I just got the green light today to do a streaming classic funk/soul show on KNON. It'll be on noon-2PM, US Central Time at www.knon.org - not the FM side, but the streaming side. So my Saturday oldies show will do less Motown and Stax/Volt soul and make more room for the Golden Age of Rock tunes. I love it and am stoked to get going with the project. I'll be starting the shows on 7 March.
Fun thing is that I have to have a new DJ persona. Since I'll be pre-recording the shows for the streaming service, I can take the liberty of dropping my pitch by a substantial amount. :smug: 15% lower and enunciating slower than I do normally makes me sound 100% different!

Congratulations!
Anyway, I've always wondered if there is any method to the naming of radio stations in the USA. What I mean is does KNON actually mean anything! ;)

Congrats Z
It’ll be about 7am local time here so I’ll endeavour to tune in and have a listen. I listened to your old show once when you did an Elvis special a couple of years ago.

Zs, I always imagine your technique to be much like these two! ;) :P

In KNON's case, the NON is for non-commercial. Other stations, catch as catch can, I suppose. In Dallas, we had KZEW for a while, self-titled "The Zoo" and KTXQ, aka "Q102".
I've been playing more with my re-pitched voice, and I'm still having to hear it over and over because I know I said the stuff, but it don't sound like me at all!

Remember to throw in the occational Sabbath and Purple tune as well! ;D

:smug: I am toying with the idea of putting on Gettin' Tighter.
