Got me to wonder... what *if* we have been contacted by extraterrestrial peoples, but that contact is seen by the wider extraterrestrial society as irresponsible (could expose us to pathogens, among other things) and has been criminalized. So that, while we had a spurt of UAV reports in the late 40s and early 50s, those got quashed by policing the area and sending the visitors, be they joy-riders, missionaries, tourists, whatever away from our planet? And that now, all we get are either visitors that get past a police cordon or that are derelict craft crashing into earth?
