When I was a kid and I'd visit my grandparents, there was a woman who would walk around everywhere, and they called her "Walking Mary". She'd wave sometimes, but none of use knew who she actually was. Or if her name was even Mary.

She was a common part of the backdrop for several years, then one day no one saw her walking around anymore. Word eventually got around that she had passed away, and I recall being sad about that. Not because I knew her, but because a long standing (I thought at the time anyway) thread that was woven in with many others that all tied the years together was gone.

I feel similarly about the passing of QEII. I didn't know her, but for my entire life she was the Queen of England, and now that's changed.

Actor and comedian Robbie Coltrane has died at the age of 72. He was best known for his roles as Hagrid in all 8 of the Harry Potter films and as the Psychologist Fitz in the crime series Cracker.

Yes just read about this...

I also liked him in the Bond movies.

I didn't catch the cause of death but I do recall him being ill for quite some time...?

I first saw him on The Young Ones and then later he had a guest role in Black Adder III and a major supporting role in the Black Adder Christmas Special. Loved his warmth in his performances.

We sadly lost Jet Black today (at 84). Original drummer with The Stranglers he retired in 2015 due to ill health, so not entirely a surprise, but sad nonetheless.

Terry Hall of the Specials and Fun Boy Three has died at the age of 63 following a short illness. An icon from my youth, I'm not sure how well known he is outside the UK.

I thought this was a fair summary of those musicians we lost in 2022. This guy covers rock, prog and jazz/fusion genres but mentions a few others outside those spheres.

Just heard that Jeff Beck joined the great gig in the sky. He was 78 years old, not a bad run, but he seemed in top shape but then got meningitis. Truth is one of my all-time favorite albums - RIP.

Huge loss to the guitar/music world. Such an amazingly talented and skilled guitarist. Was always better than Clapton and Page.

Beck was an amazing guy. He didn't court the spotlight as much as others did, so he was more of a guitarist's guitar player.
