Finnish Pole Vaulter WILMA MURTO makes history as she wins the European Championship!
And she doesn't just make one new National Record! She made 3!!!! And tied with the Championship record on her last solo jump!
I am kind of speechless...I've been closely following Wilma's career for a long time and I had a feeling she might make it to top 3 this year but this is just beyond amazing.

Good for her.
Finland often has one or two big names challenging for the medals (Lasse Viren springs to mind from when I was younger) and historically you were good at throwing events (I don't know what the current state of affairs with that is). But it's nice to break into a different event... and she looks a little more feminine!

This was the first athletics medal for women in 20 years for Finland...so it is a BIG deal here. And rightfully so as well...

And ANOTHER GOLD MEDAL FOR FINLAND TONIGHT!!
Topi Raitanen in 3000m steeplechase!!! My goodness!
And to top that off Kristiina Mäkelä jumps a new national record in Triple Jump and lands on a silver medal!!
It's so good to see Finland doing well again in athletics after all these years!

WOW, OK, this is some HUGE news with you guys really lifting beyond your weight there! You guys are like the ants of the sports world right now, small but oh so powerful!

Well once we were a really great athletics country but times have changed but now we are most certainly having something of a reneissance and that is great!
Gotta feel little bit proud to be a Finn once again...
And the Javelin final is tomorrow which might land us another medal....here's hoping!
