So today sees the start of the Olympics in Paris.
I shall ignore the Opening Ceremony (as I never watch that nonsense!).
I'm looking forward to a number of events, particularly the Track and Field.
Hoping to see the British match the medal tally from last time.

Not bothering with the openings either!
I'm looking forward to the Archery! Love that stuff! Might check some other markmanships as well...and ofcourse athletics once they start...
Not expecting any medals for Finland...we might get one from 22.lr rifle but probably not.
I watched some Rugby yesterday for the first time ever! Good Lord that is one crazy ass sport...All I really got out of it is someone has the ball and then everyone jumps the guy and then a ref blows his whistle and then the other team gets the ball and everyone jumps on that guy again! :D

I saw there were Marie Antoinettes lugging around their heads in the opening ceremony and decided...

Well, after nearly 3 days of action GB seems to have started ok.
We missed out on a medal in the Men's Cycling Time Trial because he got a puncture (missed out on a Bronze by 2 seconds and the puncture cost him at least 15 seconds), having said that the Women's equivalent saw a surprise Silver after a fancied US cyclist had a crash which almost certainly cost her a Silver (and Bronze by a narrow margin).
We won our first Golds today, one in Equestrian and another in Cross Country cycling. GB are 7th in the medal table with 2 G, 4 S and 3 B. Surprisingly US are only in 6th and South Korea, Japan and China are leading the standings with 5 Gold each. But very much early days at the moment.

I have seen very little of the summer Olympics, and oddly enough the one bit I did catch (happened to be walking through the living room while my wife had it on TV) was sand volleyball. The USA vs. Czech Republic.
SAND volleyball. CZECH REPUBLIC.
I cannot imagine that there is a huge sand volleyball following in that LAND-LOCKED country. But, what do I know?
They lost, or rather, they got buried up to their collective neck and then had sand kicked in their collective face by the USA team.

Just watching some archery as I'm writing this....
Always makes me wanna buy a bow myself to accompany my crossbow!

I didn't watch as much of the Olympics this time as I usually do. I'm wondering if it's because the UK were underperforming, yes we beat our total medal haul from London 2012 but far too many of those were Bronze. Only 14 Gold (22 in Tokyo) and way too many medal hopefuls dropped out through injury/illness or otherwise failed. 7th in the overall medal table (I think we were 3rd or 4th in Tokyo)... even the Dutch got more Golds than we did!

Brexit, probably. :)

Well you can still feel pretty good as Finland didn't get a single medal!!
-
The USA decided it didn't want to win any medals in relay races. Again. If they gave medals for screwing up baton hand-offs, we would have multiple gold medals.

The USA have always had a problem with the relays... but, if they actually get the baton round they usually win in a world record time!

Sorry about that. :(

Quite the backlash has come on our historically poor preformance.
People are blaming the atheletes, the atheletes are blaming the management and management blaming eachother...
Hard to say where the real blame lies but it has to start from the junior side of things...kids just don't care enough about sports anymore and don't put in the hours needed to get good enough.

Just get winter rally driving in as a sport, Finland will clean up!
