I realized today that I'm at the point with my record collection that I need to divest myself of some before making any new acquisitions.

It has been a long time since I've been in this position. So long, in fact, that I no longer run in the circles I used to (record-collecting-wise) so my previous go-to means of getting rid of records (trading out a bunch of moderately interesting items for one or two super-interesting items) is no longer an option.

Which naturally turns my thoughts to actually selling records. I've sold a few over the years, but it has never really been my thing. What I do know only stems from being a buyer, and focusing on whatever specific item I'm searching for at any given time. Places like Rockaway or Records by Mail are never good indicators of potential value, because there isn't historical data that is reviewable, a person can only see what that for-profit record store wants for any given record. Which really doesn't mean anything. So, armed with that overall lack of insight into the current market, I spent some time reviewing discogs and then eBay.

I was amazed at what I found. So, I am now in the process of coming up with about fifty records to put on the market. These will probably go on eBay - there are a couple of used record stores in the metro area I live in, but those are the last places I would take anything to sell. Unless I wanted 25 cents a piece for them. And I'm not interested in that when I'm confident that my Black Sabbath test pressings will garner at least fifty cents in an auction!

Wish me luck! If I do go the eBay route, I probably won't have anything ready to post for another week - still need to decide on what to get rid of, but will let you all know how it turns out. You may find that you have some incredibly valuable disks collecting dust, yourself!

Well good luck with the sales.

I know I have one album that (atleast before the boxset came out) went for premium money on Ebay...the original pressing of Headless Cross, but I will never sell it...same goes for the Live At Hammersmith which also seems to go for quite a lot more than what I paid for it...but that will never go on the market either.

My collection however is a drop in the pacific compared to yours!

I chose to donate my vinyl to a young couple that had lots of room and needed albums to fill those shelves. Glad I did and that I know it's in a good place.

Thanks, it is a tough thing to decide what to part with. On the one hand, I don't want to waste time putting up vinyl that's common. Would rather give those away than get ten or twenty dollars a piece for them. On the other hand, the real collectible stuff is exactly that - real collectible and I enjoy having them around lol. But I have decided on some of them already - I've had them for a long time, they're collectible, and someone else can enjoy them for a while. That last reason is what is helping me decide what to let go of, the most.

Like your original pressing of Headless Cross. They didn't make a lot of those, and even though the new box set no doubt takes a swipe at its going value online, that box set cannot take away from the fact that it is an OG pressing from back in the day. That aspect makes it a collectible - nobody is going to buy it to listen to it, but because of what it represents. And no doubt about it, if you aren't ready to let something like that go, as soon as you do you would regret it. And then have to spend time and a crap ton of money to get one back.

I'm trying to avoid that haha.

So, to follow up: I made a few phone calls and actually managed to get in touch with a guy I used to trade with a long time ago. He's still rocking and rolling so I'm working some deals. Would rather do this than put them out for money any day, and was glad I was able to hook back up with the dude. My wife rolled her eyes when I told her, she knows what that might mean lol.

I bought a copy of Pink Floyd's "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" reissue for Record Store Day in 2018. This one:

https://www.discogs.com/release/11888042-Pink-Floyd-The-Piper-At-The-Gates-Of-Dawn

I decided to listen to it the other day (listening to it on Tidal prompted me to give it a spin). I hadn't even opened it yet - so I unwrapped it, cleaned it up, plopped it on the turntable and damned if the first track isn't warped. About one and a half inches inward from the outer edge has a pretty good warp in it, making the first tracks on both sides unplayable...my needle just bounces across.

NCIUBH$C(#*GRGVC^#&*OCV

It's a well done package, and the poster it comes with is really cool. I might even frame it. But the record itself is worthless shit. I guess it's too late to send it back for a refund? haha

You already scratched up the surface with your needle! YOU RUINED IT!

Yeah, not getting a refund is my guess.

The new SAVAGE MASTER album DARK & DANGEROUS just arrived today!

Sadly they made a bit of a mistake and sent me the standard black vinyl instead of the black/red colored one I ordered....oh well...it does seem that this one actually was the most limited one of them...so there's that...!
