"Very competitive market, sand!" - James May
I am going to love this one.

Time for some Sand Job! Just about to start watching!

Well it was rather brilliant!
The desert scenery was at times breathtakingly beautiful and the buffoonery was hilarious. But most importantly the chemistry between the fellows was as great as ever.
Bunch of laugh out loud moments and the time just flew by eventhough this was their longest episode ever at 2h 16 minutes....I swear it felt like less than 90 minutes!

I'm looking forward to watching it soon. Glad to know that they'll be going out on top with this one.

Watched it last night with the missus and we had a great time. Yes, there's scripted stuff, but so what? I like these modern-day stooges-with-nice-cars and their juvenile stunts. The snowmobile reappearing like a Wile E. Coyote scheme gone all wrong was perfect scripting in my view. :D
It makes me want to go back and rank all of their specials, all the way back to their Polar Expedition one back, when was that? 2007? Only 17 years ago? My, how they've had a packed set of decades, there!
Top Gear Specials:
Polar Expedition
Botswana to Namibia
Vietnam
Bolivia to Chile
Iraq to Israel
India
Source of the Nile
Burma
Patagonia
Grand Tour Specials:
Namibia
Mozambique
Colombia
Black Sea to Caspian Sea
Mongolia
Mekong in Boats
Reunion and Madagascar
Scotland
French Cars
Scandinavia
Poland to Slovenia
Mauritania
(Zimbabwe next)
Just looking at the list there, they really have a thing for driving in Africa. Also looking at the list, the Grand Tour did one special in each of the first two seasons and then three in 3 (Colombia, Sea to Sea, Mongolia), followed by four each in 4 and 5. Quite a lot of research ahead of me if I choose to review them all... fortunately, I have the Top Gears except for Burma and Patagonia on some local video files and the GT ones I have through Amazon Prime.
There were other episodes that featured a long drive as a two-part feature, but were not themselves the entire episode, so they don't count as specials. But I do love the one where they drove through the Southern USA, the single tank of gas race, car vs train in Japan, the GT Morocco episode, and probably a few others I'm not remembering just now.
Just started the Polar one and man those guys have aged a lot in 17 years... :D

I really can't remember those specials so well that I could even imagine doing a best of list...
The south american one on Top Gear was great...the one they got into trouble with the Argentinians....that I do remember...the one in the far east with the Lorries was a excellent one as well!
Those I remember.

I watched the first four over the weekend. The Polar one was great fun, but the next three knocked it out of the park with more 3-way banter and them all moving together, more or less. I know I greatly enjoy the Middle East one, looking forward to reviewing that again. :D

30 minutes in to it and it is a step up from some of the recent lock-down hampered episodes.
