A summary of new releases in 2023. Confirmed, rumoured and speculated. One or two omissions.
-
We could use this as a platform for albums that we're waiting for the most!
As I posted on the Best Albums thread here's stuff that I'm looking forward to this year
Blaze is recording a new album as we speak.
Alice's album should come out next year
Delain's new album is coming
KK's Priest is coming
Tim Ripper Owens but that'll be at the end of the year I think.
Death Angel maybe
Judas Priest maybe (NOPE 2024 release for this one)
Doctor Butcher maybe
Solitude Aeturnus maybe
Archon Angel maybe
Doro maybe
And ofcourse the Tony Martin Era Boxset that Tony Iommi confirmed in his New Years Video is actually coming out this year!
It'll be interesting to see what (if any) extras we're going to be getting. It would be super cool to get some live stuff added...maybe even a full show from the Headless Cross tour.
Also I wonder will Cross Purposes Live make an appearance...it was never released on cd alone so who knows...it would be nice to get that as well...and the DVD/Bluray ofcourse as well.
Forbidden got the remix so it'll be exciting to hear how that'll sound.
Also I'm hoping the Japanese bonus tracks for CP and Forbidden are going to be included as well as Cloak And Daggar from HC single. We shall see.

Black Sky Giant dropped an album yesterday, I'm liking this one from the start: https://blackskygiant.bandcamp.com/album/primigenian

is that Lindsay Buckingham on guitar?
I'M KIDDING
It's got an interesting vibe - since I moved into the modern era, gear-wise, I can now play these things on my main system with the click of a mouse. Really helps, because this is the kind of music that if I heard it through puny PC speakers would sound like crap to me.
And I am really looking forward to the Martin era stuff coming out!

Unfortunately Tony didn't mention anything about a Born Again album remix coming out this year. So it may not be happening until next year, if it does come to pass.

I ponder if it'll ever come out...It would kind of fitting for this year being the 40th anniversary but I think he would have mentioned about it...
-
There will be a Dark Side of the Moon 50th Anniversary Release in March (I think), not quite sure what it will include.

Be nice if it came with a photo of the dark side of the moon.
-
I can't imagine what they would include in a 50th anniversary release of DSOTM that hasn't already been released twelve times over.
Nude photos of Waters and Gilmour lounging on a moon rover?

David Pattillo is working on a new album, sounds like it may be quite tasty, based on this track.
-
2 more new albums announced
The Damned - Darkadelic
Hawkwind - The Future Never Waits
both coming out 28th April.
I was a little disappointed with Hawkwind's lockdown album, hopefully this one will be better.
-
I'm ready for another Damned album!

Found these guys in a Bandcamp recommendation, I am really digging their grooves. Beautiful early 70s hard rock/hard prog sound.

Just pre-ordered
Yes - Mirror to the Sky
Due 19th May. Only Steve Howe remains from the original line-up, but the first release from it is highly rated.

Hanford Flyover is a real treat of a band for me. Female vocals, great progressive/psychedelic sensibilities, and they can go heavy when they need to. Rich, deep songwriting shows that they do their musical homework.

A new Alice Cooper album is in the works but no clue if it will be released any time soon.
Girlschool have a new album out on July 28th called WTFortyFive with guests appearances from Duff Mckagan, Phil Campbell and Biff Byford. It's their 45th anniversary record.

Also, it was announced today that 2 Alice Cooper (Group) albums will be re-released on June 9, 2023. Killer and School's Out will be 3 LP and 2 CD releases, each including a different live concert from 1972. Both releases will also feature several additional bonus tracks as well as the original packaging.

That sounds tasty! Killer is my all time favorite AC album, and ranks up there among my favorites across the board.

I saw that as well...Might go for the Killer 2cd set as I absolutely adore that album!
The new album is going to be called ROAD and it'll feature the live band (for the first time) and it'll be about the life on the road from Alice's point of view.
No release date yet but he did say it'll come out "Very soon" so might be a bit of a surprise release.
-
Got 'em both on pre-order. Was just going to pick up Killer, but you know how it goes. I have a bunch of different LPs arriving over the next couple of weeks, I think it's time I wound that down before my wife kills me.

Killer has always been one of my favourite AC albums since practically my 1st listen. I plan on buying the 2 CD re-releases of both Killer and SO.

Darkadelic just dropped, and it's off to a great start on my speakers.
-
My favorite tracks from Darkadelic so far are rockers Follow Me and Motorcycle Man, but also the haunting conclusion Roderick. Strong album, will spin again.
Angela Tini and Mozzy Dee albums dropped today, so I'll be playing them through - today is retro day for me!
-
Only listened to Darkadelic once so far. While I don't have favourites yet, I did notice it had simpler songs, a less gothic feel and while not particularly punky it seems very much a throwback to earlier albums.
-
Definitely not as goth-y as it could have been, but I think it's got enough to have a good flavour throughout.

Throw away the remaster tracks, this one's for the REMIXES. Yes, I've been spamming up the boards with this release, but I believe I am justified, given their quality and how there are subtle differences in them - little extra bits that made their way to the cutting room floor when the original was released. A few are forgivable glitches, the flaws that let you better appreciate the diamond's surrounding beauty, but others seem like they were edits made for time/content/whatever and having them back in the tracks makes them deeper, richer, and just able to take the material to an entirely new level.
As I type this, I'm playing the amazing Iommi solo from Heaven and Hell and getting those goosebumps again. It's like the music has been set free, like it was a genie shoved into a lamp 40 years ago and we just now got the right person to give it a rub and unleash it. I'm positively stunned at the quality and put it on the level of Made in Japan for what it's capable of doing. The original release was one of my least favorite live albums due to the terrible sound. The remixes fix all that and more. They're magical, trasmutative, soaring and mighty.
I want to go back in time and tell the me of 1983 not to worry, it all gets better in 40 years. Tell myself the magic is still there when my hair is gray, these tracks will get me to pick up that air guitar again and jam out.

So I guess I need to buy this too then! ;D
The cheapest cd version I found was actually a small local record store in Finland with price of 89€...
Amazon is selling it for 73€ including postage and tax...but it comes from the US so it'll take some time and might also be subject to added customs fees eventhough it says that it won't on the page but that means nothing nowadays.
I'm having a bigger pay day this month so I guess I know where a chunk of that is going!
-
Both the cd set and vinyl will come down in price in time by a fair bit if you can be patient. Mine is halfway across the pacific. I paid $171 AD for mine which I think is a reasonable price given the retail stores here are selling it for between $240 & $260. All these super deluxe boxsets have been discounted in time.
-
When you get it, make sure your listening room is good to go. Awesomeness will happen with those remixed tracks. I am loving it.

Yeah, so, here I am...

I know that I've made physical purchases through Amazon and they've provided "autoripped" high-quality MP3s of the same tracks. If you have that option, it might be worth investigating as you wait on Newman to get your parcels delivered.

New singer Marc Lopes 100% delivers the Wayne-flavored goods. Gonna be a real temptation to call in sick this morning so I don't have to pause it to be on a Zoom call.
-
You're looking rather pale Zz, you should consider taking a day to relax and get better. Tell them I will vouch for you, because we all know my name is synonymous with diagnostic health care.
-
Nah, I'm good. The meeting ended and I got back to jamming out as I type up the competitive advantages of $VENDOR in $USE_CASES so that $CUSTOMER will purchase large quantities of $VENDOR products, which will net me and $ACCOUNT_MANAGER more $$$$$. :D

I've played the new Metal Church a couple of times, and I think I'm going to have to get used to the new vocalist. Musically it's fantastic, seems a little heavier than previous albums I'm familiar with.
-
I'm liking him out of the gate and, yes, I do like the heavier slant. Very reminiscent of their brilliant debut album.
-
Received notification today that my Alice Cooper disks have shipped!
-
Fun times ahead! 2023 is shaping up to be alllll riiiiight!

Agree, musically I think it’s really strong which you expect nothing less from Kurdt but not sure how I feel about Lopes. Not a fan of his screaming the last word at the end of a vocal line which he does quite a lot. It makes it sound a little generic and cheesy, and I do prefer a little more variation and subtlety in his delivery instead of the out & out aggression in which he sings most of the time. He is the perfect fit for singing the early stuff though I must say.
