I fell victim to a sales email a couple of weeks ago, from Gotham Sound out of Long Island, NY. The email promoted a pocket recorder called a Deity PR-2. After my (now not so recent) experience with such things at work, I was intrigued. So I read up about it, and got suckered into buying it.
It arrived a few days ago, and this thing is fantastic! Great value for the money - I don't see it taking the pro space over, but for family events, or if you're an "influencer" and need a small device on the cheap, this delivers the goods.
Comes with a lav mic, a belt clip, a micro SD card, a couple of batteries...everything you need to start using it immediately.
This is sounding like I work for that company haha. No, it really is just a cool little recorder with specs you can't normally touch for less than a grand. And this whole thing cost me $250.
Here's someone who actually does work for Deity talking about it:

Those things are nice kit, indeed. Great price point.

Vyn the new hot thing in the podcasting world?

From what I gather it is picking up steam; the devices are always sold out due to overwhelming demand and their smart business move of keeping it that way. A big seller, which I can understand, is its timecode capabilities. The thing has its own, can push to other devices, or accept timecode form something else. Makes synching with cameras super-easy, so podcast folks can film their shit and match the audio up without a lot of fuss. And do it without having to spend a ton of cash or get a degree in electrical engineering.
