Title: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: Charger on April 18, 2024, 09:42:09 AM
So time for another Top 10 list!

This time lets go for 10 favourite Title tracks of all time.

Lets make a limitation though so that we won't do the easy way out and just do 10 Sabbath tunes!

So this time ONE entry per band! ONE! Not two not three but ONE! This should make this bit harder and bit more thought needs to be given.

Question before we start.

Will we be doing a list in order 10 -> 1 or just random order? I'm okay with both.

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Paranoid, The Mob Rules, Heaven & Hell... ok, I pick just ONE of those??? Gonna be at least 3 honorable mentions as a result of the above policy. I'm cool with that. :smug:

Fireball, Burn, Stormbringer, Perfect Strangers... three MORE honorable mentions! :D

Also, doing them in rando order will be how I'll probably roll with this.

I think my early choices will be random but the last 3 will be in order.

Suggestion: what if we have a pool of dead obvious tracks that we all acknowledge are monsters in and of themselves - Overkill, Ace of Spades, the Sabbath ones, the Deep Purple ones, and if we went after the less-well-known title tracks that are among the best?

Also, I promise not to nominate any one-song albums, even though I really love Thick as a Brick. :smug:

I was thinking of something along those lines too...

We could do that. I think all of our top three would be Sabbath/Purple/Dio/Motörhead....so maybe we could leave those bands out completely and try to focus on other bands that aren't so....well...obvious.

So
NO

SABBATH
PURPLE
DIO
OZZY
MOTÖRHEAD

We've already covered most of those tracks on the other threads anyways. This could leave room for some more interesting and unknown choices....

That sounds very workable to me. I do need to think about my list though.

Since I hate all music except those bands, this will cause me to have to think :)

I believe you might be pulling my leg there a bit.... ;D

Yeah some time to think is needed here though with these new rules....but I think I have come down to 10....

I'm gonna do 10 funk/soul and 10 hard rock/metal. I'm going for the more obscure, so also no Metallica, Megadeth, or Iron Maiden on my list or bands/albums we've visited at length.
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!

Alright let's kick things off then!

My first pick is

BURNT OFFERINGS from ICED EARTH

Could have been Iced Earth as well but the intro to BO is just brilliant. Has a bit of a Tubular Bells feel to it.
Musically this is great the riffing here is nothing short of suberb and Matt's vocals are also very good although he got more comfortable with it in later albums.

Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: Zzzptm on April 22, 2024, 09:47:46 AM
It begins...

My funk/soul tracks start with Parliament's "Up for the Down Stroke"

Tight horns, clean bass and drums, everything you need for an epic funk track. The vocal layers are incredible, especially in the final part that interleaves the A and B parts. The very definition of groove, right here.

***

I got 13 picks for a list that focuses mostly on the 70s Classic Rock and Hard Rock/Metal. I know my honorable mentions, time now to pick the first pick, #10 on my list...

I first heard this on a Faces compilation that I bought and loved it. Found out it was used in the film Rushmore and had to go see that film. And then it started popping up in commercials around me. No matter, my joy at the first listen remains fresh. Both Rod Stewart and Ronnie Lane did a vocal track for it, but somehow it was Ron Wood's forlorn delivery that fit the song best, and I agree with that choice. It has a powerful, reminiscing warmth that comes through the acoustic guitars and singalong final lines.

In at number 10 is, Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life". A punk-infused celebration of hedonism with a smattering of determinism in the face of this inexplicable thing called life.

No. 10

Let's start with a classic from Joe Bonamassa, Sloe Gin, the ode to drinking yourself to death.

Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!

OK, these No. 10s are really sweet. :)
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: Charger on April 23, 2024, 05:04:26 AM
Second pick would be something new in both terms of a recent release and a new find for me and that is

HELL, FIRE AND DAMNATION by SAXON.

This was the first track I heard from the album and I was totally blown away. I had known very little about Saxon before this and frankly I always assumed they were bit on the softer side but this proved me wrong once and for all.

And the best part of this track is that as great as it is it's not even the best track on the album!!!

Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: KiloDeltaCharlie on April 23, 2024, 09:13:42 AM
My second pick is

Emerson, Lake and Palmer - Trilogy

I wanted to get some Prog on here, but didn't want to include any side-long epics which ruled out, well, quite a lot of title tracks actually. I really like the gentle start to this one, before it goes a bit psychedelic/psychotic later!
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: Zzzptm on April 23, 2024, 10:24:50 AM
SAXON!!! YEAAAAHHHH!!!

Was not familiar with the ELP tune, so I'm playing it now to check it out. Only 8:53, a short prog tune. :D

For my funk/soul entry, I submit to you...

Sly Stone - High on You

I love the life in this one. That opening bass groove sets the scene and cooks throughout. Church organ and choir come into the scene at just the right times. Drums nice that tight, playing clean. Even stoned out of his mind, Sly could write a great tune.

***

Now for the rock...

Running on Empty by Jackson Browne

This is such a well-written song... I remember first hearing it on the radio in 1978, after we had moved into a new house and I got my own bedroom. My folks gifted me an old brown box of a radio and I found Q102 and 98 KZEW with a quickness, the two Album Rock stations in Dallas. This song was spinning hard on both stations and I got enchanted by the magic in this music. It's not hard, it's not heavy, but it's so compelling with the lyrics and the expert playing in the band. Almost 40 years later, it's still touching those emotions expertly and is a great driving song for those long Texas highways I get on from time to time.

Number 9: "Let There Be Rock" by AC/DC. Perfectly encapsulates the Bon Scott era of the band, with a bar-band-that-made-it attitude.

Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: KiloDeltaCharlie on April 23, 2024, 04:44:04 PM
I quite like that AC/DC track... but it's not the one I'll be choosing!

Not familiar with the recent Saxon album, that's not bad at all, I may include an early Saxon track but it may be an honourable mention.
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: Charger on April 24, 2024, 05:55:01 AM
Good choice on the AC/DC track for sure! One of my favourites as well...But I'm thinking my absolute favourite might be the one KDC will be choosing...

I'm moving away from the heavy stuff for one pick here as my third one will be

BEAUTIFUL INTENTIONS by MELANIE C

Big fan of the entire album only seconded by the brilliant The Sea but the title track on this one is waaaay better than The Sea.

I've always loved the melody on this one and Melanie's vocals are absolutely stellar.

Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: Zzzptm on April 24, 2024, 08:46:08 AM
That is a fave AC/DC track of mine, points to Vyn for bringing it up!

Now to enjoy a bit of curated Mel C, be right back when I am done with the listen. :)
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: Zzzptm on April 24, 2024, 08:54:39 AM
OK, I did not expect it to have such a hard edge - call it a pleasant surprise for me. That is a solid song, and really works well. Glad we're getting into our deeper treasures in this little thread.

Now my picks...

For the funk/soul, it's Billy Preston's "That's the Way God Planned It"

Billy Preston - Keyboards and Vocals
George Harrison - Rhythm guitar
Keith Richards - Bass
Ginger Baker - Drums
Eric Clapton - Lead guitar

Billy Preston is great at writing an uplifting song, and this one is such a glorious celebration of life and joy. The backing band are all on top of things with this recording, lots of heart and energy in it.

***

For my rock title track, I turn to...

We promised no Deep Purple, but this is Tommy Bolin solo! :smug:

If you haven't heard the man's solo work, what are you waiting for? It's a treat and a treasure. And if you have heard it before, you're already playing this and jamming out.
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!

I'll get my AC/DC out the way now. I don't know if it's the one Charger was thinking of, but there's a good chance it is!

Pick 3
AC/DC - Highway to Hell

Great riff, great hook,a top 5 AC/DC song

Number 8 - Megadeth's "Peace Sells...but Who's Buying?"

A bunch of great tracks you all are posting! AC/DC has quite a few that could make it, Let There Be Rock seems to have always gotten a bit less airplay around where I'm from, probably lending to why I picked it lo these decades since its release :)

Thank you Vyn for posting that one so I don't have to! I was kind beating myself for not having the space to include that one...Now I can go on with my original list! :)

My fourth pick will be

SEASONS OF TRAGEDY by BENEDICTUM

Benedictum refined their style for their second album and found a way to get even better. This epic showcases the versatility of the band and the amazing voice of Veronica Freeman.

(Apparently Youtube doesn't know how to start these videos from a certain point anymore so you'll have to move on to 47:24 to start the song...but feel free to listen to the whole album as it is SUBERB!)

^^^
I'll check that out later.

Like AC/DC that's not the Megadeth track I would go for, but it is a good'un

Pick number 4

Mountain - Nantucket Sleighride

A homage to Moby Dick, the chorus/instrumental section was used as a theme tune for a 1970s current affairs programme here in the UK which where I first came across it.

Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: Zzzptm on April 25, 2024, 08:23:31 AM
Oooooooh I was gonna also do that one. OK, I'll sub in one of my other picks later today. But, yes, Nantucket Sleighride is a real classic. Done live, it's a massive monster piece of instrumental wandering that never fails to captivate.
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: Zzzptm on April 25, 2024, 02:38:27 PM
My 4th pick for funk and soul is the wonderful "What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye.

"War is not the answer / For only love can conquer hate"

Right on, Marvin. Right on!

***

And for the rock and roll, I'll trot out my first replacement since KDC posted one of my planned picks, "Nantucket Sleighride."

I really love this tune. A friend of mine lent me a bunch of records he was getting rid of and said I could keep what I liked. This is one that I kept. I hadn't even heard of Strawbs before I got this album and gave it a spin.

It's definitely progressive, but I also find it highly accessible. It's phased like a good Rush or Jethro Tull song and avoids excesses of experimentalism. There's a harder-rocking part in the middle that makes a fit contrast for the intro and outro. It's in no danger of becoming a metal song, but is firmly camped in a hard prog area of the musical map.

"I hope your dreams / Are not like mine"
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: Charger on April 26, 2024, 06:47:16 AM
My 5th pick will be something not all that surprising...

HALL OF THE MOUNTAIN KING by SAVATAGE!

Honestly though this could have been ANY Savatage title track as they are all AWESOME! Power Of The Night, Dead Winter Dead, Edge Of Thorns...Gutter Ballet...but had to choose one and this is the most iconic one and this one does have the best riff too and Jon's vocals on this one...my goodness! This track is what lauched Savatage to the big leagues...and I have to say I don't ponder why.
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: Zzzptm on April 26, 2024, 08:50:26 AM
:headbanger:

Awww yeah that's a rocker, there!

***

Funk and soul top title track for today is...

Harvest for the World by The Isley Brothers. It retains the funk aspects, but with a much softer surface than "Fight the Power" and other socially-aware songs they'd done. This one is heartfelt, warm, encouraging, uplifting, and brave. The soul in this song comes through clearly and cleanly. It is a call to action, and a stirring one at that. The vocals in Part 2 take it up a notch in energy and urgency, thereby maintaining the strength of the song to the end.

***

For my rock suggestion today, I choose...

Station to Station by David Bowie. This one I didn't even know until Billy Underdog told me to get into David Bowie by discovering his ages. Not all ages were for everyone, find the ones that worked and enjoy them. Bowie's Berlin trilogy were great and I love them, but this offering from The Thin White Duke enchanted me most. The steady beats of the opening that give way to the progression of the song to its energetic finish are some great stuff.

Thanks, Billy. Still thinking of you, brother.  :pub:

Hall of the Mountain King is a pretty good song. Not otherwise familiar with them other than that album.

Pick 5

Hawkwind - Levitation

It's rare that they have title tracks but this is a great one (not sure the promo video does them any favours!!), I did toy with Quark, Strangeness and Charm, but marginally prefer this one.
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!

Some great Space Brock there. :smug:
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!

Next up, Metallica's "Ride the Lightning". The entire album was a fantastic progression from their debut, and remains a hot slab of metal. The title track is not my favorite from the album itself, but is a great song and if it was the only tune they ever made, it'd be a one hit wonder.

Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!

Cliffburtontallica was the best.
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: Charger on April 27, 2024, 05:31:19 AM
Bowie's not my cup of tea never has been....but that Hawkwind track (which I had not heard before) is pretty rockin' tune! And ofcourse Ride The Lightning is a classic....that intro riff is iconic.

My 6th pick is

MASK OF THE DEVIL by SAVAGE MASTER

This is another rather recent find of mine...discovered this band few years ago by accident and what a pleasant surprise it was. Horror/occult themed rock with great riffing and soaring vocals.
This track I think is probably their best song and it is a real belter!
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: KiloDeltaCharlie on April 27, 2024, 04:59:36 PM
Pick number 6 for me

PIL - Public Image

After leaving the Sex Pistols John Lydon formed Public Image Ltd and released a fantastic album. Not quite punk, not quite art house, decidedly weird in places. Anyhow this was the first single and I really like it.
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: Zzzptm on April 27, 2024, 05:06:51 PM
Wow, that's got that goth-y feel to it that I really like. I need to look up PIL, I've been sleeping on that album, looks like.

Funk/Soul for today from me is...

Back Stabbers by The O'Jays. It's an epic piece, the band primed for their greatest successes.

***

For rock, I've got...

Shinin' On by Grand Funk. It's got a strong, steady, cooking groove that keeps it going. The bass line in it is a total gas, could listen to that for days.
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: Vyn on April 27, 2024, 06:45:12 PM
Next from me is "London Calling" from The Clash. Cast in the key of E minor to align with the song's theme of crisis and unrest, with a simple chord progression that does a great job tying together disparate styles, this song is iconic. Punk-o-rama in a three minute package!

Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: KiloDeltaCharlie on April 28, 2024, 01:06:05 PM
Mask of the Devil is quite a fun little song! Of course London Calling is pretty good, the album as a whole is a little patchy (IMO), but there's some great stuff when it does work.

That Ojay's - Back Stabbers is blocked in the UK, but it's ok as I am familiar with and it is quite good.

I've finalised which of my remaining selections are going to make my Top 10 and which will be Honourable Mentions, so...

Pick Number 7

Megadeth - Rust in Peace... Polaris

While I've never been a huge thrash metal fan, this album seems to combine thrash with accessibility quite nicely, and this track in particular. The drum intro is rather good too.
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: Vyn on April 28, 2024, 04:35:31 PM
London Calling, the album, would have been a better overall release if it had been one disk. I think they were suffering from the hubris of people that think they have something to say (which they did) thinking everything they have to say is worth hearing (it isn't).

Turning the clock back a few years, we have James Brown letting us know he's mad and is looking for the payback. At one point he seems to indicate a distaste for back-stabbers. I've always liked this song. It has a ceaseless groove with these funky staccato-like interjections of sound. So, "The Payback" by James Brown:

Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: Charger on April 29, 2024, 05:42:50 AM
Rust In Peace is another fine pick indeed! A killer track to say the least!

My #7 is

PAINKILLER by JUDAS PRIEST

I was thinking about leaving this one out but no sir...can't do it. This track is just amazing there is no two ways about it.
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!

My Pick 8

See Chargers Day 7!! Yup Painkiller... Damn You Charger!!! :D

Rather than repost the video, I'll post this reaction to the song by classical composer Doug Helvering

Missed yesterday, sorry, mates.

London Calling, The Payback, and Painkiller - each a legend in their own rights!

My #4 on the Soul charts is also from James Brown...

No multitracking studio stuff here. It was done live in the studio, did it in two takes. It's a massive dance number with some of the heaviest funk laid down on wax. NEVER underestimate James Brown, y'all!

***

Rock and roll #4 for me is...

Say "Foghat" and the people that don't look at you with a "wtf is a foghat?" expression are nodding, saying, "Yeah, man! FOGHAT! Awrite!" Apparently, you had to grow up in the 70s to be blessed with the musical stylings of these gents and their boisterous brand of blues-based heavy rock. Lots of rock gold to be found in their albums, and this one is right up there with the best of their best.

Considered Painkiller - now I don't have to :)

Did not consider Fool for the City. And yeah, they were a hot item back in the day, at least in certain areas. Dave Peverett looked like my neighbor, and we used to call him Dave because of it. Of course, his name was also Dave, but I digress...

Warlock - "All We Are"

Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!

ohvcoevoew

Ok, so the CD I have is not what it originally came out on. The CD is titled All We Are. But I see that it originally came out on vinyl under a different album.

Fuck Warlock and their bullshit tricksy releases. ;)

Ratcheting up one notch, here's "Hell Awaits" by Slayer. I bought this new when it came out, I know it's the title track hahaha.

She does have wonderful....hair!

I AM going to do a Warlock title track now for my 8th pick

BURNING THE WITCHES
(Lets step out of the box and do a LIVE version here shall we!)

Iron Maiden was going to be featured here BUT I thought Maiden has been done enough in the past top 10s that we can skip it here and do some old school metal instead featuring the metal queen herself.

One of my favourite Warlock songs and it's the title track of their very first album. There weren't that many "female fronted metal bands" back then and Warlock sure came to the scene blasting on all cylinders!
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!

Good to see some unfamiliar stuff up in here! REALLY liking "Burning the Witches"!

***

So I'll go with a harder edge on my funk/soul pick. This one is definitely hard rock-flavored. Big time. As in it's a guitarist being turned loose and doing as he chooses, and this is what he chose:

You get a 15-second intro and then YEAH it kicks off good! Eddie Hazel does amazing work, a true guitar hero. There's plenty of flash and fire, but at no point does he forget that this is a song, and he's got to keep the musicality of the solo along with the show-off parts. A master clinic in soloing, this one.

***

#3 for rock and roll is...

I know the rule is no Deep Purple or Black Sabbath, but we didn't say no Rainbow! :smug:

Rainbow video blocked in these 'ere parts! I'm guessing that's Long Live Rock n Roll?

I seem to be a day ahead as some missed a day recently. However...

Pick for Day 9

The Stranglers - No More Heroes

Another band who rarely had title tracks, but this is a great one.

Well that was implied! ;D

But I'm all for having that one! It is a rockin' tune!

The first 2 Metal Church albums don't do it to me as much as the later stuff but there are still some killer tunes on those as well...that being one of them!

Tomorrow's track today - not really my cup of tea, but...BUT...and this may sound crass (because, well, it is) but when I was a young single dude I can provide a first-hand account that this song would get a girl out of her pants faster than you could say, "hey". So, to be clear, while it isn't a favorite song of mine, per se, it was at one point a favorite song of mine - to play - for others :)

My 9th pick is an absolute masterpiece!

MANIACAL RENDERINGS by JON OLIVA'S PAIN

JOP's second album was far more complex than the first one and the title track is no exception. From the super catchy bass intro to the brilliant solo section this song has epic written all over it. The track also features some riffs by the late great Criss Oliva which Jon found from his archives.
A fantastic tune this one.

Pretty major gear change, going from Al Green to Jon Oliva's Pain, but I liked both tracks. :) Al Green I knew well, Jon Oliva's is new to me, glad to hear something new.

***

Here's hoping my choices aren't blocked in other countries because of Bastard Music Group or something like that...

For funk and soul, hardly anything touches the staying power of this track...

FIRE by The Ohio Players

These session players got together and jammed out on their records like few other bands could. This track of theirs stands the test of time, hands down 100% absolutely. Love it.

***

Along the lines of Vyn's "quiet storm" selection, I recall the savvy wisdom of more than one young swain on the powers of Steely Dan. While I had already been married for several years at the time their virtues were extolled, it did make me curious about investigating their back catalog. While they have many a title track, the one that really speaks to me with its unsweetened dark chocolate urban hellscape majesty is...

The Royal Scam - Steely Dan

The sparse syncopated processional underlying the etching acid lyrics provides the drive in this track, building a mood that would have been lost had there been any more notes in the main line of the song. The bridge is a brilliant respite, then they break it all down and get right back to work. This one, this brooding, dreaming, quietly violent one, this is my favorite Steely Dan title track, without hesitation.

I need to watch a few of those videos... but later.

Pick 10

Rush - Fly By Night

A simple 3-minute song that just works so well, catchy, rockin' who could ask for more!

I'll post my honourable mentions tomorrow

My 10th pick is the number one for me here there was never any doubt in my mind that this wouldn't be the top dog.

TENTH DIMENSION by BLAZE BAYLEY

This is one of my all time favourite albums and the title track is just an absolute monster of a song. This is pure perfection right here from start to finish.

Ha! So predictable... a bit like me and Rush! :D

Good choices all around!

My number one funk-soul title track is...

(Theme from) Shaft by Isaac Hayes.

I've never seen the film, but I know this tune and I know it well. Considering the full range of musicians contributing layers to the composition, hats off to Isaac Hayes as the master arranger.

***

And for the rock and roll side of things, I got the best for last...

Power & the Glory by Saxon!!!

Aaaaaaaand I got the goosebumps playing it, get 'em just about every time for the last 40 years when I put this one on.

Story time... I'd gotten lots of stuff from 70s hard rock and metal acts in my collection up to this point, but wasn't totally sure about whether or not to get into the NWOBHM acts showing up on our shores. This was my first test - buying an album solely on the basis of its cover and what it communicated. Big ol' axeheads in the S? Good sign. Evil lookin' badass in the frame? Cool cool cool cool cool. And he's got pew pew molten metal lookin' things shooting out of his fingers? OK, this is the one to try out.

AND DAMN IF THE MUSIC DIDN'T JUST SOUND LIKE WHAT THE COVER SAID IT WOULD SOUND LIKE!!!  :headbanger: :headbanger: :headbanger: :headbanger: :headbanger:

And now you will understand my complete and utter disappointment with Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell album... But Saxon delivered the goods and I'm glad to have been able to get back into them with their current brand of top-shelf heavy rock and metal.

I have always liked Fly by Night and feel it is sorely under rated as a great song.

Another great song is that song from Saxon and cool story. Yeah, the awesome album art of Bat Out of Hell in no way prepares a person for the actual music inside!

I intentionally stayed away from Blaze Bayley knowing he'd pop up on Charger's list for sure :) Great tune!

I can't really put my all time fave as my last offering - since it belongs to a verboten band :) But, this one has always been a lyrically awesome tune that I think if more people would internalize would stop a lot of bullshit in people's lives. A real poem it is:

Full disclosure, though: this is kind of a cheat, because being the abnormal person I am, I always liked the original version better and thought the added instrumentation took away from it. But it sure made it a hit, and allowed it to be a title track for our purposes here today :)

Sometimes it's good to be predictable!

Power & The Glory was a bit of a surprise pick! Didn't see that one coming! Makes me wanna listen to that album again...well heck...why not!

I've got a few honorable mentions myself that I'll be putting out there for tomorrow...

Title tracks that didn't quite make the list but could have easily.

DREAM CALLS FOR BLOOD by Death Angel

Brilliant piece of thrash metal, Mark's vocals here are rather brilliant!

CARNIVAL BIZARRE by CATHEDRAL

Cathedral's third album is widely considered as their best, I quite enjoy both that came after as well...hell I don't think they've done a weak album. But this is doom metal at it's finest for sure.

BURDEN OF TRUTH by Circle II Circle

Honestly could have been any CIIC title track as they are all quite brilliant but this one is the most epic of them all I think!

I left out bands like Megadeth and Anthrax and Iron Maiden and Alice Cooper as I have included them on so many lists already...it was time to shine some light on stuff that was bit more rare....I think I somewhat succeeded...

My honorable mentions...

Superfly by Curtis Mayfield

Feel the Need by the Detroit Emeralds (1977 version)

American Woman by The Guess Who

Lights Out by UFO

And here's my honourable mentions...

Saxon - Wheels of Steel

Bruce Dickinson - Chemical Wedding

Slayer - Seasons In The Abyss

3 Different Saxon tracks for the list now! That's super cool indeed!

Honestly Chemical Wedding for me is one of the weaker songs on that album that's why it wasn't even in consideration for me.

I was thinking about Slayer too but my pick would have been South Of Heaven. Or Hell Awaits but luckily Vyn took that one so it's awesome that it got represented here as it is one epic song...especially the almost doom metal style intro...love that part of the song the most.

I know very little UFO (the band...the aerial phenomena I know much more!) but that track I have heard before and it is a good one indeed!

I need to add one more but this one had to be left out as techincally it's not a title track...and it's off of an EP.

ALL HELL IS BREAKING LOOSE DOWN AT LITTLE KATHY WILSON's PLACE by Wolfsbane

The song is titled just Kathy Wilson on the EP but the official title of the was the title of the EP but they thought it would have been too long for a song title.
This is based on the old sci-fi classic Invaders From Mars. A very campy movie that deserves a very campy song and ofcourse the Wolfies deliver! Blaze delivers one hell of a preformance here playing several different characters in the song! Brilliant stuff!

But basically this did not tick all the needed boxes on the rules so it got left out but I'm adding it here as a Bonus track just because it is that Awesome!

What to next...  What, to, do, next!

I've got a couple of ideas:

1)  Our favourite bands before we turned 16

2)  Songs we like which aren't on an album (subsequent cash-grab compilation asides!!)

Anyone else have any ideas
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!
Post by: Charger on May 07, 2024, 09:09:38 AM
Oh gosh....I can't really remember much about bands I liked before I was 16 (other than the ones I like now!) :D

Non album tracks might be interesting...but do we include japanese edition bonus tracks and/or limited edition bonus tracks or do we talk about songs that are only featured on lets say movie soundtracks and single b-sides and such?
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!

I'd like to do the bands of our younger days. We had lots of music in my house, and I'm glad to say I'm still into many of those artists today.
Title: Re: 10 Favourite Title tracks of all time!

For the non-album tracks, I'm thinking single B-Sides and I can think of some A-Sides too, I'm also thinking of live tracks which never saw a studio version. And yes bonus tracks not readily available world wide would be a fair inclusion.

I just used 16 as an age category because I knew that then is when my tastes settled down, we can be flexible if need be.

Non album tracks sound fine! I am truly not sure I can come up with 10 songs pre-dating my metal years but I suppose I can try. ;)
