I'll start the discussion with the Cowboys aren't supposed to suck THIS early in the season...
-
Chiefs pulled down a win last week, avoiding OT by a toe. Facing off against the Bengals in about fifteen minutes. Going to go pop some popcorn for me and the wife, and will watch it until such time as they either suck so bad it hurts, or they dominate so bad it's boring lol
-
The Chiefs managed to notch another win. Not due to executing a more commanding strategy, or more performant athleticism, or anything having to do with them. Rather, the football gods flipped a cosmic coin and it came up red and white.
Could just as easily have been the Bengals celebrating a Sunday win.
So, I'm glad that my hometown team is 2-0, but have this empty feeling where my confidence for the rest of the season should be.
After the Raiders rubbed their face in the dirt, I'm thinking the Ravens are going to be seriously looking for a win next week against...who is on deck? Oh yeah, the Cowboys. Good luck Z!
-
Hard rain is gonna fall on the Cowboys...
and then turn to steam when it hits Coach McCarthy's chair... sucker is RED HOT!
-
KC-Chargers are 10-10 in the 4th Quarter...
... guessing Vyn's on the edge of his seat, either mentally or physically.
-
I was on the floor after the first quarter, wherein the Chiefs played the worst football I have ever seen in my life. I was stoked when they finally started playing for real, and the smartest thing they did was letting the clock burn off at the two minute warning. Hard to fathom the Chiefs are 4-0, but I'll take it!
I haven't caught any Dallas games, but note that they are 2 and 2. Are they looking good for the season?
-
There's a huge mix in the middle, power rankings are garbage stats right now. Equality of talent for lots of teams can produce a mess like that, which means a lot more games just got a lot more interesting.
As for the Cowboys... they won against the Giants but in a way that did not instill confidence that they'd perform strongly across from a tougher side than the Giants. McCarthy's seat is still running hot to boiling.
-
The city of Dallas no longer has a football team after yesterday's blowout courtesy the Detroit Lions.
Score was 47-9, a historic loss for Dallas on Jerry Jones' birthday, no less.
Temperatures on McCarthy's seat were so hot that climate scientists are asking for sanctions if he's not fired soon.
-
I watched that game (since the Chiefs, you know, are lounging somewhere tropical). They would show Jerry's face everytime some bad play happened on the part of the Cowboys. He got a lot of airtime.
-
Man, it's a massacre.
-
Question to Vyn:
How many games with the KC Chiefs win by *more* than 7 points this season? So far, it's just the Saints and 49ers.
-
Two - and you named them - per game avg. is exactly 7, and looking to the rest of the season their dance card is supposedly "easier".
Their offense has struggled this entire season. It's almost as if, as a team, they only have so much focus in the bank, and they spent so much of that focus on defense that it took away from their offense. Because, why have both?
Although, when the goal is "win" it seems their strategies have been hitting the mark. I would feel more comfortable about it all if they would show some dominance on the field every so often, rather than this "seat-of-the-pants" approach.
-
Yeah, it's like they're gonna win... but... just...
-
Chiefs vs Broncos - Broncos held a small lead most of the game, then the Chiefs managed to grab a two-point lead. Broncos got the ball, ran the clock down to one second in the 4th quarter, and setup for an easy 35 yard FG.
The odds of their kicker not making the FG were exceedingly small. The odds of our special teams blocking the kick were microscopically small.
We blocked the kick and recovered the ball. One second clicked by and the Chiefs won it.
...but...just...
:)
Chiefs are now 9-0 for the season!
Oh, to add - when KC managed to do the one and only thing they had any agency to do to win that game, people in Red Deer Canada could hear the cheers from that stadium (the game was in KC). Here was a football stadium with tens of thousands of people, most dressed in red, at three o'clock on a sunny Sunday afternoon in the midwest US, and I mean it exploded with excitement!
-
16-14, Chiefs >barely< win!
-
After getting roundly stomped by the Bills last weekend, today saw The Chiefs dominate the field against a lesser opponent in a manner suited to a 2-time Super Bowl championship winning team that is on track for number three in a row.
Until the 4th quarter, when the Chiefs' defense decided to stay on the bench and let the Panthers do whatever they wanted. And if that wasn't enough, the refs called the Chiefs on multiple impactful penalties - pass interference at least three times and personal fouls at least twice (in the five minutes). Maybe more. The Panthers ended up forcing OT, which somehow the Chiefs managed to prevail.
So, now at 10-1, but man are they RICKETY.
-
It's like an old school Ric Flair wrestling title defense. You think the old man's done and dusted and then WHAMMO the Nature Boy comes out of nowhere with a controversial finishing move because the ref didn't see he had a loaded boot or his manager did the chairing or something like that.
If KC does the three-peat, that Super Bowl is gonna be so close. I'm liking that. :)
-
I hope they manage to get it. Not just because they're my default team, but because it is such a monumental thing to accomplish and I'd like to be alive when someone finally managers to do it.
IF the Chiefs pull off three in a row, the city of Kansas City will party so hard that the entire country is going to go into an economic downturn because nothing will be getting done for a month in a ten county area.
-
Would like to see that.
-
Much like the Cowboys yesterday, the KC Chiefs won their most recent game. They played the Raiders at Arrowhead stadium, held the lead for most of the game, trailed by two points all through the 4th, and I'll let you guess what happened at the end.
-
Magic and Unicorn Happiness put them ahead to win the game. :smug:
-
I will give the announcers credit: they only mentioned Travis Kelce's girlfriend being at the game one time. And even then, the producers cut to a shot of her celebrating a "no look lateral" that Kelce tossed to a teammate as he himself was being tackled. It was a good play, and I didn't think the hoopla or shot of her was out of line. They didn't even comment on her, just showed her, in among shots of other folks too. So, well played all around.
You pegged the ending Z!

If KC wins the Super Bowl by one point in the last seconds of the game, I will slow-clap their performance for a good, long while. More than any other team this year, they're showing that winning is... winning. No need to complain about "ugly wins" that are still wins, that is what I learn this year.
-
Hahaha, that is for sure.
They have individual sparks of genius here and there. But, seriously, they suck as a team this season.
-
Chiefs vs Bills
AFC Championship Game
Today
The Bills always win against the Chiefs during the regular season. They are 0-4 against the Chiefs in playoff matches.
Will this be the year that the Bills finally breakout of the SuperBowl freeze out Mahomes locked them in when he joined the NFL?
Or will the Chiefs be one step closer to the three-peat?
One thing I think is for certain - if KC does not win today Taylor Swift's boyfriend will retire from the NFL. But if they win, and especially if they pull off the 3 SuperBowl wins in a row, I think he'll stay. I mean, why not go for FOUR Super Bowls in a row? Who would bail on a chance for that kind of thing?
-
AFC Champeenship gonna be lit, as the kids say.
Meanwhile, Jerry Jones recently hired Whatshisname as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. This is a team that is not getting past the Wild Card round, if it makes it to the playoffs, so long as Jerry Jones is involved in its affairs.
-
I was surprised Jones hired Schottenheimerschmidt rather than any of the tried and true, big name head coaches that were in play. You know, those guys who have been successful as actual head coaches?
Jerry clearly knows something others do not. In the same way a schizophrenic sees and hears things no one else does.

32-29 Chiefs.
Looks the the Eagles and the Chiefs in this seasons Superbowl. Sunday, Feb. 9th!
That's was a good game and I think KC looked more like a SB-worthy team than they have since this season's start!
-
Regarding the Cowboys: One thing we know is that Kellen Moore did not use very much of the 3 hours the league permitted him to interview for the HC spot. McCarthy also walked out early. It's a sign that they didn't want the job as offered, and they didn't want to waste time trying to change Jerry's mind. Nobody wants this job, I think, and Whatshisname just took it for the same reasons I would... damn, that's a crazy pay bump and I can ride that out until it crashes and then be pretty much set for retirement, if I live within modest means.
***
Chiefs looked STRONG yesterday and the Bills were giving it their all, as well. Coaches in Philly are studying footage of Hunt and coaches in KC are watching the frame-by-frame on Saquon Barkley... Just as KC definitely looks SB-worthy, so do the Eagles. I look forward to this grand final matchup for all the 2024 marbles.
-
Agree, this should be a good match up!
I hadn't heard about Moore and McCarthy bailing early like that. Interesting. Jones sure has created a horrid culture when no one want to work for the guy anymore. And I think you're right about Schottenpuffnstuff taking the big career jump for no other reason. They guy was not on anyone's HC role list, at all, so he probably did jump all over it when the Cowboys called.
Worst case scenario, he makes bank. Best case, he shows he has skills and makes the permanent switch to "head coach" and can go to any other team should the need arise.
But damn, why does Jerry Jones have to be so...Jerry Jones 24/7.
-
Because Chainsaw Dan is no longer owning a team?
So, slight subject change... is there paperwork I need to file on becoming a KC fan? Is there a trial period or anything like that?
-
Since you are neither a Chargers or a Raiders fan, or for that matter a Broncos fan, you can join immediately.
-
Filling out the form now... who should I put down as a backup team in case of emergency?
-
Bears :P
-
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
this is just hazing the new guy, right? :D
-
:fail3:
-
Just got my official KC Bandwagon 2025 authorization email, nice turnaround time on that!
After that, there are a set of interviews for becoming an actual fan, so I've got some prep work for those.
-
lol
I work with a guy who is one of those "superfan" people. For the Chiefs, of course.
He has tickets to all the games, etc.
He also has an old schoolbus he painted in Chiefs colors, with the logo and all that. During home games he carts his other fan buddies in it, out to the game - does the tail-gate thing with BBQ and beer.
-
Yeah, I've been told by the recruiter to definitely start checking out red and white face paint brands, see what's the best fit for me.
-
I'm a stealth fan - I don't own face paint but do watch the games when I can. But I'm a native so I get a pass, I think foreign fans have to wear the face paint at least once annually.
-
Yes, it's once per regular season and again in postseason play. Best to do the postseason one in the first round to make sure one doesn't get cut from the fan roster if there's an early exit. We're encouraged to wear face paint more often than the one postseason, as there's a bonus structure tied to that metric.

HOT UPDATE:
Tay-Tay is at the Grammy Awards ceremony tonight, whilst her boyfriend is in Nawlin's prepping for his Super Bowl gig next weekend. She may make history by becoming the first female artist to win album of the year five times, and Kelce may make history next weekend by winning the Super Bowl three times in a row.
Tensions mount. Who will win, who will lose? If she wins, and he loses,or vice-versa, will there be a clashing of egos on the home front? If they both win, will ego-inflation become so massive as to make it impossible for them to fit in the same room at the same time anymore?
If they both lose, will their shared misery tighten their bond or tear them apart, as each blames the other for distracting them when they should have been focusing more on their dream?
If they get married and have kids, how will their children ever live up to the bar set by their parents? Holy shit!
-
"And starting for the Chiefs is Taylor Kelce, the singin' tight end..."
-
lol
Well, Taylor did not win. Beyonce won...for a country album. That, on top of 25% tariffs on MX and CA convince me we are, in fact, living in an alternate universe at the moment. I'll be busy over here looking for the door back to normal.
-
Sunday, Sunday, Sunday - Super Bowl time!
On paper, the Eagles are the better team. But they're missing two things. Mahomes, who can do impossible stuff out of nowhere, and Andy Reid (a former Eagle himself!!) who always seems to have some gadget play in his pocket to whip out at the last second.
I mean to say, the Chiefs played like losers all season yet almost won every single game. That's not luck.
So, it's either going to be the Chiefs by 2 points in OT, or the Eagles win 56 to 3.
-
Oooof 17 for the Iggles and KC is looking for anything but a goose egg
-
Yeah, looks like my second option is playing out and the Chiefs are getting stomped. Still a lot of game left but KC best figure it out over halftime.
-
Well, just over two minutes left and it's 14 Chiefs, 40 Eagles.
Hahahaha. Welcome to the Chiefs Kingdom, Z, this is what it means to be a true fan :)
-
And, it's over. No three-peat for KC. Final: Chiefs 22, Eagles 40. Where the F was that scoring for the Chiefs in the first three quarters of the game? They waited until the last three minutes if the damn game to do anything lol
Of course, that was probably more the Eagles coasting than anything. But still.
-
My wife was asking, "Where were those scores in the first 3 quarters?"
My answer was, "Same place those Eagles second-stringers were, not on the field!"
It's like the Chiefs defense had all their attentions on how to stuff the Barkley run, they forgot that Hurts could hustle up the middle or throw a pass.
The Chiefs offensive line just wasn't there at all and the Eagles defensive line was. Mahomes getting sacked so many times without the Eagles doing a blitz is a telling stat.
Oof, the heartbreak.
Still, said the philosophical onetime Cowboys fan, they were *in* the Big Game. And when they retool for 2025, they won't have a certain obnosticaed zillionaire poking around in their business, hiring no-name head coaches and stunts like that.
-
Yeah, it was painful to see the Eagles dropping Mahomes so many times on non-blitz plays.
Mahomes is a genuine "generational" QB. He legit has skills that set him apart. But he can't do his job if the O-line doesn't do theirs, and they didn't even show up.
Chris Jones is world-class, but for as big as he is he can't replace an entire D-line. Who apparently fucked-off with the O-line to smoke some pot out behind the dumpsters while the game was being played.
-
In other news, I really enjoyed the Jeep commercial with Harrison Ford whispering his last name.
In other other news, there is no way I can unsee those damn misshapen heads from the Tubi commercial.
