Title: Perspective
Post by: Vyn on May 26, 2024, 01:55:34 PM
I've been reading a forum called Quora for about fifteen years. I've never actually posted there, but it used to be a place where questions were posted and people who knew a thing or two would contribute answers. It was, back in the day, great. It has gone downhill over the years, to the point where other than a few people it is a cesspool of nonsensical bullshit.

Those few people keep me going back to it. One of the legit posters there is a guy named Roland Bartetzko. For the past 2 years or so he has been in Ukraine helping their military with supplies. He shared this picture that one of his colleagues recently took:

That former PoW is clearly stoked to get that apple. Right at this moment, I have a few apples sitting on my kitchen counter. They're good apples. I don't get that emotional when I hold one of them, though.

It's all about perspective.

It's important to be able to pause for gratitude, to take in even a few small moments.

Yesterday at church, a 4-year-old roped me into helping her color a digital coloring book. I have one on my phone because the same kid a few weeks ago told me how to download and install it from the app store, who am I to refuse free tech support? :)

Anyway, with digital coloring books, I am the straight man. I pick a color for an element in the picture, like brown for hair, and then as I am about to click on the element, she ninja's me on the color and I wind up granting someone bright green hair. The struggle over the mountains was mighty and hilarious as I kept going for dark brown and she kept hitting the fuchsia.

As she giggled and messed with my sensible plans, I was giving thanks internally for a moment of peaceful, innocent fun.

Though life is usually a rough struggle and filled with some kind of pain it's essential to realize just how blessed many of us are.
Living on a disability assistance is hard but I have a place to live and food and tons of CD and movies too enjoy
Many do not have even close enough to live a dignified life 😑
