arena in December 1982. Live From Reading '80 – A live
album capturing the band’s powerful live performances at the Reading Festival in 1980.

The collection includes a new interview with Ian Gillan conducted by Rich Davenport, providing
deeper insights into the band's history and the albums. The audio has been remastered from
the original tapes where possible, ensuring high-quality sound. The packaging is designed in a
7” x 7” format, with 32-page booklet, offering a unique visual presentation for collectors.
This set is a valuable offering for fans of Gillan and collectors of rock history, especially from
the era of NWOBHM, showcasing the evolution of a band led by one of rock’s iconic vocalists.

Do you know if it's in conjunction with the other band members that released Gillan albums on CD so they could get back some of the money they were owed?

Who knows....but considering it's been over 40 years one would assume they've gotten over it by now! :D

Well one day late but I'm still counting this as a birthday present for myself!

IT HAS ARRIVED!

The first set contains The Japanese Album, Mr. Universe, Glory Road and Future Shock in a faux vinyl like sleeve and the second one inlcudes Double Trouble and Magic.

Also a 30 page large booklet is included with extensive liner notes by Rich Davenport. But sadly again no lyrics...what is it with these boxsets these days to not include lyrics?

Also the boxset itself was NOT signed by Ian instead I got a picture (shown on top) with his signature...but that's part of the course as those are easier to do over a long period of time instead of quickly signing a bunch of actual boxsets...so it's understandable. Although ofcourse less cool.

All in all a very cool package. But it being over 7" big it won't fit anywhere in my cd shelves! Goddamnit! But I'll put it next to my Sabbath and other over sized sets.

Price wise I'm saying it was worth it. After all it's 7 cds of stuff so even with the postage it was just 8€ a cd!

The sound is quite crisp and the remastering is solid. I don't think there's a huuuge difference between these and the 2007 remasters that I have. Maybe the keyboards are bit more prominent...I don't know...

But they sound great non the less!
