Title: Tony Martin era albums getting released finally?
Post by: Charger on January 19, 2022, 08:15:54 AM
Some rather interesting news coming from mr. Tony Martin...

He posted this on facebook earlier today:

Quote from: Tony Martin
So i got a call from Tony Iommi's manager ... it seems there is now a record deal for my era of Sabbath albums !!!.... so It looks like a  re-issue is actually going to happen!!! 🙂 There could be a LOT of "Tony Martin" around this year! .... Sorry about that!

This would be a long overdue thing...I'm hoping there'd be a good ammount of bonus materials for these...atleast a lot of live stuff and a proper full release of Cross Purproses Live on both cd and bluray.

Yeah I saw that too, hopefully we don't have to wait too long.

A little pissed off I have to wait until 22nd Feb to get the CD of Thorns... I could get the MP3 download I suppose! :(

You shouldn't...a lot of people in the UK have already gotten their cds so yours shouldn't take that long.

That's great news, just hoping that there are bonus tracks and such and it's not just a play to make everyone buy the same albums all over again.

That might be the case, but I suspect they got them on import, It' Amazon UK (and I've checked other sites too) which say it is released on the 18th Feb, HMV think it's 14th Jan... but they don't have any in stock!

Well honestly even if it would be just the albums it would still be great as most of them have been out of print for a loooooong time...sure die hards like us have them but there are a lot of people who don't.

Looking forward to the reissues. I do have them all (save Cross Purposes Live* on CD), but I'm curious to see what bonuses will be included.

*If released on CD, I really hope the full tracklist is restored.

I'm truly hoping for a proper two cd full show release of Cross Purposes live.

I only have the one cd version that came with the VHS/CD pack back in the day.

Will it be just a reissue, or will there be remastering + bonus tracks?

Remastered and Forbidden is remixed atleast.  Don't know about bonus tracks yet.... I think there should be a press release coming in the next month or two.

I was able to get all of the Martin albums some years ago but I will be getting these sooner rather than later

Honestly I only listen to Ozzy and Dio Sabbath. It has been that way for a while now but I am honestly looking forward to reacquiring the Martin albums and giving them a good listen

It seems that the first single Headless Cross / Anno Mundi has been released on Spotify in Australia. Saw a post on Facebook earlier but can't find it anymore...

The boxset seems to be called Anno Domini 1989 - 1995
Title: Re: Tony Martin era albums getting released finally?

PRESS RELEASE IS OUT!!!

Black Sabbath - Anno Domini 1989-1995 (4 CD)

The set contains newly remastered versions of Headless Cross (1989), Tyr (1990), and Cross Purposes (1994), plus a new version of Forbidden (1995) that guitarist Tony Iommi remixed specially for the collection.
Several albums make their vinyl debut in the LP version of ANNO DOMINI, while the CD version contains three exclusive bonus tracks: the B-side "Cloak & Dagger" and the Japan-only releases "What's The Use" and "Loser Gets It All." A booklet comes with the set featuring photos, artwork, and liner notes by Hugh Gilmour. The collection also contains a Headless Cross poster and a replica concert book from the "Headless Cross Tour."
ANNO DOMINI picks up Black Sabbath's story in 1989, two decades and multiple lineup changes into the band's groundbreaking career as metal originators. At the time, membership had solidified around riffmaster and founding member Tony Iommi, legendary drummer Cozy Powell (Jeff Beck, Rainbow, Whitesnake), singer Tony Martin, and longtime Black Sabbath collaborator and keyboardist Geoff Nicholls (Quartz, Bandy Legs).
· Headless Cross, Tyr & Cross purposes newly Remastered
· Forbidden Newly remixed by Tony Iommi
· 1989 Headless Cross tour replica concert book
· 40-Page Book with photos, artwork & new liner notes
· Replica colour tour poster .

Extremely saddened that Cross Purposes Live isn't included! I don't understand why... Glad so see Forbidden remixed though!

HEADLESS CROSS!!

Sounds very crisp. And I'd say the bass is bit more prominent than before...

Same goes for ANNO MUNDI!

So far I haven't been able to find any cheaper versions here in Europe...Gotta calculate the customs fees and taxes but I think it will still be cheaper from Rhino than here. Gotta wait for Amazon.de to get it up...they have raised the postage fees by A LOT but if it's 60€ or even 70€ + postage there it will be cheaper than from Rhino as this time Rhino isn't doing a handmade special of that...not yet anyways...

I'll look at that this evening.

I've pre-ordered the CD Box Set off Amazon UK when first available. It was £88 at the time... if I order it now it would be £100, glad I ordered it when I did.

I still haven't ordered....but I think I'll get it straight from Rhino...it'll be bit cheaper than through amazon even with the customs and taxes.

Title: Re: Tony Martin era albums getting released finally?

Wow, what a significant difference for the better! They removed that ridiculous amount of echo on Martin's vox, and pulled it back into the mix just a tiny bit. I just listened to the original and it's crazy how it sounds like he is singing through a tube over a cassette recording of the instruments. They also "umuddified" those instruments and now the whole track sounds cohesive.

Yeah, "remastered" seems to be a magic word for Black Sabbath recordings.

I've listened in full to Forbidden Remix and Remaster... it's almost like a new album, the sound is heavy, crisp and clear and improves the album no end. I might have to reconsider my Sabbath album ranking!

Anno Domini...The Arrival!

As far as box sets go, and remasters in particular, this Anno Domini set is stellar. There isn't much in the way of accessories, but what did come with it is well done, high quality, and interesting. The album covers are thick and the printing is crisp. The disks themselves each share the same non-descript black labels and are the now ubiquitous 180g heavy-weight vinyl.

I've only listened to side one of Headless Cross so far, and it delivers the goods. "When Death Calls," really stands out. I am looking forward to listening to the rest!

Here's my tongue-in-cheek foray into the world of internet unboxing videos - in still-picture format!

A truck bearing the markings of Federal Express pulled into my driveway earlier today. I watched as the driver exited the truck, went around to the back, and retrieved a rolling cart, upon which was placed a large, red pillow (that had gold tassles). The driver then carefully sprinkled rose petals along a path to my front door. Returning to the cart, the driver then unfurled a small banner and then played a fanfare on a bugle.

Placing a medium-size box upon the red pillow, the driver carefully rolled said cart to my doorstep, whereupon the box was reverently laid. Scooping up the rose petals and placing all of the paraphenalia back into the truck, the driver hopped in and sped off in a cloud of burnt rubber.

I opened my front door, and there it was...a BOX!

Upon opening the box, I was greeted with...another box!

Intrigued, I couldn't help but wonder what could possibly be so important that it had to be contained in layers of boxes...or perhaps what was so god-awfully evil it had to be locked down within said boxes...thankfully it was the former supposition. The Martin-era Black Sabbath remasters!

After having whisked it away from the nasty environment of my garage and into the safety of my office, I turned the box over and was faced with THE BACK OF THE BOX!

After carefully removed the contents of the box, I found a giant poster. It's huge!

There's also a couple of booklets! Words and pictures 'n' shit!

One thing that caught my attention immediately was the difference between the covers of the new albums and the originals. Copyright notices, publishing credits, and so on will no doubt be changed, if they were printed on the original covers. But as far as the rest - it seems to me that maintaining an exact representation of the art and layout would not be a big deal.

For Tyr, it wasn't, because they are the same.

For the rest, they differ in various aspects. Herein, then, is a side-by side. The albums in the clear sleeves, on the left, are the originals. The other being the new Anno Domini remastered albums.

Headless Cross:

Cross Purposes:

Forbidden:

So...how long before we get a remaster of 13?

Very cool!

I like the subtle new changes to the art work of Cross Purposes!

I still haven't bought one myself...I do kick myself a bit for not getting it two weeks ago when it was on sale! But I'm getting some tax refunds on early July and that money is ear marked for a Sabbath boxset!

IT HAS ARRIVED!!

First notions.

The box is really cool and well made with good quality. The booklet is huge! The poster's nice, although bit on the small size (Bigger one is included with the vinyls I believe), the Headless Cross tour book is a nice touch, although I guess they could have made one of each tour...

The cd's are packed in simple card board sleeves only. Which is a real shame as they don't come with booklets or lyric sheets. Very odd choice there compared to all of the other boxsets including The Rules Of Hell.
Even if they didn't want to include jewel cases maybe still add the lyric sheets or print the lyrics to the big booklet...not a big thing as I do know the songs (obviously) inside out!

Ofcourse not including Cross Purposes Live is a travesty but I guess they had their reasons for leaving it out...what ever they might be.

Then comes the price. It was about 80€ delivered, which is about 20€ cheaper than you can find here...so thank you Amazon. 20€ per cd is pretty standard price but honestly a boxset like this should be bit cheaper...and ofcourse it is in the US..a whole lot cheaper in fact. 49.99$...but them the apples.

Worth it?
ABSO-FUCKIN-LUTELY!

The remasters sound crisp and fresh BUT the big thing is FORBIDDEN....my god! It's like a completely different album now! Actually listening it with cd quality instead of the youtube clips makes it sound even better. One of the best remixes I've ever heard.

I do believe they have plans for Cross Purposes Live... but I don't know what they are!

The quality of the re-master/re-mix of Forbidden does give me great hopes for the (hopefully) upcoming Born Again re-issue.
Title: Re: Tony Martin era albums getting released finally?
Post by: Charger on July 16, 2024, 11:45:28 AM
One can hope that they do..

Born Again remix on the other hand is coming. Tony has been posting a lot of Born Again tracks on his youtube lately so I take that as a hint. Also since they did discover those masters some while ago they actually CAN remix the thing. But knowing how slowly Tony works it might still take a while...but I'm hoping it might come out next year.

No Sabbath fan should ever pass on this one. The remastering (and remixing) on these albums is perfect. :)

Quoted for truth. Over the past twenty years or so, it seems like 80% of anything that gets released as a, "remaster," is for an album that didn't have a need for it, or the remastering did nothing (best case) or made things worse (typical). In other words, a cash grab.

These Sabbath remasters don't even fall in the remaining 20% of good remasters - they are in a class of their own. The folks who were given control of the knobs deserve an award.

Can't wait for Born Again to experience the same treatment by the same people.

I have listened to Forbidden more in the past two weeks than the combined total of times I listened to it in the previous 30 years. It's like this set of records are all newly released Sabbath tunes that I get to listen to for the first time.

In fact, I think it's time to go listen to Forbidden...again!

It's like the Live Evil reworking. Absolute magic, like someone kissed the frog prince after decades of waiting.
