I'll be honest... I'm not much for taking sight seeing photos!

Travel to DC today for me, then I fly back home tomorrow.

My oldest daughter just left DC two days ago. On a driving vacation with her husband, they live in FL, drove up the coast to NYC, then down to DC, over to Philadelphia where they are now.

Fun was not in the cards...

5+ hour delay on my original flight got me to switch to another flight on standby due to it leaving earlier than my now-delayed-no-longer-early-flight.

Had to walk around construction to get to the shuttle bus for the airport parking, great fun in the heat and humidity, even at 10PM. Dallas is a hard town in the summer.

Then, once I got to my car, I thought all was going to be well. I get to the parking exit and it tells me "wrong parking lot" and won't let me out. Had to call in help to get the computer to figure out that I was in the correct lot and needed to go home.

Made great time until I got to where the freeway was closed for construction, right at my home exit. A 25-minute drive home turned into a 45-minute slog.

But I slept in my own bed, so I'm good now.

I've always found the best part of a trip is getting back home.

That's one of the reasons I don't do trips!

We're having our family over today, with sausages and hamburgers on the grill, getting a nice mesquite smoking. Potato salad, ice cold root beer, homemade ice cream, all the fixin's. It's like Thanksgiving, but with different colored-decorations!

There's a threat of rain this afternoon, which means either we have a downpour or we deal with 100% humidity if we do things outside. So, we'll all be inside and enjoy the comfiness.

... and speaking of reasons to stay indoors in Texas...

Just saw an article that there will be a release of millions of flies over Texas to eradicate the flesh-eating maggot issues we've been having of late. The Screwworm Flies are back after about 50 years of being wiped out in the region. So, we're using the same method as before to deal with the latest outbreak. The original program ran from 1962 to 1975. No outdoor surgeries for me for the next decade, I reckon!

Fireworks I have a mixed set of feelings for.

In a proper show, they are great fun with the pops and colors and clever timings.

In a neighbor's yard at 4AM after a night of irregular pops, snaps, and periodic quiet times after they've been yelled at to shut up, it gets tiresome. I've lived through too many of these to know that anything other than letting them just finish their load of powdered junk poppers won't work.

I'll try and stay chipper to-day when dealing with folks, but I'm a bit raw from the commotions last night.
