Made In Japan SUPER DELUXE
« on: June 18, 2025, 12:04:01 PM »
Coming on August 15th

On August 15, 1972, the lauded Mk2 lineup of Deep Purple featuring Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Roger Glover, Jon Lord & Ian Paice took the stage in Japan for the first of three shows that would give rise to one of rock’s most celebrated live albums, 'Made in Japan.’ Today, Deep Purple announces a new Super Deluxe Edition of the landmark release, due out August 15—exactly 53 years after the first performance was recorded. 'Made in Japan (Super Deluxe Edition)' features new stereo and Dolby ATMOS mixes of the original live recording by acclaimed producer Steven Wilson, alongside all three concerts newly remixed by Richard Digby Smith, and several rare single edits.

Wilson harnesses the raw energy of the original tapes in his new stereo and Atmos mixes. "It's all completely as it happened on the night," he says. "The album has a power and sense of abandon that they never quite captured in the studio. Hopefully this new mix makes it feel even more like you're there."

Available now to pre-order in the official Deep Purple store as a 10LP vinyl boxed set, a 5CD + Blu-ray boxed set, or a standalone 2LP gatefold (2LP released October 3rd in US, Canada and Japan) .

At 100£ bit too steep!

And 200£ for the 10 LP version:

I've given up with Deluxe Editions, they're too expensive and have too much I'm not interested in... why are there socks in this one?

Yeah I know...strange that so often bands (or record companies really) need to add rather useless stuff to these! It's just about the music man!

With Live Evil, we all knew the original mixes were crappy. The remixed release was a must-have. That I totally understand and appreciate.

With Made in Japan, the original 1973 vinyl gave me goosebumps from day one. The remastered edition that followed was incremental in terms of quality. It was there, but if I lost those recordings and had to fall back on just the 1973 mixes, I'd still be a happy fan of the album. I picked it up because I did like the mixes and needed digital versions of my vinyl.

Then there was the Deluxe Edition, of which I bought 3 tracks that weren't on the remastered edition: Black Night, Speed King, and Lucille. I didn't buy the release of all three concerts in Japan, as I was already well into my "jeez, do I *really* need another live version of Strange Kind of Woman" phase.

Now this. Sigh.

When the stuff hits the streets, I'll listen on YouTube and see if there's a real difference or if they just moved the instruments around to make it sound different, but not necessarily better.

And I got plenty socks and t-shirts. How about making some nice polo shirts or cargo shorts for us old farts? Hmmm?

Yeah I don't really know how much that ReMix is gonna do...the album was pretty well mixed to begin with. I have the 2CD version with the Encores and I'm happy with that version.

IF this would be around the 50£ mark then I might consider....

Agreed. It's just a bit too steep for what it is. And yeah, the OG release has always sounded great. At this point the diminishing returns on another remix isn't worth it and they have to do better than a pair of socks to bridge the gap.

I still have my 2 LP issue of the album I received in the early 80's as well as Live in Japan, the remixed triple CD issue that I bought upon release in the early 90's.  So I don't think I'll be buying this latest reissue of the album.
